Oooh my god this is so beautiful. I have listened to this song many times, different interpretations... and yours ... well Im mesmerized, hypnotized. I started to learn classical guitar 2 years ago and I'm starting to see some progress ;) I would love to start learning this song. Do you have the music sheet? could you send it to me ? Good luck with everything !
I gave your performance a "like" for its uniqueness. Playing almost the entire piece over the f hole is very pleasing by contrast to other renditions, but by the same token it's somewhat overdone. I think a combination of several right-hand positions would have been better, but that's certainly a matter of taste. Overall, well done!
Can we please have more of this talent of yours. It's lovely just to hear how you play the guitar.I bet you will have a huge audience here in YT & FB..
Thanks so much for your comments. I can no longer play classical guitar properly due to arthritis in my hands. However, I have gone back to playing electric guitar (after a break of 25 years!) which is much easier on the fingers and thumbs. Perhaps I'll upload something one day. Given the vast difference in style and sound, I don't suppose those who like my classical guitar playing will enjoy the electric guitar stuff. But you never know...
@eddieb8 not true i come from electric guitar background and am now studying classical and i love both especially when classical gets played with some rock influence ect.. they actually are both really amazing ^_^
Electronic sheet music of Fur Elise moving in realtime across the computer screen synchronized to an audio recording can be viewed on the virtuosoism channel.
Darn you for taking a bland piece and injecting some much needed feeling into it....apparently that's what so many of the "strict classicalists" below are saying is bad about your playing. Classical was written to be straightforward and what we could call today as just "boring" and adding feeling to it is definitely important today.
@vaibanez17 What? You need to get your musical periods sorted out. Phrasing was just as important then as it is today. Stylistically, this is a *romantic* piece with tiny hints of classicism but fundamentally, this is well into the romantic style. Baroque is more 'straight forward' but it was not played robotically. Just because you use excessive rubato doesn't make you a good musician, you need to be aware of stylistic requirements and play accordingly.
@XianXiuHong Huh? I was using sarcasm about the fact that lots of people hated this guy's playing because it wasn't "uptight" and "boring" straightforward b/s. The feeling he puts into it rules and makes it way better period. I was mocking the idiots below who think music can never be updated. Classical guitar is way stuck in the past too much.
@vaggelisvass1977 ofcourse everyone has their own interpretation. that goes without saying. but some are crap to listen to and u just feel like smashing their instrument over their heads. and some are good.
music gives us the ability to express ourselves like any form of art/behaviour. To be critical of someone's interpretation shows a lack of understanding of the fundamentals of music itself and indeed of life, why others differ to ourselves. Don't be so anal as to pick out the odd note here, the timing or perhaps the arrangement because it does not sound the same as heard before. Just admire the fact that someone has bothered to actually share with you an extension of their own humanity.
I admired this song for years before I even learned the name of it. I like the slow tempo which I think gives it a tenderness that is very touching. Thank you for posting this and making my day a bit more lovely!
hey man dont listen to these idiots on here. i have been playing guitar now for about 10 years and from one musician to another this is absolutely beautiful. all these people saying negative things on here could only hope to play like this. keep it up.
i believe that your self came out in the music, and that's what's important. Yes it is one of the finest works ever written from a legendary composer but if we all played the song the same then we would all be the same, and not one of us would ever be as Beethoven was. Our own unique character comes out when we feel, and we feel the most when we play our music. Play it as you will, I loved it. Excellent work and keep it up my friend. by listening, i feel that i know how you felt on that stage
Thanks for your comments. Yes, I reckon you do know how I felt on that stage when I played the piece. However others experience it, including now on YouTube, it was a magical few minutes for me. Huge risk playing one of the best known classical piano pieces ever composed in such a different way, but hey, I took it! It's very pleasing to come across another person who understands what it was I went through. Cheers.
@eddieb8 the mark of a great composer is the malleability of his work... and by that standard you managed to pick one of the best compositions. By the way I wish I had your lute-like right hand tech.
um this guy is great, i love the flow and melody and his presentation is flawless and the sound combinations are just perfection to my ears, very few videos can get the peons approval, this is one. no offense but Malmsteen is way better lmao...jking i know different style lol!

not that good honestly. He finished well, but the begining was horrible. The whole thing's timing and rythem was off. Plus, he played an EXTREMELY easy version. No offense, but i've been playing this song for two days now and am already better at it than he is. Why is he a professional?
I bet your lame enough to rip the sound from this video and play it on loudspeaker and pretend to play the guitar and claim yours is better, LAME-O Noob!
I thought this was beautifully done with fine feeling and musicality.
One of the unfortunate side effects of modern recording technology is that we can hear so many recordings from outstanding genius players that we sometime lose our appreciation for the merely excellent players. Let's not go down that route and be hyper-critical of what is really a fine recording.
This performance is much more enjoyable when you listen to it with your eyes closed. I think Mr. Eddie Blatt has influenced the piece with much of his own heart and feelings and it stands out beautifully when you close your eyes and listen to his performance.
Does anybody know where I can download tabs for THAT arrangement? There are so many tabs on the internet for the song, but i could'nt find some for this arrangement
Worth seeing live, but definitely a strange interpretation. 35 years doesn't mean anything when attributing it to the piece. Its how he plays it, don't focus on the number of years.
Comments to the way I played this piece vary from exceptionally good to exceptionally bad. There are valid points to both sides and I acknowledge the validity of the criticisms. I admit to technical and interpretive shortcomings that were pointed out, but I am also delighted that some enjoyed the performance. It's always challenging to try something very different. Thanks to all.
@eddieb8 i dont know if u got a bad score or something, but ur playing isnt fluid and smooth. And ur bass notes don't linger at all. U lift up your fingers too quickly, therefore creating awkward silences between the notes.
READ:: Eddie Blatt has been playing guitar for over 35 years. Of the many styles he has played, classical and flamenco guitar are now his favourites. He plays both solo and in groups such as Ionnah. ,,....you really think you are better? everybody who says he's not good should fuck off..!
are you guys retarded?did beethoven actually say it had to be played a certain way? no. you are allowed to take liberties in the piece itself as long as you get the main idea of the actual piece. Instead of just playing like you guys are saying he should be he's playing a version of it that is full of passion, rather than just playing it just to get it over with, which, by reading some of everyones comments, is what everyone else would rather have preformed. at least some ppl understand that...
I hate how he closes his eyes to "feel the music." I understand why he does this but I don't accept the fact that in many parts he darts his head from pleasant to back to the guitar to pleasant again. Seriously, if you don't have the chords/finger placements memorized so that you can play the song without looking (or at least for a good period of time), don't do it, it'll risk your performance. Just because they're professionals doesn't mean they can skip out on what they teach the amateurs.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Oh yeah, and i suppose your a great player yourself are you? as good as this guy are you? what, no? i thought as much, maybe you should try doing what he is doing before posting such a narrow minded pile of retardedness and then maybe you would have a point, my point being, FUCK OFF ! he can play however the hell he wants, and you cant be that much of a musician (i doubt you even play tbh) if the first thing you think of is something as pointless as that.
Decent, you suck at picking with your thumb. Incredibly not smooth at all with your thumb. Way to choppy. get a fucking finger pick for your thumb or something dude. The bass and treble is like off beat and not smooth. Decent though.
He wasn't trying to keep it "in beat", that was his interpretation for the song. I don't think you know what you're talking about at all. Listen to more songs and you'll see that not everything has to be perfectly in beat for it to be a good performance/interpretation- especially when it comes to transcriptions like this, it's better when the performer puts his own spin on things, since you obviously can't ever acheive a perfect transcription.
i think you can make more of it.. it just sounds.. empty. ok it´s just like the piano, but on a classical guitar i would have played.. i don´t know ,, more notes at least, more like a classical playing, if you can follow me ;)
It sounds very strange on guitar. Not bad, just very...as if it doesn't fit. This melody was written for the piano, and I don't think guitar works very well.
At the same time, he plays it well. I don't find it too slow - I like the tempo. But it was destined for the piano. Or another classical instrument (maybe a cello owuld work?).
Okay, its not exactly as I would have imagined it for the guitar, and not a perfect performance, but again, its a translation from piano to guitar, doesn't always work well, and its actually emotionally quite nice. The speed should be slower but perhaps not this slow. Thats how I envision it anyway. Certainly not gonna tell this guy he sucks, he clearly doesn't. Is there room for improvement? Certainly.
Nice work.... i enjoyed it very much.... and yes it definitely can't be compared to the same level as the piano...it is not easy playing this piece on the guitar
AS IF SPEED and ARTISTRY were the same, or even equal. Playing a piece means bringing your own interpretation. If you want speed and a rigid "perfection" I suggest you stick to MIDI files. In a talent show at the freshman dorms I once watched two contestants play the same piece "Mood for a Day" One played it with almost blinding speed, the other with emotion and his own interpretation. The second guy placed 1st.
speed can indeed be incorporated into artistic expression, but he obviously wasn't going for speed here. He was most likely going for a slow, moody feeling which I think fits the song quite well. Just because he isn't going fast doesn't mean the guy isn't extremely talented. For all you know, he could destroy most people in speed competitions. The artistry here is how cleanly and emotionally the song was played and expressed. Bravo, 5 stars.
ur retarded guitar isnt about speed at all this guy is probly 10 times better than that kid thats why hes he and the kids sitting at home playing pokemon
Great job! I'm learning Mr. Blatt's video (as well as tabs I found online) to learn this song myself. Please take this as a compliment. I've mastered most of it on my guitar. This is fun to play.
Wow some of these comments are terible, if you don't understand Classical then you should try to understand that first. Some of you are right he doesn't sustain enough my wife said he sounds like he's searching she knows nothing about Music.
way too much rubato...sounds likes he's off time to the normal ear. his sustain of the notes is horrible, it sucks especially for people who've never heard the song before.
any noob can sound like...off-time without sustaining the chords and notes... so not worth having an audience and cameras filming from all those angles...
Great Job! I love playing that tune on my Godin La Patrie. I play it differently (not using strict e maj, and a min chords) Im gonna try learning it in that way.
Here to clear things up i was refering to the post made by reformedman, not of this video. I only skimmed through this video it was alright way better than I could do...
Nice attempt, needs a bit of work though. You might want to try an arrangement that begins on the 12th. I play the fuller range, it makes it sound more diversified and fuller and not so monotonous on the same fret area.
I can see where the guy is coming from that posted this. I mean i checked his channel he has tons of videos of him playing in front of audiences all around the world and should have the knowledge to back up his post, well played. (All the sarcasm in the world put into this).
Its good,thanks for sharing :-)

Instead of just playing like you guys are saying he should be he's playing a version of it that is full of passion, rather than just playing it just to get it over with, which, by reading some of everyones comments, is what everyone else would rather have preformed. at least some ppl understand that...

i agree, stupid ranging tempos, and just his expressions haha

Eddie can't play in time.
The rhythm is crutial.
His time distortions are very
distorted. No regard for the composer.
His unevenness is due to lack of technique not feeling. The music is not about him but about Beethoven's music.
But with maturity may come a better interpretation. At least he loves classical music.
Boldstrummer 2 years ago 3
I hate how he closes his eyes to "feel the music." I understand why he does this but I don't accept the fact that in many parts he darts his head from pleasant to back to the guitar to pleasant again. Seriously, if you don't have the chords/finger placements memorized so that you can play the song without looking (or at least for a good period of time), don't do it, it'll risk your performance. Just because they're professionals doesn't mean they can skip out on what they teach the amateurs.

Decent though.
mustardman691 2 years ago
you have absolutely no taste
13325poop 2 years ago
He wasn't trying to keep it "in beat", that was his interpretation for the song. I don't think you know what you're talking about at all. Listen to more songs and you'll see that not everything has to be perfectly in beat for it to be a good performance/interpretation- especially when it comes to transcriptions like this, it's better when the performer puts his own spin on things, since you obviously can't ever acheive a perfect transcription.
carrmig 2 years ago 3
i think you can make more of it.. it just sounds.. empty. ok it´s just like the piano, but on a classical guitar i would have played.. i don´t know ,, more notes at least, more like a classical playing, if you can follow me ;)
0ieke0 2 years ago 3
It sounds very strange on guitar. Not bad, just very...as if it doesn't fit. This melody was written for the piano, and I don't think guitar works very well.
At the same time, he plays it well. I don't find it too slow - I like the tempo. But it was destined for the piano. Or another classical instrument (maybe a cello owuld work?).
some1tookmynick 2 years ago
Okay, its not exactly as I would have imagined it for the guitar, and not a perfect performance, but again, its a translation from piano to guitar, doesn't always work well, and its actually emotionally quite nice. The speed should be slower but perhaps not this slow. Thats how I envision it anyway. Certainly not gonna tell this guy he sucks, he clearly doesn't. Is there room for improvement? Certainly.

Nice work.... i enjoyed it very much.... and yes it definitely can't be compared to the same level as the piano...it is not easy playing this piece on the guitar

i know a 12 yr. old kid who can play this whole song much better than this guy can. This guy is playing it way too slow
Dimethyltryptamine2 2 years ago
AS IF SPEED and ARTISTRY were the same, or even equal. Playing a piece means bringing your own interpretation. If you want speed and a rigid "perfection" I suggest you stick to MIDI files. In a talent show at the freshman dorms I once watched two contestants play the same piece "Mood for a Day" One played it with almost blinding speed, the other with emotion and his own interpretation. The second guy placed 1st.
AdvocatusDiaboli83 2 years ago 10
speed can indeed be incorporated into artistic expression, but he obviously wasn't going for speed here.

That's about the most ignorant thing I've seen in a comments list, are you aware of a word "interpretation"?

way too much rubato...sounds likes he's off time to the normal ear. his sustain of the notes is horrible, it sucks especially for people who've never heard the song before.
any noob can sound like...off-time without sustaining the chords and notes... so not worth having an audience and cameras filming from all those angles...

Here to clear things up i was refering to the post made by reformedman, not of this video. I only skimmed through this video it was alright way better than I could do...
MasterBadong42 3 years ago
Nice attempt, needs a bit of work though. You might want to try an arrangement that begins on the 12th. I play the fuller range, it makes it sound more diversified and fuller and not so monotonous on the same fret area.
Very nice attempt nonetheless.
reformedman 3 years ago
I can see where the guy is coming from that posted this. I mean i checked his channel he has tons of videos of him playing in front of audiences all around the world and should have the knowledge to back up his post, well played. (All the sarcasm in the world put into this).
