I actually heard this on an oldies station. In this era, you would hear pop standards, r&b songs, instrumentals and novelty tunes within the same hour. It was probably a great era. I'd like to think so. As far as this single, it made Top 20, and made fun of such artists as the Platters, Kingston Trio, Dion and the Belmonts, the Four Freshman and the Fleetwoods. They're lampooning of the Hollywood Arglyes was unnecessary, however, since that group was pretty much a one-hit wonder.
Thank you SOOO MUCH! I have been searching for these classics for so long to share with my kids (who are now grown and were thinking I was making up the stories!) Thank God for modern technology that allows us to share the memories, Thank God for the people that post these classics so that we can share, and thank God for the talented artists who created such indelible memories.
This clip showed how talented these guys were....they sounded very much like the groups they were impersonating. One of the most underrated groups from their day....they were oustanding.
This was a good novelty song that was a spoof on many of the popular groups of that era. They made a few of them over the years. The Four Preps had a few big hits--26 miles,Big Man, Dreamy Eyes but they were more recognizes as popular circuit entertainers for night clubs, Vegas Casinos and Cruises. They were enjoyable to watch. Interesting fact that the lead singer Bruce Belland was one of the regular characters on the Ozzie&Harriet Show. Ron--Highway Stars Magazine.
This is so much better than I remembered it - the vocals and parody's are excellent. I like the Kingston Trio takeoff - esp. the coughing. LoL And apparently Dion di Mucci and the Belmonts were not amused at the accusations of hubcap larceny and threatened to sue...so the story goes. Great upload - thnx.
One of the best albums I spent my allowance on. I played "The Four Preps - On Campus" LP all the time. Great stuff. Some of the postings show the original group members on the LP covers - this one maybe the "new" Preps without a guy called Dan Clark? Can't be sure. Anyway they all sound great!!!! Thanks for the memory. ANDY - Singapore
This was the first ever album that I bought - and I still have it. I remember skipping school with a friend to play it for him - what an undisciplined lot we were.
Just on 50 years and I still love it - while thye make a lot of fun, they could sing - if you don't believe me try and find 'He's gone away'
These were recorded live for Four Preps concert albums which are endless delights. EXECELLENT mimicry. "More Money For You And Me" reached #17 in 1961; "The Big Draft" #61 in 1962. What a combination -- incredible ocal skills and a repertoire blending moving songs and those that show off their impish snese of humor.

This was how the Barron Knights got their inspiration for Call Up The Groups.

Best impression of Platters lead singer ever, far better than all the ones who sung lead after Tony left.
"why must I be a teenager in jail/" great line.
The first parody was a hit as 'More Money For You and Me" the second parody hit as the "Big Draft
