prop 8 was something that was passed in November 2008 that took out the legal marriage process for gay and lesbians in California.
The entire campaign was rather confusing, on purpose. Because prop 8 = NO gay or lesbian marriage. So voting yes = no marriage while voting no = yes to marriage.
Most people would confuse yes as in "yes to gay marriage" and no as in "no to gay marriage".
This could be a way to screw up the voting process because it distorts the common view.
What prop 8 supporters won't tell you is prop 8 does indeed take away rights. Rights like long-term care insurance for public employees, state veteran benefits for widowed spouses, joint tax returns and the right to marry the person you love.
