One of the real greats, and the originator of a lot of the electric guitar showmanship and chops that we have seen over and over again. Cool West Coast style, much jazzier and different than Chicago (which I love also). I was fortunate to see T-Bone the year he died at the now defunct La Bastille in Houston... they had to practically prop him up onstage but he still played some insightful, cool riffs. One of the many who toured all the way to the end.
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH BUDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! fuckin' this is WILD !!!! Fuck the 1 bat turd skin head who said dislike. This is what is and always will be!
dig how he does whole tone riffs at 3:44, I saw TB live once in maybe 68, he tore the house down and a big house it was, an all day gig at the Hollywod Bowl called Guitar Explosion with many other greats, Roy Buchanan, Burrell, Pass, 17 year old Robben Ford...
I agree with irondragsportster,...T-Bone was born in Linden, Tx. (incidentally, where Don Henley was born years later)....and T-Bone played in Dallas and on the "chitlin circuit",..(blues clubs in the south )...in his younger years,...Recorded a double-sided 78 record in Dallas in 1929, ("Trinity River Blues", and "Wichita Falls Blues")He is believed by some biographers to be the first musician to perform playing the electric guitar. B.B King says he heard T-Bone, and bought an electric guitar!
Always difficult to say who did something first. For example George Barns (white kid) played electric guitar on Jazz Gillums 14/3/38 Boar Hog Blues, recorded in Aurora Illinis. Bafrnes was on 5 other tracks titles Gillum also had Broonzy on electric in 45 & Willie James Lacey in 47.
Astonishing to see / hear this after forty years (in my case) of loving the blues. First heard of T Bone when Greg Allman was introducing Stormy Monday on Live at Fillmore East - still one of the best blues tracks I know. What is clear from this is just how much the Allmans, Hendrix and others learned from T Bone. I read that BB King said it was hearing T Bone's 1949 record of Stormy Monday which made him want to play guitar. What a beautiful vocal too.
Amazing mix of blues and jazz riffs - and all without stomp boxes and other effects - wow - great to hear the origins of what I've listened to for years!
iis a real example of origin of the popular music of the twentieth century,
mainly Rythm'n'blues and own Rock'n'Roll itself.
the riffs are played there used to date, only one I know that many musicians or bands of blues guitarists from Brazil and the United States of today are trying to reinvent something already done and sated by these generations of T Bone. I loved what I saw.
detail, the bass is super on the basis of acoustic harmony.
Any terminology regarding correct/imperfect is absurd. It's a mental block. If you were blind and no one told you, you would never know. In that case, lefties playing right handed instruments are wrong also, but I've heard of them, and never heard of you.
All of the people who keep nagging about how he doesn't hold the guitar correctly, listen to what the intro says. That's what blues is about. Blues isn't about a perfect technique and stance and making the guitar sound like it's payed by a robot.
oh yeh when hendrix plays behind his back or when hes essentially makin furious love to it thats not really playing correctly is it?but then what we'r all those ppl at monterey on about when the said they were 'blown away', are they sayin they were 'blown away' by a guy who couldnt play the guitar correctly, na i think what there saying is that irregardless of how u play it as long as u can melt faces an make white women scream ur playing the thing btter than correct
listen folks he doesnt hold gutiar the proper way but ok big deal man he can still play and he can play 1 of the best as long as you can make that kind of sound the way tbone did in reality who cares how you hold gutiar upside down for all i care thx
blues is so much better than metal. I really dislike metal style. metal is so 1 dimensional. Hendrix took T bone Walker blues and added outer space magic. there is no limit in blues playing, it can be anything
@mikexlong You got that right. I hate to use the term "dead" when describing rock n roll but Rock is definitely asleep right now. It wont ever die. someday somebody will breathe new life into it again like Kurt Cobain did once upon a time. Modern bands seem to have no knowledge of the blues legends of yesterday
@mystro810 Newsflash, douchenozzle: My Chemical Romance is not, in fact, a reliable basis on which to base one's opinion of a supergenre spanning hundreds of subgenres.
Well he's got his strap in front of his neck for starters. Other than that he's just a great gut bucket player. Notice he really doesn't go beyond straight inner partials--7ths and 9ths is as far as he goes. It's his fabulous vocals that complete the deal.
What's so amazing is that, all guitarists can play the same exact notes and still have a totally different feel and sound. That's what make blues so special. Pure heart and soul...it's what you put into it.
T-Bone was post WWII where acoustic Blues was just meeting Electric Jazz...T-Bone could do both! Some say T-Bone got Electric Blues started...Many copied T-Bones riffs...Either way, T-Bone should be in the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame! HE built the foundation!!!!
He is in the Rock N Roll hall of fame. Inducted the 2nd year of its existence in 1987. They leave out quite a few people, but they didn't overlook the great T-Bone Walker.
Wow! he had so much emotion in his playing and body lanquage, I thought this might just be an instumental, and then his vocals came in so strong,It made me see how much the music was real! It almost seemed like a multi million dollar music video where every thing had to be just right then remixed 12 times and 12 takes, but it was just...class!
T-bone is a 5 star in singing, guitar playing and songwriting; a very very rare talent. His inimitable guitar work always makes me listen to every single note he hits.
