  • prince of sri lankan cricket

  • He really was a brilliant player, Sri Lanka miss him badly, no other Sri Lankan cricketer can & will replace him!

  • Classic commentary from Benaud and Greig

  • that first shot was incredible. most players couldn't even hit a 4 with a shot like that.

  • The first shot is breathtaking. The second one just made my jaw drop. Brilliant stroke-play. Quite possibly two of the most authoritative and majestic shots I've ever seen.

  • Best naturally gifted batsman Sri Lanka has ever produced!! One in our lifetime...

  • he should be sri lanka's new batting coach, not marvan who cant stop predicatable sri lankan batting collapse

  • awesome sri lankan cricketer,...

  • Brett Lee dislikes this :D

  • @Sonique100 he liked it actually

  • aravinda disilva was tiger of asia.....great plyer.

  • Awesome player...

  • ARVINDA was match Winner

  • I'm an Indian fan but I love Sri Lankan cricket. Aravind was one of my favourite players partially because my name is Aravind but mainly because he was such a great striker of the ball.

  • @731warrior

    aravind, he is aravinda :D

  • still srilanka has no batsman compare to aravinda

  • @munnarko I have my doubts if world cricket can ever find a batsman to rival Aravinda's pure class. Never mind just Sri Lanka.

He did not have the mental discipline, much like Mark Waugh and Carl Hooper - two more languid, delightful stroke-makers. Players like those cannot be manufactured by any coaching manual or method. They are simply, once in a generation.

  • I think this was his last match. Some moron commentator/presenter asked him if those sixes were meant to prove a point. Aravinda said he doesn't have to prove anything anymore. Truly a great batsman.

  • Aravinda De silva is Such a Wonderful Player In Cricket History & Backbone of

Sri lankan Team During 1996 Worldcup

  • I remember watching Aravinda's 66 vs India the 1996 semi finals an being in total awe. Still one of the finest batsman I have seen. He can say what he likes but neither Jayawardene nor Sangakkara are better than him.

    Sheer class!!!!!

  • That first shot is just incredible!!!

  • One of the game's legends

  • true legend at his very best!!

  • true legend at his very best!!

  • Arvinda: fast bowlers' nightmare.

  • I tell you this guy may not have colourfull averages like mahel or sanga

He himslef admitted that mahela is better than him

I strongly disagree as for me he is as good as lara and tendulka.

I remember once shohaib went about his usual fast inswinging yorker.

He simply fliked it four four. His strength is he get himself to good position very quickly and got large array of shots all round the wickets

    even here you see it

  • Not bad for a 37-year old at the time :D If the game was played when Ara was a few years younger, who knows what might have happened?

  • Simply majestic!

  • Sri lankas best batsman !! freak !!

  • absolute classs......look at the time he had to hit that six over midwicket on brett lee.....the ball was well over 89 mph....real quick hands and great timing.....

  • great batting but who won the match

  • i am from India De silva was one of the great batsman sri lanka produced. One thing i like is he always performs good against PAKISTAN.

He's as good as SACHIN no doubt what was his avergae i think 42.

  • Superb Timing.. He can salvage any bowler.. These two sixes are classic. Hitting Sixes against Brett lee with ease is simply awesome..Other than that, playing such shots on the verge of his retirement is really awesome... Truely a legend.. Hats off !!! Wonder whether Tendulkar has such timings..

  • genuinely, first shot is one of the great cricketing moments of all time.

fastest bowler on earth, steaming in vs a legend trying to salvage some pride in a lost cause, and on the verge of retirement.

the flick over square leg for six is just breath-taking, it takes a whole new level of skill to get an 87mph full ball for six over square leg.

the second shot is just pure brutality.

  • Great Batsmen

as good as Lara and Sachin.

won more matches with a poor team

Superb Batsmen and made runs v Great Bowling

wasim waqar saqlain mushtaq mcgrath warne ambrose walsh donald pollock kumbli srinath gough cairns and the list goes on........

  • it was a ripper

  • What a wonderfully gifted batsman!! That six over square leg was the most outrageous stroke ever!!

  • chucker.....

  • HA HA HA TAKE THAT LEEEE!!! :D:D MaDmAX!!!

  • "NO BALL"

FREE HIT FREE HIT FREE HIT :D

    ah good ol days

  • Madmax at his best!!!

  • Aravinda always been one of my favourites......he is a class above players like sachin or even lara when it comes to the crunch time........he can take on the best of bowlers and even wasim akram had trouble bowling at him when wasim had enough success agains sachin and lara......

A true legend and a real class act......

  • jst some slog shots...as if a tail ender s battin

  • @akskshri Great Batsman ...Great Shots. No other player can play like this

  • @akskshri shows how little you know about cricket when you say that aravinda de silva bats like a tail ender..

  • Aravinda is master bastman

  • when richie benoud says "its one of the great shots you will ever see..."

    wow

  • There was another 6 off Lee by Silva in this match. I am sure of it. He hits it over square leg i think

  • I'll be honest: these 2 shots weren't that great! Da Silva was one of the most devastating batsmen in cricket history but neither of these 2 shots displayed good technique (which Da Silva def has); I mean there was no footwork and he looked like he was just swiping powerfully and luckily getting bat on it...so I guess what I'm saying is: find some better clips of his genuine batting because this did not impress!

  • @HeRsHeYsKiSsz I watched this match and It was a genuine fight back by Aravinda. This is just two "great" shot he played during his brilliant 92 runs. As I remember he played another couple of boundaries against Lee and I'm sure only a true legend like Aravinda can give a true fight back like this.

  • @HeRsHeYsKiSsz OK now we are cumming to the funniest part . This person talking about his foot movement. Ha... ha ...ha Richie Benaud ,one of the highly regarded

commentator says "That's one of the greatest shots you will ever see" . So we don't have anything to talk I guess .when you comment, don't be hypocrite. Learn to admire great things.

  • @JNMattify

i admire your rapid response to this guys comment

but wat he is saying is not wrong

he was a fine player but neither of these shots were as good as he played

  • @dhruvrai14 JN was absolutely right. Those are two greatest shots I have ever seen. I have never seen any other batsmen play such positively against worlds fastest bowler. Wow... dhruvrai14 are you really 16? I wonder why you tube allows such infants to post negative comments and spoil great posts.

  • @ademgrand

by the way do u think this is the best

seems u dont watch this game too much

  • @ademgrand

and for your kind info neither he is considered the greatest player nor brett lee is the fastest bowler

  • @dhruvrai14

Man..I watch cricket more than you. He may not be the greatest player. However, he is the most stylish and fearless player . He is one of a handful of players who can perform at their peak under great pressure. On the other hand, it was not all about Lee's face. I watched this whole 2003 world cup.Lee was very accurate and was at his peak. So it was very difficult to hit against him. When he started to bowl Aravinda his figures were 8 1 26 3. However, he ended up as 10 1 52 3.

  • @ademgrand

listen bro i didnt mean to be rude or start a fight

maybe u watch hell of a cricket matches but i am too a great cricket fan

so like any other experts our opinion would not be same

    cheers

  • @HeRsHeYsKiSsz bro u must b jokinggg......looks like u aint played much cricket......when bowlers bowling at 90 mph and you batting with the tail 7 wkts down and chasing 300 odd runs with less over to go you gota take chances and hit the ball......tendulkar would have done the same thing....mind you aravinda comes 2 bat late down the order in that match compared 2 sachin.....

the guys bowlin at 90 mph plus n aravinda hits him over square leg......even tendulkar wont hav that much time...

  • @HeRsHeYsKiSsz I think I'll take Richie Benaud's words ("that is one of the grreatest shots you will ever see") over yours any day ...

  • WOW....
