Great job! I like those lyrics -- there are so many for the song but you had some nice ones! They fit to gather fine. And there is nothing shabby about yer clawhammering either -- if I say so myself!!
Thanks Bernie. I LOVE clawhammer banjo but have never been able to handle the "drop thumb" business. That, and the fiddle, have been lifelong frustrations. I`d upload a fiddle tune or two but am afraid, in addition to the dog diving under the bed, my Mac might explode......
Thanks Kevin. One never knows what will turn up in a dump; always worth an expedition....
We spent a few days about three hours north of you in and around Ballycastle in June; played in a couple of fun sessions and enjoyed the lovely scenery.
Nice banjo playing! You should edit the bit out about 'non existent claw hammer skills'
You also made the very common mistake ok mistakeing frailing for clawhammer. claw hammer originated from guitar, its a style that sounds as if there are two instruments playing.
A wonderful rendition of this old mountain classic, along with totally pleasing narrative and atmospherics. Nice study and dog,as well. Thanks for this, sir.

Thanks for playing! I haven't heard Shady Grove with the sus chords - can you share your secrets?
fuzzymonkeypants 3 years ago
Thank YOU. I have no secrets but am happy to expose my musical ignorance by asking; What the hell`s an "sus chord"?

Once again, thanks for the kind words. I`m told this is one of the earlier versions of the song.
Wishuey 3 years ago
Have a look and listen to "zeppmusic". He`s amazing; does both versions.

That sounded fantastic. I think the dog thought about joining you in a back-up role at 1:17.

Many thanks. Yes, Islay the labradoodle got distracted from checking out the situation outside, probably a sour note.

Make that "probably BY a sour note".....

Think you're a little hard on yourself as regards your clawhammer skills.

Thanks. I`ve never been able to master the "drop thumb" part, but a few old timers didn`t do it either.

Incredible. Your voice is great, your playing is even better and this is far from lame. Keep it up.
