I almost wanted to cry listening to this. That's my favorite song in the whole game, and the piano version brings it to a whole new level. THANK YOU.<3
The name Bran Bal will forever remind me of bran flakes...
You played beautifully, good job :D This was one of my favourite pieces from FF9 :DD Somehow, the piano collections version reminds me of dinner music, though...in a good way!
This song is one of my favorite from the soundtrack.
However, no offense intended, alot of this doesn't sound 'right' to me, for example just as i am typing this bit it's @ 2:55. There seems to be some chords added between each bar which don't belong, is it just another arrangement?
I played the Piano Collections version, not the OST version. When the "theme" was given again, there's, indeed, a medium voice added. You should take a look to the sheet music, it's a very strange one ;)
Of course! Silly of me... I should have realized. I even have the original piano collections, not listened in a long time however. If i remember right quite alot of the arrangements are very strange on them!
I just ripped all the piano collections cd's from ff7 to ffx-2 to my pc again :]
I think you're right, FF8 definitely has some of the best piano and especially orchestral work on the spin-off soundtracks. Fisherman's Horizon, Ami (doh!), The Oath, Silence and Motion, The Successor (double doh!) all excellent choices for piano.
I've been trying to learn this piece for about two months now. I'm a self-taught pianist so learning a piece takes me a while.
On the final three measures of the first page. When it goes B G D F# D A F# G Bb A B C C# D, and it's in 3/4 time...oh geez I REALLY need help with that part. Cause, it might just be, but it doesn't sound right at all.
On another note, great job on the piece, it sounds great.
nice playing. i'm not a fan of the arrangement. to me it's those lovely arpeggios that really characterise the piece. the harmonic progression is brilliant aswell. this just makes it sound like a gymnopodie. you're a good pianist though
Yeh i guess. have you heared the three gymnopodies by Erik Satie? this arrangement is incredibly similar. it takes away Uematsu's originality i think. There should be a good orchestral version of this. that would be good :-)
Lol, I study them :) Gymnopédie, Gnossiennes, etc. But Uematsu can't be blame, it's Shiro Hamaguchi who made the arrangement ^^ And, even in Satie piece, there's no part like the middle in this piece. We could say "Bran Bal" is a tribute to Satie (like a piece in FF4 Piano Collection, too)
yes, i see what you mean. I lve satie's music. especially the third gymnopedie and caresse. Hamaguchi can however be praised for his brilliant orchestration of Liberi Fatali. it's awesome
Such dulcet melody. Do you have a sheet for this? :D

Yes, it's arranged by Shiro Hamaguchi ... It's best work is for FF8, I think.

I think this piece is not too hard, but I love the harmonics and the chromastism in the middle part.

Wow. Thanks a lot.
I think it's a beautiful arrangement, and I love playing the center part (from 1'35 to 2'10), with the chromatism at the left hand.
