I think he is great, but for me this one was somewhat perfunctory and lacked emotion. There are other examples where he does play with emotion but this one was boring for me.

this kid is really really good..but only on the technical side...it sounds to me as if he does everything his teacher tells him to do...but no interpretation...thats why sergei will always be better. sorry for all you ruben fans but its true...listen to him...scales and everything..no emotion...he is a really good player...but not a good musician...the whole world of music lies in that difference..he, im afraid, is in the former group

Actually, mrincredible hit it right on the nose, if a little harshly. I think it's odd that at the beginning of the cadenza Ruben hits a big fat D but then at the end doesn't play the written E, only a step higher, that is clearly within his reach. Then there's his messing with the form of the tune, odd phrasing, and dynamics that don't reach above mezzo forte. Also, all of the Italians posting below need to familiarize themselves with North American trumpet playing style. In bocca al lupo, guys

Where's the E at the end? It sounds like this kid has never heard a Mendez recording in his life. This has no fire, no life, no machismo, no Balls!! He hit most of the right notes, I guess. But any trumpet player can do that after age 15. I've seen some other videos of him doing awesome things, but he is clearly not comfortable in this style.

He's tired. It's optional. The run he played contained an E if you need one that bad.

It's funny how the "can nots" love to chew up rare talent like this kid. He's a monster, and with maturity he will play more expressively and passionately and perhaps, one day, even to your satisfaction.

wow. quite fast! very nice. Raphael Mendez would be proud....but he would like it more if you were "dancing" with your trumpet and pointing it all around to enhance the trumpet's sound. :)

man, can't wait to see what you can do as an adult! looks like tyler lindsay has some competition. the only critique i have for you is work on breath control. learn the appropriate times to breathe, try to circular breathe. once you start hitting those high notes, you'll have the complete package.
