Your tutorials are great and with this video, I discovered Synthesia. I have a Roland A-33. It's a MIDI Keyboard Controller, but without a tones generator (I have a Yamaha MU50), it doesn't works, because it's a mute keyboard. Do you know if Synthesia works with this keyboard? @L00seHell93 If your piano has direct-to-USB connectivity, then a standard USB A to B cable (often used with printers) should work fine. In this video, the Yamaha Clavinova CLP-120 piano did not have a USB port, so I used a simple USB MIDI interface to connect it to the Mac. I can recommend the Yamaha UX16 USB MIDI interface if you're looking for one.

And you're totally right about the incorrect fingering thing...I used to think I could play songs my own way, then my piano teachers tell me to use a different fingering (often the fingering written in the music!!! ha ha ha). In my head, I think they're ridiculous and it will just make it harder, but it often makes the piece much easier and feels much more natural. The composers write in fingerings for a reason!

However, with the purchased version, you can play along with sheet music across the top, which is how I learned, which makes it much more..."possible." ha ha ha

@timmieboy98 Yes, the current version of Synthesia has a Practice Mode that will stop the MIDI file/accompaniment and wait for you to play the correct note(s).

@bucprime What's more, you can use it to learn any instrument - If you have a guitar with a midi fretboard, you can do guitar songs on it, etc.

The cease and desist letter would never have held up legally - you can't copyright a single common english word for use in any industry. What they should have done was change "Piano Hero" to "Midi Hero", or something similar :D

i tried connecting my mac book pro with a midi cable to my own piano but it says "the other device (my piano) uses too much power and will be disabled from the use with this computer" (or something like that) i tried connecting it again but the same thing happened. i have the charger on too but it still says the same. plz tell me what to do?

can we suggest pieces for the programme? Oh and are there varying levels of difficulty? For example the rachmanninoff piano concertos (this would be excellent with an orchestra too and would help actual professional soloists to practice with an orchestral accompaniment). I know this would be extreemely difficult to do but it would be very usefull for me and i'm sure many others!

the only flaw in this game is that you can only play it if you have a certian type of keyboard, and if you have a laptop. must suck for people who only have a regular piano and/or no laptop (like me at this moment)

Yes. There is a feature built in to Synthesia that allows you to plug in a piano keyboard via a usb connection to play along somewhat like Guitar Hero except this game actually helps a person learn the piano..

@classicalpiano101: You should have a MIDI-capable piano keyboard that will connect via a USB MIDI interface or directly to one of your computer's USB ports. There's an FAQ which explains it in a bit more detail on the Synthesia Game website. There's also a discussion forum where you can ask other users.
