Did the procedure change a little bit for Alpha 3? When I loaded the Alpha 3 zip it rebooted itself and went straight into ICS without giving me the choice of loading the google apps zip beforehand. I shut down the Epic installed the google apps separately and it looks like it's OK so far, but I wanted to see if this is expected behavior for the new Alpha.

Question about restoring data once its updated. Are the three apps listed here "AppBak" "SMS Backup and Restore" "Call Logs Backup and Restore" the ONLY way to restore that data? Cause I have been using Titanium backup, but after installing CM9 and then restoring data from there, certain things like messaging are broken. Is there no way to restore from other backup apps?

Have this installed already, to install the Alpha2 cm9 do i have to clear data? cache? dalvik? before i flash the zip? or can i just flash it with out having to clear anything? LET ME KNOW ASAP thanks

Hmm. Put the 2 zip files in the 000flash folder and it's telling me no files were found in that directory.

@vizradio I fully bricked both my Epic's here's what I did and it worked. Take off batt. cover, under the left side of camera there is a reset button push with ink pen. You should then be able to go into download mode. Next ck. out Qbking's vid How to Unroot / Unbrick the Samsung Epic 4G on BML and MTD. GOOD LUCK!

Just wanted to share a lil trick I discovered, if you are having problems w/your cable or computer not recognizing your device use the app. airdroid from the market, awesome app that allows you to control your phone and add files to your sd card via wifi!!

hi so i installed the CM9 ICS on my epic 4g. for some reason i cannot install the gapps. it will get stuck in a boot loop. but when i install the CM9 and reboot everything is fine...

should i just download from another mirror and install everything again? do i have another option like install gapps only/directly since the CM9 by itself is working fine

problem fixed, run a full boot of the system and then reboot into recovery and install gapps.

if anyone has this and is stuck in boot loop just 1.) hold down power, v/down, cam. 2.) boot into recovery.

3.) wipe system, both cache and reinstall CM9.

4.) then fix permissions and reboot.

5.) let CM9 do a full boot,

6.) reboot into recovery and install gapps

7.) reboot and done

Nice rom just a few problems: no voicemail, voicemail in notification bar saying dial *86, and the artifacts in video. Other than that I'm very pleased.

@FredSolomon Voicemail works. Just change *86 to your phone number. If you mean Sprint Visual Voicemail that too works if you restore it. A few have had problems with the ringer but most have not. Custom ringers work best so far.

OK these are my steps I do. I odin back to stock. Let it go to either EI22 or El30 Ive done both. Flash this custom kernel on so i can make the CWM stick which I put [cwm-5.0.2.7-epic4g.tar.md5] on it. Then I root the stock. Then I shut down my phone then boot into CWM and wipe as you did in the video. Then right when i flash it my phone auto reboots into a different CWM and continues the flash of the room and then it auto reboots again and sets at a black screen with just the menu lights on!=(

Install went as shown except that the phone rebooted on its own after installing CM9, before I could install Gapps. I had to shut down and go into CWM again to install Gapps. Now I have 2 Epics in my Market account. Running pretty good on CM9.

I odined back to stock let it update to EL30 stock then rooted it then tried to flash it and this Random offset (0x15f) comes up after it checks the state of mtd or whatever and bml then I restart it and it just sets blackscreen with touch menu light ons.. So I made a bit of a mistake. I don't have the latest version of CWM (thought i did) but tried to install, this bricked my phone (or it just keeps restarting) how do i either install the right version or get my phone to work?

@hotwire58 Download the newest CWM ( O think for epic it is 5.0.2.7) Then download and start Odin... uncheck "reset time", and in the PDA section, select the CWM file (make sure the check mark next to the PDA section is enabled), go into download mode on your phone (open the keyboard and hold #1 and power button at the same time). plug in your phone to the computer, (make sure COM number comes up in Odin)... then click Start. Then flash your rom from CWM again.

@hotwire58 If you mess up, or for any reason it does not work, when you restart your phone you will see a terrifying icon: ! ---> (Computer icon). If you see this, do not worry... your phone is not bricked. Simply remove the battery for 30 seconds, take a deep breath, and reinsert the battery. This will enable you to get back into download mode (1 + pwr button) to try again.
