I own this guitar but mine doesn't sound half as as bright as this recording, even with new strings it seems a bit dull. Also I had to file the bridge down quite a lot to get the action lower and keep the intonation on the higher frets. I was trying to get a decent guitar for a good price, I think next time I will spend the extra cash for a Martin.
I bought one of these 5 years ago... I was always wanting a Taylor, but when I went to a new guitar center, they were (thankfully) the only guitar center that didn't stock taylors (long story why, they stock them now). So the salesman suggested this, and I fell in love, and I doubt I will ever need another one. I am a serious and picky musician, but I honestly couldn't improve my guitar more if I tried.
when i went to buy my breedlove, the one i wanted was marked at $999. however the only one left in stock had a weird fret buzz on the 11th and 12th fret. so i paid $499. one 15 minute truss rod adjustment later, guitar sounds perfect.
@edoedinedo Mark Sylvester has tabs of these tunes available on his website. See our video description and follow the link, then click on "Store." The first example is "American Gypsy part 2."
This guy can play. Really didn't like the two I played at GC. One was heavy both had a thick clear coat and both were rather flat and dull sounding but much better than a $2000 Gibson I played, although this is $999. Haven t played a new Gibson I liked..Bought a used Tacoma DR12 for $350 weighs half as much and is so much more responsive but no electrics.
yeah, can we have some little idea about the song which is played first in this video ? :) My breedlove is shipping for switzerland in a week :p anyways I'd still love to play this ! some infos ?
I have this model (not the electric acoustic this guy is playing but the acoustic/acoustic) and after a year of the date I bought, it was no longer made.
The guitar looks terrific, it sounds great and the carrying bag and guitar case are well made. I would like to know the reason why they discontinued. Was it defective? Was it poor sales? Or it is not that good after all. A discontinued product makes it lose it’s value.
@lundrux It's more accurate to say that Breedlove revamped/renamed many of the models in their Atlas series. Their current "Stage C25/SRe" is essentially the same guitar as this one, with the same selling price, but with a better electronics package. Many of the other older Atlas models also have comparable "new" models with slightly different model numbers.
@lundrux The problem definitely wasn't poor sales, because the AC25 SR Plus is the best selling Breedlove guitar of all time. With the introduction of the replacement model, the price was raised significantly. Maybe a little too much bang for the buck with the AC25 SR+?
@jnkhd To clarify, the "replacement model" (Stage C25SRe) is the same selling price as the AC25SRPlus was when it was a current model--$1,339 retail, $999 street selling price with most vendors. When the AC25SRPlus was discontinued (late 2008), many sellers dropped the price, which is common in this situation. It's not uncommon for guitar manufacturers to change model numbers as they "tweak" their lines. Alvarez recently did the same thing.
@salm37 All of Breedlove's "Atlas" series guitars (including this discontinued model) are made in Korea. They recently introduced the "American" series which is all USA-made and starts at $999. They are amazing--contact us directly for more information!
ive figured out the first tune and can play it .. though not as neat as the guy in the video .. requires some really deft guitarwork coz leads and rhythm are in the same flow ..
luckily found a slightly used one at guitar center and got it tax-free for 500. love it, great tone and feel... and the built in tuner is always helpful. really a beautiful guitar.
This model is not made anymore, but there actually was no "non-plus" version. The next step down was the AC25/SM which had mahogany back & sides, and we believe the sides may have been laminate. The "plus" models were called so because they were all solid wood and also had fancier inlay & some other cosmetic upgrades.
I feel amazingly fortunate to have gotten mine off of craigslist today for $500. What a great guitar. Had to put it down because my fingers are throbbing from not playing acoustic in six months, lol.
i have one of these they are amazing lol to bad they discontinued them they are great guitars and they arent that heavy and i think they sound better than some of the 4000-5000 gibsons
Wow, I have one of these. I wish I could play it like that. I expected to find your other demos making the other, more expensive guitars sound even better, but I liked this one the best.
the first song is great ! ... but , i can't get it :| ...it's like i live in Africa :| ... we don't have acces on amazon ... i'm from Europe , for god sake :| .... from where can i buy it ?
I should have mentioned also that my 12 string Breedlove came with the best case I've ever seen. I play professionally and beat the crap out of my guitar cases. It's a mystery to me why some guitar builders make excellent instruments, charge a fortune for them, then sell them to you in a crappy case. The quality of the case is incredibly important for the longevity of the guitar. I'm not sure who makes the cases for Breedlove (I think it's company called TRG??), but they are simply the best.
I have the 12 string version of this guitar. It's the only 12 string I've ever owned that I can "safely" tune to standard pitch, because of the JLD truss system. Breedlove guitars can be a little pricey, but it's the overall value which must be considered. I have several other acoustic guitars (vintage and otherwise), and the Breedlove is definitely right up there in terms of build quality, sound, performance and value. Go get yourself one right now - you won't be disappointed.
Wow for the longest time I was into taylors as number 1 acoustics but breedlove is growning on me more everyday. and yes I know that there both companies are related.
I too have that model and have had it for over a year. Had a case of G.A.S and almost put it up on E-bay but I'm over it now after hearing it here and reading the positive reviews. It's a heavy guitar. My first one had to go back to the factory and they sent me a new one which sounds better than the first.
I like both tunes. I learned the second, now I'll tackle the first.
Thanks for your feedback. We now have the new redesigned version of this guitar, the Stage C25/SR. It sounds wonderful. This one is heavy too, you're right about that. For all of you looking for the AC25/SR PLUS after hearing the great reviews, contact us about the C25/SR. It sells for the same price the old model used to: $999 with hard case. Cheers!
I bought this guitar 2 years ago. I spent 2 days and over 15 hours trying out all of the acoustic guitars in Guitar Center. I narrowed it down to the Breedlove. Perfect tone, incredible playability.
I just bought exactly this model and I already like it very much. The more I play it the more I love it. I would level my skills as an advanced beginner. I own a Dean Exotica which I like as well but the Breedlove is so easy to play and has such a warm great full sound. From my point of view, a great instrument. Ciao
thanks so much for the video, i traveled 160 miles round trip today to find a dealer with breedloves (I was planning on buying a Martin D-16GT) but after playing a Breedlove J350 I've restarted my whole 3-month research process to find the right Breedlove for me! These guitars live up to the hype and I can't wait until I can track down the right one for me. (Do note that these guitars do vary quite a bit guitar to guitar so be sure to play the exact guitar you want to buy)
I have the Black Magic version of this guitar. It's amazing. One question though, what strings is he using, and what gauge are they? I put some Cleartone 11's on mine per the salesman, and they are just ok... Lot of string buzz... =/
Most likely these were D'Addario EXP (coated) light gauge strings, which is generally what Breedlove puts on at the factory. They start at a 12...go lighter than that and you probably might get some buzz unless you get the guitar set up.
I just bought a concert as well and it is the NICEST guitar in the store for the money. Make sure you play a couple if you are seriously looking because they can sound drastically different from guitar to guitar. The one I scored sounded 5 times better than the first one I picked up. Read my full review on Harmony Central. Just click on user reviews and then type in Breedlove Atlas AC25/SR Plus. My review is under user name alternateroots. Good luck!
I picked a breedlove over the Martin I was wanting to get. I must the sound is brilliant, clear rich sharp. Breedloves play smooth Mine has not gone out of tune once. Great guitar.
