I think it's about being thankful for what we have. The girl is always complaining about having a bad life, especially with the burnt food. But as she struggles with hardships at the end, the part she was saying "I was unhappy", she looks at the bread crumbs and eat it causing her to be happy. So yeah, being thankful.
