Damn faithful tweak of the level to this, Lars. I wasn't sure how the Sonic levels were going to turn out - after all, the gameplay is based heavily on Mario - but you pulled it off about as well as I imagine is possible. Love that you even included the different futures; that's dedication.
The boss is where the difference in Mario and Sonic gameplay takes its toll, though. You've done your best to compensate, but that boss falls apart in Mario gameplay. Too slow and deliberate for it to work.
You know, this is one level I keep coming back to at every announcement of new stuff. I don't know why, maybe the time travel gimmick gets to me. But there's always one question I have watching this video. Who in their right mind thought that boss was a good idea? No attacks, no real threat except maybe hitting spikes, completely boring to fight, and there's never any change to the machine. ... Oh, and it took the vid maker almost FIVE MINUTES to beat this one boss. Pure tedium at its worst.
@legoman727@legoman727 We have a group of people on the forum specifically for finding problems with the stages, as well as the feedback from Youtube, and you are the only one that seems to have a problem with these bosses.
So you guys are finally starting on Sonics world eh? Pretty cool I was wondering how it was going to turn out. I guess it will be less about ramps an loops an more about bumpers an spikes for better compatibility with other characters. Also nice Robotnick has his own boss theme. Though I think there are better boss music remix's of his out there.
@AuraLancer We've resized nearly every other Sonic thing so maybe that's why it doesn't look right. I'm not worried so long as the stage itself isn't Sonic sized.
@Simmionla This is Mushroom Kingdom Fusion, platformer extraordinaire. Come on in you're bound to find something you like. Stay tuned for the release of beta v.5. Enjoy the popcorn.
(cont'd) built off of 32x32 tiles, the size of Sonic when he's in a ball. Yes, internally, the levels ARE built from 16x16 "blocks", but only for internal purposes - all gameplay objects work on a 32x32 scale.
So yes, to reiterate, Sonic objects should really be shrunk to half size to fit the Mario gameplay better.
Oh heck yes some Sonic stages. Booya I can't wait for that!!! Finally we get to see Sonic in his environment. Which I also got to wonder why there's not many Sonic videos. Hmm.
It's always bugs me how everything in World 7 is much bigger than the player character. I know the sprites are taken directly from the genesis games, but would it hurt to do just a little resizing?
@Nimbi64 well yes, it does seem wierd that mario is running around a wierd looking version of SMB3's giant land, but it is the fun of the fusion + think about what all these characters go through, mario has to face a giant turtle that sometimes gets gianter and shoots fire most of the time and don't forget mouser, a mouse his size, so I think the big stuff works perfectly + it looks cool
@Nimbi64 resizing anything would cause a lot of quality loss without properly editing every single resized sprite or tile, which is actually hard to do if you don't want it to look all crappy and it implies a lot of work for large levels like this, not worth all the effort needed if you ask me, besides I think the scale looks fine
Trying to resize the tiles or objects would just make them more difficult to work with. Levels in MKF are composed of 16x16 tiles, the same as a majority of classic games, including the Sonic games. Trying to reduce it to an odd size like 12x12 would cause nothing but problems.
Also, most of the enemies HAVE been resized. I've resized most of the Sonic enemies in the game personally, with only a few exceptions.
@LarsLuron The "past" tiles actually look really good in this perspective.
Personally, my main problem is with the "present" tiles, and even moreso with the starposts (and timeposts), pinball flippers and bumpers, which should all be reduced to half size. Yes, that would mean reworking level layouts, but it'd work out for the best.
Mario games are built off of 16x16 tiles - small Mario and ducking large Mario is 16x16. However, Sonic games are (cont'd)
amazing....cool.....awsome..... it's just what we needed, more sonic levels, if you are going to showcase a sonic level again before the release, use wario, that would be funny
Very Neat! Awesome!!!!! Although much like the guy before me will the sonic characters run up slopes or will all the characters be able to do that? Either way top notch work on Collision Chaos!
The additions to the boss is presumably why you're not forcing the characters to slide all over the place as it was in Sonic CD (because that added step would utterly piss people off)?
that level was amazing. extremely awesome level design. the only thing i didn't like was the robotnik music... had an obvious loop point, and just didn't sound very good in my opinion. otherwise, great level.
This is awesome! Love it!

Sonic Stages look too big for the characters, I guess there's no way to scale them down?
