  • the fault of this accident was the level crossing, it should have at LEAST had flashing lights

  • When I worked in California, one of the nurses told us a man tried to kill himself by walking in front of a train, and he was actually conscious when medics arrived on the scene. They brought him into ER on several gurneys.

The guy lived through getting hit by a train he walked in front of.

  • How did they get the footage of the collision? This was before CGI, and noone else was around to film the event...

  • @1RadicalOne It's mostly slick editing. Notice that in the shot where the train actually hits the truck, the truck is parked on the tracks with no one in it. I'm not sure how they got the shot right before that of the truck driving in front of the train; perhaps they green screened it or had the truck positioned at an angle were it only looked like it was in front of the train.

  • @SnowyAge

Probably was a short and unloaded.

  • If you watched this video, i hope you wont go around the gates when they're down to save a few minutes. (unless youre suicidal) But PLEASE! Don't do it on the csx river line, because i work on it, and if anything thats for sure there's nothing that stinks more when we hit a car, since if you're in the car, youre pretty much an opposum standing on the tracks when there's a train coming . To be more specific, youll be KILLED. I hit a truck before and killed the driver and the truck. i was doing 20

  • Well done portrayal! even the detail of the brakeman with his lantern...

EXCEPT: Locomotive had its horn blowing all the while, even during the collision.

  • Moral of the story... Nnnooooooo matter what, never try to beat a train!!!!!!! They are big, heavy, and can't swerve or move right or left at all. Not even life or death situations, because you too cold end up dead, along with who you are trying to save. Yes he was pissed about getting robbed, I would too ( would know). But you stop no matter what!!!

  • How much do those Locomotives weigh!

  • at 2:18 that chevy gets PWNED by that ALCO.

    ALCO=WIN

    Trcuk=PWNED!

  • That is why you should never race a train to the railroad crossing

  • in emergency, and it looks like a short empty local

  • that train could not stop that fast.

  • I would have just had a sniper rifle on my porch and as soon as the buzzer went off I'd be taking aim towards the store, and when the burglar walks out my scope would be right on him

  • How did the train conductor know the train hit someone?

They usually have no idea, b/c of how big they are compared to the size of the truck.

  • Are you crazy?????????? Going after that guy????? Why couldn't you just call the police! You don't know how dangerous it is out there.

  • he is probably is crazy but by the time the cops get there the robber would be Long time gone

  • i would have done what the owner did, but i would have stopped before the train crossed

  • My friend's a police officer. He always says "Don't go after a person unless you have security or police training."

He said that, even then, it's dangerous. But without training, he thinks you have a good chance of being seriously hurt.

  • It's an Alco! Horray for Alco Locomotives!

  • yah boy

  • It looks like an Alco C420

  • was that an SP?

  • didnt realize there...I grew up in the 1990s and we had 911 that was the first number I knew how to call then...

  • A loaded train going that speed could not possibly stop that quickly.

  • I too am a railfan and I have to say that ajaaniajaa's numbers are incorrect. Only loaded coal cars get up to 286,000lbs. An empty freight car weighs about 60,000lbs. Today's road engines like ES44AC's and SD70ACe's are about 455,000lbs. The engine in the video looks like a GP30 with Alco trucks. I may be wrong though. That wngine weighs about 245,000lbs. And lastly A train hitting a car, is like a car hitting a soda can.

  • Ouch! That's gotta hurt!

  • yes let's grab the phone book to look up the number for 911...

  • Not all areas had 911 back then. In some places you had to dial a seven-digit number.

  • The robbery could have been another episode by itself but the accident made it into this episode

  • The locomtive is an ALCO C424 almost looks like the ole GB&W

  • It's the GBW 313! An ALCO C424.

  • Simple warning, people: Don't try to outrun a train. You can't beat trains.

  • nice work captain Kirk

  • Actually, being a railfan, An EMPTY 50foot boxcar weighs roughly 65,000 pounds or 33 tons (approx)....A loaded one weighs about 286,000 pounds or 133 tons (approx). That pickup weighs no more than 5,000 pounds. This train obviously has more than one boxcar, not to mention a locomotive (train engine that pulls the train cars) that weighs about 268,000 pounds....its obviously heavy and like they say "A TRAIN HITTING A CAR IS LIKE A BICYCLE HITTING AN EMPTY SODA CAN"

  • Why cant trains stop faster?

  • The heavier something is, the longer it takes it to stop because it has more momentum.

  • a frieght train rolling at 50 miles an hour takes aprox. 1 mile to come to a complet stop

  • Boy u sure are smart

  • @pizzalover85 It takes an average freight train one mile to stop. If there's something in the way, it's going to get hit.

  • @pizzalover85

Extreme Weight. And the weight pushed the train forward. Try spinning around with 30 pound weights, and trying to stop on a dime. (Spin around really fast with your arms spread witht the weights)...

  • @pizzalover85 because they are so heavy that the mass keeps forcing the train forward

  • @pizzalover85 its simple you have about 500,000 tons moving at a advrage speed of 50 mi/per hr, it takes the train about a mile to stop...the one in the vid looked like it was only going thirty so it still didnt have time to stop and it was night so the engineer can only see as far as the headlights will go....

  • More like a 1-ton full size truck running over an empty soda can.

  • a gate could of easily prevented this

  • so could have yielding right of way.

  • yes, but think about this, but no offence:

When a car at high speeds approaches a gate, the gate would be shattered like splinters. But then again, the gates would already be flashing, and he would of stopped, so I am biased tarwards this statement

  • I doubt it...that guy prolly would have just driven thru the gate like so many others do.

  • in some cases yes, but in this case he knew it was there and said he thought he could beat it. so had there been gates, he prally wouldve gone around them. but you dont know, but i agree all crossings should have gates.

  • In some rural parts of the country, there are A LOT of backroads and various other roads where railways run through them, and there are mostly private and rural residences in those areas, and its hard and costly to enforce gates and flashing lights in those rural areas.

The only thing the train engineers can hope is that any person who is driving in the area of the crossing will hear the train horn and the spotlight, and stop in time before the heavy steel train smashes into them.

  • Gates are made of aluminum and a car will go right through them if the driver is determined.

  • If the guy is worried about thieves getting away with burglary, he should have also installed security cameras at the bait shop.

  • Even an 18 wheeler does not stand a chance against a freight train, and neither does a bus. And as far as I know, even a 60 ton M-60 army tank likely would not stand much of a chance against a freight train.

  • dont over exaderate

  • Which makes you wonder why someone in a mid sized van or sports car would attempt to beat one.

  • Exactly.

  • The guy is a total psychopath to try to beat a freight train!!! He really should have stopped and called the police to investigate the burglary when he saw that train! It does not matter what any situation is, you never, ever try to race or beat a train; neither freight nor passenger, to any railroad crossing! Because even if you tie, you still lose. A freight train weighs thousands of tons and can take up to a mile and a half to stop and will crush your car like a cardboard box!

  • Your words are correct.

And also I think you should have added this: No matter what you see in the movies that hollywood makes where a car beats a train, in real life, you will never beat the train, because the train will always win.

  • Do you have the snowmbill vido

  • On tape, but not on youtube.

  • CAN YOU POST THE SNOWMBILL ONE

  • that engine looks like an Alco,or it could be a GE.

  • Tragic Stories

  • Dumb cock suckers...STOP! how hard is that? No, we don't go into emergency when we see something on the tracks. Chances are we wouldn't stop in time anyhow...and they usually move before we hit. BUT there's a good chance we'll derail when we dump the air. So we hit, THEN stop. It's NEVER the trains fault. Remember that people

  • you'd be suprised how many people that get hit assume the train can stop as fast as a car. In some cases the engineer isnt even trying to stop, hes just slowing down a little. Trying to stop a long train abruptly can cause a lot more damage than hitting someone's car.

  • 7:50.

    basics of driving rule #96.

turn on the headlights when its dark outside.

  • LOOK LISTEN DON'T BE RETARDED LIVE

  • was that the shat? O_o

  • a second look at Jesus is Lord or is Satan your father.

  • How did Ron know Bruce and Ron the paramedics?

  • I think of some relation (I dono family or wat)...but somehow;)

  • Amazed the guy lived.

  • moral of the story: racing or fighting a train, either way you will lose

  • i felt bad for the guy but i think risking your life trying to catch a burglar is a bit dense

  • So far every episode from this series has been civilian error... No railroad was at fault. Only the incompetent people. Just bless the hearts of the train crews that had to deal with this ignorance..

  • One exception- In the runaway boxcars episode the railroad was definitely at fault. All the victims did is not stop at a crossing where the lights and gates weren't in operation, which most people don't.

A few do though, including myself, and with me it's a result of seeing that segment.

  • Which episode was next and do you have it uploaded?

  • "Sinking Snowmobie", and no.

  • My god that train stopped fast... Trains don't stop that fast not even with brakes locked.

  • perhaps wreckage got caught and slowed it a bit? im not sure but its a guess.

  • No, the weight from an empty coal car is the weight of 200 personal cars like you and I drive. The engine of the train weighs in around 2,000 tons (or so a train engineer told me). Take the weight of the engines add the weight of all the cars and the load and then calculate the momentum. My guess is they stopped the train there for the sake of this being a reenactment.

  • 2000 tons x 1000 tons x cargo weight 2 me the momentum would be like a nuclear explosion

  • you add the weight then multiply by speed, you dont multiply the weights. dont get me wrong, there is a whole hell of a lot of momentum there, but nothing even close to the force created by nuclear weapons, which range from the older weapons, measured in kilotons(thousands of tonnes), to the newer weapons which reach megatons(millions of tonnes).

  • The truth is if the train didnt slam on the breaks before they collided, the impact would of most likely killed the man in the car.

  • Stunned son of a bitch. DO NOT try to confront criminals... DO NOT try to race a train at a level crossing!!

  • He tried 2 do it beacause it was a freight train, those take about 3, 4 maybe even 5 minutes 2 cross the tracks

  • how do you survive a truck vs train easy dont go on the tracks in the first place

  • Bingo...

  • we all trying to inforce saftey around trains if ppl see all the vids ablout car vss train maybe theyd stop killing themselves in train accidents

  • Getting hit by a train, battling robbers, either way he's begging to get killed!

  • That was very unsafe for the crew to jump off the train like that. And to leave the train unatended.

  • the brakes were engaged the train wouldve been fine but what about the pickup whats more important delivering the cargo or saving the guys life

  • Onalaska Wisconsin is a good town. North of LaCrosse WI.

  • good looking and good sounding train . do u now wat type of diesel engine ran that train

  • I know it was an older GE engine, but I'm not sure what specific designation it is. Also the actual engine may have been different from the one in the reenactment.

  • its an alco now operatting on the Minnesota Commerical I believe and still is

  • That guy was an idiot to try to chase some guy robbing his store... I know he was angry an wanted to catch him but he should not have taken it into his own hands.. he wasn't thinking rationally and you could tell by the way he was driving... plus he should know to be careful by railroads.

  • Yes, my teacher in high school told us that those who chase robbers end up hurt or worse.

  • my cousin's husband, who's now a retired train engineer. Told me that being a train engineer was one of the most stressful jobs that I person could ever have. This happened close to home .. I was born, raised, and lived in Wisconsin for 32 yrs.

  • cool! claim to fame! Nice lookin alco too

  • Even though your shop is being robbed, take your time to cross the tracks - there death traps! It is either your money and stock gone or your life.

  • yeah really, i mean come on!

  • HAHA, reminds me of Lethal Weapon4. the bad guys try to push Mel gibsons car on the tracks while a train's coming. Last second Mel slams it in drive and flies across the tracks. And the villain's Tahoe gets slammed twice- by 2 different trains. Love that scene!!!

  • Onalaska, Wisconsin.

  • Fortunately the train wasn't doing a high velocity of speed otherwise the scene would have been much more devastating. It was to bad that their business was robbed a lot.

  • it was going quite fast tho...

  • you are aware this is a reenactment....

  • are all of your videos about rescue 911?

  • Yes, except for one, which is the intro for Real Stories of the Highway Patrol.

  • there is one called christmas tree ornament fire if that is what u r looking for.

  • allgood i have a question i'm not sure what episode it is but it's a christmas tree fire episode where the little kid gets badly burnt by the fire after the window burst open.let me know i will try to find it. thanks

  • I think that's "Christmas Tree Inferno" from Episode 512, but I don't have that one and I haven't seen it in a long time, so I don't really remember that much about it.

  • google it if u dont believe me ....the trax by my house in florida ...Florida East Coast ....they have one or go on FEC website

  • I guess some people will never learn. Don't try to beat a train, the stakes aren't worth it. At least he came out of the whole thing alive.

  • He was trying to save his business from being robbed, i think the train was the last thing going through his mind.

  • Up until the moment before he was hit...

  • Hey i don't mean 2 bother u or ne thing allgood but i was wondering if u had the 2nd segment of episode 313 the one where the unconscious man is trapped in his burning pickup truck

  • Yes, I have that one.

  • I really feel sorry for that guy. We sometimes act stupid. I have learnt tremendously from Rescue 911. Life is more important than anything.

  • A semi was smashed in two, today where I live. Two Soo SD60s smashed into a semi truck that didn't stop at the crossing. The unit only had a brooken window, and some bad handrails.

  • where do you live and when did thsi happen what town and satse did the 2 soo line engine smash into a truck

  • I would imagine it actually looked a lot worse in the actual event.

  • Did they ever catch the Burgular?

  • WAS THIS AN ALCO LOCOMOTIVE And he was lucky to have survived such a horrible crash

  • Yes. It looked like a C628 or C630, But it could have been a U-Boat.

  • no it was not an ALCO Locomotive ALCOS are smaller

  • No, it's an ex GB&W C424 alco. It now works for the Minnesota Commercial Railroad. I belive this unit was once a C&NW.

  • what numberboard soe it carry for the Minnesota commerical has it changed at all

  • "no it was not an ALCO Locomotive ALCOS are smaller"

You think ALCO only made switchers? Have you ever seen the C636? Methinks you need to do some homework, kid.

  • Are you talking to me?

  • Seeing as you're the one who made the comment I placed in quotation marks yes, I am.

  • Dude its total true ALCOS are smaller My local railroad has tons of them and the ones that are not ALCOS are way bigger

  • I don't think you should be judging a locomotive's manufacturer by its size. For me, I distinguish an ALCO road switcher from an EMD by the angle of the center windshield window panes, the flat front of the short hood, the contour of the cab roof, absence of fan grilles on the roof, the large radiator grilles towards the rear, and the AAR "Type B" trucks.

But that's just my opinion. If you're speaking from your own experience, then that's fine.

  • yea im talking from experience

  • its an ALCo

  • ok dude thats wrong i dont thing a brand like ALCO would call their brand ALCo

  • American Locomotive Company= Co ALCo

  • ok why did you start a name fight? thats weak dude -_-

  • omg whats the difference if its in upper or lower case or both, its a word, really isnt a big deal, and ya it is an Alco, Angles windows, Interior, ect.

  • This was a GBW alco, video filmed near Arcadia WI

  • #2 The recreation was done on the GB&W railroad before it became part of the WC and was done near Whitehall. In reality the accident was on the BN (now BNSF). Reason is the BN was/is a very busy track and they needed to be able to dig holes and to a few takes as well as have room to film (not much room at the real site).

  • #1 The crossing in question did not have gates or for that matter even gates at the time this happened - it does now. Also this crossing is at the bottom of a short hill with ZERO visiblity of the tracks until you are on them.

  • dang is soo unfortunate to hear the train won. hope u fell better dude.

  • my dad used to have that kind of system...when he owned his bar...and they bar was literally robbed like almost 15 times.and i always worried about him cause we lived near a bridge with train tracks that were over water.

  • what year did they hapen in and was this a local freight train

  • Happened in May of 1991. I don't know about the train.

  • something tells me the train won

  • milwaukee do you know what its called

  • oh do you know what town its in

  • Might have been Milwaukee

  • What is the name of the Rescue911 where a women fell from a covered wagon

  • I don't know, I've never seen it.

  • Anybody know if they had any other Rescue911's made in Wisconsin

  • I only know of two others. One where a woman was attacked by a pet python, and one where a woman was thrown from a covered wagon.

  • Wonder if this is a branch line of the GBW I f so please let me know And does anybody know the current RR through Onalaska?

  • mallmaven

"What was that siren at 4:19?"

Either a Federal Signal Director, Interceptor, or PA200 with the selector knob in between WAIL and YELP to create that tone.

  • i DIDN'T KNOW THAT THE gREEN bAY AND WESTERN RAN IN oNOALASKA wISCONSIN i THOUGHT THE bnsf RAN IN Onoalska

  • is this dvd coming on dvd or not.

  • Currently not, there isn't enough interest. That's why we're trying to get people to vote for it on tvshowsondvd(dot)com.

  • What was that siren at 4:19?

  • ALS2001 do you happen to know if this episode was made before the WC took over GBW operations at all?

  • That segment was on the Rescue 911 book that I had

  • go to tvshowsondvd ,com and vote on rescue 911 to come out on dvd, it is up to 433 votes

  • All I could think when I saw this was, "Of all times, this goddamn train just HAS to be coming now." For Christ's sake. That's what I bet was going through this chap's mind. On the other hand, this guy was implausibly fortunate to have survived.

  • Ron was probably not wearing a seat belt since he was thrown out of his truck.

  • 313...This is obviously Green Bay and Western C424 #313.

  • I live in La Crosse WI which is literelly right next to Onalaska nad there are not crossings that just say railroad crossing all of theme have gates, bells and lights except for a couple crossings in the city of La Crosse its self asnd those are hardly used at all unless the Brewery or a business by the brewery needs a load from the train.

  • ALCO's kick ass!!!!!

  • Thank God he survived!

  • Good Job adding the links to the end of the video David!

  • Vote NOW, Vote for RESCUE 911 to COME BACK to TV and to DVD

  • Oh, heck! An ALCO vs. a car.

  • How can you vote for it to be put on DVD? i look but i can't find it

  • You have to get a username and password for tvshowsondvd, then go back to that link.

  • hey allgood2000 look at my new video!its bloopers from the movie my friends and i made.

  • I put in my vote for 911 to get released on DVD, and to be put on TV again, so I guess my deed to sign is done!

  • aren't the gates usually down so you can't cross the tracks anyway?

  • Not all crossings have gates and lights.

  • They are, on the side you are on. You can just go around the gates through the other lane.

  • The crossing that this guy was at didn't have gates or lights. It just had the white X sign.

  • oh wow
