  • Titli, I am convinced that all it's really going to take for me is to find the right book. I've been collecting diet books for years. I've got stacks of them. Now what I need to do is to just gather them up and put them in a nice big pack, slip on the pack and go out for a brisk walk. Yes, diet books are wonderful for dropping the pounds (sterling). :)

  • @TitliNihaan Well, watermelon and banana.. But the time aint really for the watermelons right now :/ can barely find them anywhere.. and i heard that bananas is bad for a diet cause they are very fat :/

  • @smukkepiien Compared to apples, bananas have about twice the amount of carbohydrates. Compared to a second meal... a banana contains a lot fewer carbs and fat!

  • Thanks for this, Titli. I have friends who keep trying variations on Atkins, X weeks on protein, then X weeks on carbs... Cabbage soup (windy) or other fads. I'm just reducing portion size, and trying to cook without adding fat where possible, and it seems to be working!

    A simple rule for fat-loss exercise I've discovered is to do enough to work up a sweat, but you shouldn't get out of breath, for a minimum of 30 minutes. I got that from 'Weight loss for dummies' - available at the library!

  • @LowFlyingTortilla Snack on biscuits and chocolate bars at every opportunity, eat three large fat-soaked meals every day with large helpings of sweet puddings, and sit in your chair all day watching re-runs of Judge Judy. Yep, that ought to do it....

    - 'avoid afternoon tea, supper and stop snacking between meals' - this isn't true. It is actually important to snack between meals becuase it keeps your body working and avoids hunger cravings. It also helps your metabolism and keeps you fuller for longer :)

    and you should allow yourself to indulge once in a while or you will crave it and eventually most likely have a sort of binge-like behaviour.

    Hope this helped clarify a few things :)

  • do if they want to lose weight is to find out how much calories they (the individual) need everyday to be healthy. If someone is overweight it is becuase their eating over this number, but eating the right amount of food they will lose weight naturally. This ensures that weightloss isn't temporary. You should aim to make a lifestyle change, not simply 'go on a diet' becuase when you actually do lose the weight you won't know what to do and will most likley just return to old

  • Actually, it's been proven that 7 small meals per day boost your metablism, and help you lose weight faster, and one big meal per day causes cravings, reduces your metablism, and statistically, you're less likely to commit to your diet. Appart from that, the rest is accurate.

    I am actually on my way of gaining weight while going everyday to the fitness center :P And I'm recommended to eat LOTS of protein and to snack, snack and snack all day long! Of course, healthy snacks. No artificial cookies or cakes, but nuts, radish, fruit, tuna, bla, bla, bla :P

  • The trouble is everyone knows how to lose weight but most people don't like to put forth the effort. All the details about whole foods, ect are just ways people avert their focus from what they really need to do, eat less, better quality, and move.

  • this video was excellent Titli...I see some people are bringing up some of the finer points regarding whole foods vs. processed foods/glycemic index, macronutrient ratios, etc. but this is a great video explaining the fundamental concepts. Maybe you can do a part 2 once you see all the main questions coming in.... and I forgot to mention that I really like the idea of your busy garden videos & look forward to more of those

  • Maybe you want to rephrase the "reducing fuel" part. It can give people the impression that if they don't eat they will reach their goal faster. Stick to replacing fatty and sugary foods with healthy foods. Like eating a slice of bread and a massive bowl of salad will keep you from being hungry all day and it still contains a lot less calories than burgers and fries. I know you also said that in your video, but I thought I should point it out again.

  • The best thing that I find with topics such as losing weight on the diet is to buy more healthy things so that the temptation is not even there, and through cooking your own meals from scratch you have full control of what goes in your own body, and it does not have to be hard soup just needs the wizzy toy XD for example. By giving yourself total control on the bat of purchase and DO NOT starve yourself since that will increase your cravings . Also substituting vegetable oil with olive oil helps

  • My boyfriend lost a lot of weight over the time of one year by eating two apples in the evening instead of dinner and on weekends he ate a lot of salad. Walking and taking the stairs instead of the elevator helped too.

  • if you only eat less food it also means you are getting less nutrients (vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, enzymes, etc) so basically you will shed fat due to lack of calories BUT your organs will also wither away due to lack of many nutrients. try best to eat more nutrition dense foods. exercise is essential so that you don't have to starve yourself into malnutrition

  • @werewasyo True, if you have already been eating just the amount of food to give you the nutrients that you need. Note, though, that most people who are overweight overeat, and the amounts of food we're talking about contains enough nutrients for tree or four people. Surely, a bigger body need more energy, but the amount of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants in lesser portions will be more than enough to keep you healthy unless you start undereating markedly.

  • great video titli! please follow up with some healthy portion controlled meals/snacks. I saw a great healthy fish pie recipe by Phil Vickery this morning, he thickened the milk liquor with a touch of cornflour instead of using a roux, and combined the mashed potatoes with mashed root veg - your recipes are such a hit because they are do-able, lets have some healthy low fat ones for the whole family. :)

  • I don't agree with some of the advice your giving here Titli. Eating less food, is not the direct way to weight loss. Actually a lot of people aren't eating enough food. Allthough cutting the amount of food your eating, can be a good idea, you should replace two big meals with four (or more) smaller meals. High protein diets with loots of vegetables and full grain products are a good way forward. Snacking can be vital on your way to weight loss, but replace sugar and fat, with healthy choices

  • The only change I'd make to this is that it's ok to snack between meals, as long as it's not the grub in the picture, maybe fresh produce. In fact eating less fuel more often, five or six times a day, will make you less hungry and reduce the urge to consume a lot at the main meals.

    I wouldn't suggest replacing a main meal with only fruit or veg, unless it's dinner, always the smallest meal of the day, and early in the evening, so there's less to digest during sleep.

    Also, prefer olive oil to butter, or none if it can taste ok, remove sugar, sometimes half skimmed milk is sweet naturally (I'm used to drinking any hot drink with no sugar now and it feels like there is sugar in it)

  • I have yet to combine both exercise and dieting together but I've lost 40lbs through diet alone so far. I eat 5 small meals daily and losing 1 and a half pound ever week. So far so good, really hope to reach my first goal by October 2012! Wish me luck!
