@Justin141415 just be thankful that people heard of this guy somehow. Someone hearing about him in a video game and deciding to check him out is surely better than them never hearing and appreciating him, you gotta remember a lot of those guys who saw the guitar hero one are probably kids who are just getting into guitar
Honestly....Albert King, for crying out loud. Jimi Hendrix? Excellent and one of SRV's influences to be certain. However, Albert King was a *huge* influence on SRV. Buddy Guy. Lightnin' Hopkins....SRV says this is a takeoff of one of his riffs, in fact. Also, Jimmy Vaughan. Schools open, guys...lots more to blues than Jimi Hendrix...who wrote only one 12 bar blues song in his brief career...Red House.
@chidgos well besides Jimi Hendrix probably no other blues guitarist could top Stevie. I would say Jimi Hendrix will always be the best because he was the beginning. Stevie Ray Vaughn was off the charts though.
@bluesmanjay1 thats actually a good point. Jimi Hendrix was the breakthrough though. I would say musicians like BB King and Howlin Wolf are the ones that are responsible for rock music I think Jimi Hendrix has inspired many more shredders than any other guitarist in history.
This is the tune that makes me think of SRV swaggering into a saloon in the roughest part of town and laying down this mad song and basically telling the whole damn place to STFU.
We sure as hell miss you to pieces, SRV! We sure miss you.
@hyperdiabolical: Yeah, I love the emotion of a well-sung blues tune as well. I mean REALLY, REALLY love it! But the studio version of "Rude Mood" is much more of a solo jazz guitar piece a la, say, Joe Pass, than SRV's (or Buddy Guy's, for that matter) typical guitar-and-vocal style. Noticed how there's almost NO note-bending in "Rude Mood". It's a steady stream of up and down-strokes of the pick with a great deal of ANGLE incorporated into each stroke. All of SRV's stuff has bent notes!
Talk about a seamless stream of 16th notes, many of which are double and triple-stops! This guy was the ultimate "alternate picker". I've never heard a live version exactly like the studio one, though. He had a tendency to be a bit repetitive in live settings, but kudos for pulling off the studio version, however it was that he accomplished it.
@dansteely77 Do you know Buddy Guy? He was a mentor to Stevie. Everytime I try to post one by Buddy it gets blocked by Sony, hahaha!
The problem with blues is that it is repetitive. SRV was a virtuoso in his own right. People look down on the blues for the very reason they should appreciate it. It's gusty and raw and a very "common man" kind of music. To me nothing conveys emotion like a well sung blues tune.
@Adam060756 I will upload some more today. You should visit my channel and you can see other stuff too. fiddler is great! Been friends for a while now.
@hyperdiabolical yyyep! toldja, Daddy G, i knew someone i can share this with ;). Meet my Aussie buddy from Sydney. (oh, his nam'e Adrian by the way ;)) Oh hey, I can be your promoter, lool! Keep 'em tracks comin'.
@thefidlerontheroof Anyone who is into African American studies needs to understand the blues first. It's the only reason America isn't a communist satellite of Russia. You know the downtrodden and revolutionary politics. I am po white trash, so I get the blues..you will too if you live long enough. I was about yer age when I got into it.
i dont know about u guys, but i m always in rube mood, Sting can go save the rain forest, i ll enjoy SRV, with my bourbon, wishing my luck to rain some moonshine instead of water. blooz, if u r into this kind of guitar playing, i ll marry you to have my personal session guitarist.ask my two ex husbands, i was a good double trouble, pain in the ass.
@bloozmonkey111 If you get this one right, you cease to be a monkey and become a god. How's that for your ego mate? I'd love to see you upload your tootles.
@hyperdiabolical Haha! My ego just went through the roof!! Probably right, although I seen people do it quite well, its possible! ;)) Forget about me, I'm just a session guitar player and an amateur. Let the folks who do it good post their tootles..
We miss SRV :'(
