  • 8:30 ORGANSM

  • OMG - i cant stop hear this ;-)

  • When i listen at this i feel like Pat at 5:21.

    LoL

  • Andreas Kapsalis, Pat Metheny, and John Scofield are the best guitar players.

  • Then came along Joey D.

and cut the heads off the dead bodies ! OMG !

  • My teacher said "hit em over the head with same lick" well Pat M. played the same lick over

    2 choruses ! DAMN ! he murdered them !

  • La batería la veo innecesaria en ésta pieza.

  • My faith in human kind is restored !

  • incredible musicians, but organ player..wow..blows my mind away!!

  • Pat is jazz, I love his solo. Than comes Scofield with is wonderful sounds and smoothness. And then BOOOOOOOM here comes Joey, like a bomb on a kindergarten and totally blows out my ears! he is THE man....

  • It seems so often the bass player doesn't get seen. There's some lovely bass runs going on in this. If you guys like this you might also wanna look up on here.... Medeski Martin Wood and Scofield" I especially like that track they do called Chicken Dog. Has a nice double bass solo to start it off.

  • @lordbagpuss That's because the bass player is Joey's left hand and his feet...

  • damn, why dont they play this at parties? THIS, I can dance to!

  • My god... This is awesome, i want ti see the bass player =/

  • @fargu1to Umm.. that would be Joey's left hand on the Hammond then!

  • THIS is an absolutely AMAZING Joey Defrancesco!

  • Is pat the first player w the cherryburst archtop or is he the second with the 335ish guitar? I prefer the first

  • @jahrastapack Pat is the first, John Scofield is the second and Joey Defrancesco is the organ player.

  • Did you know that Pat Martino suffered a stroke and lost his memory and, with it, his ability to play the guitar? He had to learn all over again from listening to his records! The fact that he regained his dexterity, his musicality and imagination is amazing. His lyricism is astonishing. If he couldn't remember three words that begin with the letter A, it could be evidence of the brain trauma. You need three words that begin with A? What a criterion.

  • John destroys Pat here.

  • @goodresonance

in terms of flashiness and whimsicality? sure. but in terms of novelty and musicality? not even close....

  • it fantastic to see three masters of modern jazz improvising over this piece. they speak their own language!

  • yeahhhhh!!!! that's the real shit!

  • the best song

  • WAS with Pat in Austin Tx last Fri So Soulful

  • man i can't stop watching this! soo good, joey d kills it

  • Joey Defrancesco's solo is TERRIFIC ! listen to the scale at 7:00 ! And the crescendo at the end ... Fortunately for the two guitarists he plays after them. How could you make a solo after that one !

And he also plays the bass in the same time !

    I love this guy !

  • PAT MARTINO DRANK A DROP OF CHUCK NORRIS' BLOOD BEFORE GOING ON STAGE....

  • who is that drummer???

  • @drummerb0y4life Byron Landhau - drums

  • john's playing is sooo much different from martinos. you can see each ones character in their playin

  • 1.3 million views... people are finding out how awesome this is

  • I much preferred Howe's version as far as the opening melody goes, but then it broke into something so genius and beautiful I was mind blown

  • This video is incredible! Love it.

  • Holy fuge! And I thought my guitar teacher was crazy when he repeated something for longer than four bars. But still sweet!

  • This video is incredible - these are all musicians of the highest calibre. Monster B3 playing, and Scofield is so clever it hurts. Martino can really shred. Byron Landham is the glue to hold it all together. I thought Pat Martino's repeated riff was pretty cool - gives you a chance to catch up to him, and then you can 'zoom out' to appreciate the whole sound stage, especially the interplay between the drums and organ.

  • I just jazzed in my pants

  • ジャズ夢の競演のひとつ、パット・マルティーノ、ジョン・スコフィールド、18番必殺の”SUNNY"マルティーノの神業フィンガリング、デ・フランセスコもイイネ! #jazzm

  • Hey JS sounded good for once

  • Damn, why didn't they film the guitar fingers?

  • @MrTheDudest The cameramen just never get it

  • @MrTheDudest the return will be 10 fold if you sit there and learn their solos by ear. Takes 10 times as long but you will see why.

  • @gmcwhir I agree entirely. I have always learned everything by ear, because I don't read music. I firgure out Bird solos sometimes but not often enough. But my comment was more about wanting to see the guitar fingers because it's cool to look at... anyway, happy guitar fingering.

  • does this kind o jazz has a specific name?

  • @DonConstantinos 'sick' jazz

  • @DonConstantinos I don't think so. It's almost more of a pop song, but jazzed way up. I think it's pretty modern jazz, I guess. I could be wrong.

  • @DonConstantinos Hard bop

  • cool!

  • The exchange between the two guitars at the end was sweet.

  • WHO IS THE DRUMMER?!

  • Now you all just got to go back a lil' and hit up some Larry Young :)

  • hey doc this is to prove i was watching this video

  • 02:31 - 3:25 no words for it

  • How can Scofield be so good?Allan Holdsworth and John Scofield break all barriers on improvisation.

  • et après cela, on dira que les blancs n'ont pas le swing (je l'ai entendu d'un connard nommé Archie Shepp).

  • I love the DeFrancesco solo, simply it´s amazing, force, funny, diversity, colour...I want to play like him!

  • i recommend Choi Woo Joon - Jang nan III

  • I don't think the cameraman ever realized the bass was being played by DeFrancesco's feet.

  • @8649alex why

  • @mrez318 Because the camera never swept over the bass pedals on the organ.

  • It took me a long time to stop looking for the incredible invisible bass player and realise that amazing bass line was the organ! DeFrencesco is suuuch a king! Tooooo funky!

  • yeah, they play really nice guitar solos... BUT WHAT THE FUCK IS THE ORGANIST DOING?!

    HE IS FUCKING AMAZING !

  • yeah, they can play the guitar really nice... BUT WHAT IS THE ORGANIST DOING ?!

HE IS A FUCKING GOOD !

  • What'd Mozart say? Italians are musical idiots (?)

  • Sorry from 2:32 to 3:25 is just meaningless notes--or should I say an "EGO" trip--actually for me this is an extended rendition of ?

  • Sorry from 2:32 to 3:25 is just meaningless notes--or should I say an "EGO" trip--actually for me this is an extended rendition of ?

  • thumbs up if you like jazz and you're younger than 18 :)

  • The best guitar solo part is from 2:32 to 3:25 ;-)

  • everything i hate about jazz

  • @roman14032

you go girl...spread them good vibes! ;)

  • Pat is my favorite living guitar player. Saw him in Umbria, made the festival for me!!

  • Am i hear george benson ?

  • @ColinDOYLE100 Yes he had a brain tumor but that has nothing to do with the repeating lick. Jerry Lee Lewis could play an entire solo consisting merely of one note. If you'd listened a little further you would also have noticed that Joey uses it too. If you don't like that kind of lick that's your business but don't insult a great guitar player in the process.

Personally I loved it, I could hardly sit still! :)

  • Wow wooooooooooooooooooow

  • @ColinDOYLE100 Martino knows more about jazz and improve than most acccomplished jazz players put together, most of these guys including Scofield look up to him. If you understand anything about music you would realise that the same melodic line played over a moving harmonic sequence gives it a different sound. If you had ears you would notice. Next time dont talk about what you dont understand, stick to bieber.

  • Wow Joey... wow, just wow. wow.

  • This reminds me of a scene in a Simpsons episode where they go to a jazz concert and there is a poster saying

8 hour jazz concert (3 songs will be played) :P

Beautiful music though. And Pat Martino is such an ispiration for guitarists

  • i definitely heard an electric bassist but did not see one in the video. Could that have been Joey D supplying that kick ass fretted bass sound? Joey is a monster all the same. Deedwerksmatters.

  • @Chiliplease

its the organ players base pedals probably

  • I've seen both Pat Martino and John Scofield a number of times separately in small jazz clubs in Manhattan, but never together like this. Pat actually suffered a brain aneurism, lost his ability to play and had to re-learn to play. He is by far the best guitarist in the world...blessings

  • Can anyone tell me what kind of guitar effect Scofield uses at the end of his solo? thank you

  • @gabrielejazz I think its an all cranked up chorus. Scofield loves to do that.

  • @ColinDOYLE100 Such a pathetic comment; I personally enjoyed Martino's solo. Since you're such a know-it-all, why don't you post up some videos of yourself playing? If you're going to talk shit on a talent like Martino, you better be able to back it up, pussy.

  • @ColinDOYLE100 you're so dumb that I can't believe you exist.

  • There are shredders - and then there's Pat.

  • and the jazz musicians win again

  • Wow. Wow. Just WOW!!!!

  • @krasnyploshad5: Save the racist nonsense for someplace else... all that matters on the bandstand is whether you can play or not... that's it.

  • @krasnyploshad5

He is one of the best drummers alive playing with the best organist and jazz guitarist alive... Jazz is not about race it is about expression as a group and as artists together.....Music rises above that kind of limited thinking.

  • I love John Scofield's notes a ton better, but Pat Martino just uses the sickest rhythms when he solos.

  • 12:00 min - altered dominant SHOWDOWN!

  • from 10:00 ---> out is just sick , dual improv!

  • Joey Defrancesco is a beast

  • Great vid. Scofield is amazing. Pat was good until he started doing that incredibly annoying lick for over a minute. Pat is really good too though.

  • FODA PRA CARALHO!!!!

  • 6:30 - 6:35 Scofield dancing! So sweet! :-)

  • They groove like hell!

  • listen to pat martino live, early 70`s-sunny-wow just incredible,,,,this is as well.sco is just one of the alltime greatest improvisers, the way he crafts his lines and the depth of his story is just inspired--they both tell a story----the ultimate place to get to-and they are having number one-FUN

  • listen to pat martino live, early 70`s-sunny-wow just incredible,,,,this is as well.sco is just one of the alltime greatest improvisers, the way he crafts his lines and the depth of his story is just inspired--they both tell a story----the ultimate place to get to-

  • listen to pat martino live, early 70`s-sunny-wow just incredible,,,,this is as well

  • é do caralho esse video! animal!! =O

  • church organ steals the show!

  • I was here for the guitars but ended up enjoying Joey's playing even more:)

  • 75 deaf motherf*ckers.

  • @joshuarosenblatt I agree - you must be stone cold deaf not to appreciate this great version of this jazz classic.. What talent!

  • fantascienza!

  • all is great but especially part started from 8:30 is outstanding

  • Especially listen to the bass lines at the beginning of Scofields solo. THAT is incredible...

  • Seriously folks, aside from the amazing guitar &organ solos & the superb drum work, what is truly astounding to me about this video is Joey D's footwork. At first, I was looking to see where the bass player was. I couldn't believe that Joey D was playing those amazingly fast, funky intricate bass lines with his feet!!! But, there is no bass player. That is Joey D. THAT is simply stunning. He sounds like an incredibly funky bass player ripping on a Fender Jazz. He truly is a musical GOD.

  • @xango2001 >He truly is a musical GOD.

NO, he's just gifted and practices a lot. I can't play like he does, and I admire him tremendously. However, I've transcribed a lot of his solos and have found that there are number of repeated patterns and tricks. Learn these in all keys, and you're well on your way.

  • @gingervytis Of courst. All improvisers repeat patterns and licks to some extent. The art is in how they vary them and develop their ideas.

  • @xango2001 im pretty sure he is playing the bass lines on the lower manual with his left hand, though that doesn't make it less any amazing. Organ trios are starting to become my favorite jazz combos, which is sad considering I play the bass

  • @halpinghand123 i was wrong, that dude is a beast with his feet

  • @halpinghand123: Heh, well - some organ groups utilize a bassist; Howard Roberts' great 1960s organ groups used a bassist, to name one example. Glad you are open-minded enough to like organ trios, because some jazz purists don't care for them. I was a bassist before switching to guitar, and it has always amazed me that a good jazz organist can play bass, chords, and fills - and not miss a beat. Amazing! Joey D. is the man...

  • @xango2001 time to calm down a little

  • This video just DOOMED HUMANITY... They should change the name of the tune to SCORCHING!!! Glaciers are melting, Deserts are dry and thirsty and insane guitar and organ riffs swirl around endlessly in my mind. Global Warming Catastrophe is what this is and they dare to call it: "Sunny"... I LIVE for this... I DIE for this... I"d be REBORN IN HELL for this. Pat, Joey, Sco and Byron... Thank you for a little slice of heaven NOW SOMEBODY CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT!!!!!!!!!!
  • Sorry, 1victorjazz are right, drummer Byron Landham.

  • I think drummer is Kenwood Dennard.

  • I think drummer is Kenwood Dennard

  • Philadelphia's own, Byron "Wookie" Landham on drums!!!

  • WHo's the drummer? He's ill!

  • Is like two god's talking a divine language!

  • i like how pat just like stares at joe durnig his whole solo liek WTF??

  • This is giants speaking as they do.... signature licks / tone / effects.. its who they are

No wrongs... nothing but rights. My sixth time to watch. I think I'll watch it some more

  • whenever i'm sad i listen to this and for 14 minutes i forget how it felt

  • Love it TOO MUCH

  • WHO WOULD DISLIKE THIS??? People who missed the like button, that's who.

  • @doctorbananapants I love everything in it but the scofield dabbling.

  • Martino owns the tune, and JD flyin', as is stix

JS---here and there, alright, but ...he's not on

  • Comment removed

  • Martinos phrasing and melodic ideas are boring as hell

  • I wonder what Sco is thinking when he gives DeFranscesco "the look" during his solo... any suggestions?:P

  • @Hilmers1 he is probably telling DeFrancesco "follow me" notice after that look Sco starts leads the chord tones.

  • Komoroski na organach!!!!!!!!!!! JAZDA PREZIU!!

  • This is a wonderful rendition, but that cheesy Scofield segment should have been edited out.

  • Joey Defrancesco was badassss

  • That is some serious organ playing!

  • john solo

  • r5gaewg

  • 2:31 - 3:23.....did he run out of ideas or something? Not that I don't love it, it's just...he plays that one lick with little variations for almost a straight minute.

  • @zMasvidal I think he does that to allow the other instruments to play off of what he is doing. Listen to how the other guys are responding. I used to have the exact same reaction and then I started seeing that he is setting up a rhythm for the other guys to riff on.

  • @zMasvidal This is a Martino thing, and in case you didn't notice, JD did the same. The point is to build rhythmic and emotional tension. But evidently, you entirely missed the point.

  • This whole jam is awesome!! And I know awesome!

  • fuerzas iguales canceladas en una perfección bastarda

  • That was extremely cool.

  • Yeah, the look on Pat's face when Joey was gettin' all crazy was priceless. Something happened right there. I love that.

  • 7:30 - 7.44

    now, that was awesome..

  • Heerlijk, genieten!

  • @SteveJobsWorth Hey man, nothing wrong with EVERYONE enjoying jazz. That's one of things a lot of jazz musicians lost for a while and are only recently getting back. It sometimes ain't worth playing the music if no one besides yourself digs it. No harm in putting in those occasional crowd pleasers, 'cause when they start the get into it more, it's like a whole new experience. Plus, it takes skill to keep such a pushing groove for 15 minutes haha

  • Scofield takes to another planet with groove improv lines and especially harmonically

  • Comment removed

  • @jazzmuzo He should (a) dump the fuzz box and phaser; (2) get off the stage.

  • @gingervytis You can't possibly be talking about Scofield...

  • Sorry guys. Pat kills John on this one. John is a lick player. You can hear the same licks in there he used with Miles 20 years ago. It's a fun style and clever way to get through the harmony. But other than the last lick Pat played, which went on far too long, he smoked him...

  • Sorry guys. Pat kills Johyn on this one. John is a lick player. You can hear the same licks in there he used with Miles 20 years ago. It's a fun style and clever way to get through the harmony. But other than the last lick Pat played which went on far too long, he smoked him...

  • where's da DRUM solo?

  • @juliovac Dude, it's already a 14½ minute long tune :P

  • The whole is greater than the sum of its parts...get tired of reading who's greater than who's solo.

  • @JazzyJunior

While that is true, Joey's performance took it to the next level. Joey is why this has over a million views vs a hundred thousand.

  • @JazzyJunior i would listen to this if it was just joey and some drums. he is playing bass and dankest solos lol. i think joey adds infinity to the sum total of whatever he does

  • @JazzyJunior both are masters 15 years apart. Pat Martino is great and cannot do what Scofield does, Sco is great and cannot do what Ben Monder does. One guitar player to rule them all: Metheny.

  • @Multiac Metheny is good if you're into elevator music.

  • @mightyafrowhitey fair enough. Listen to his work with PMG or with his trio; it is stunning. As a soloist, composer, Pat is already a legend. I cannot think about one other guitar player who achieved so much in so many different styles. He takes music very seriously and is just a player apart. The years have absolutely no impact on his talent and capacity to create. I like sco very much but prefer his work till a go go. The sound change he went through on bump killed his fabulous lines imho.

  • @JazzyJunior sign! Music is not a competition! Competition is for turds. ;))

  • @ChiapasZapata Well said. Everybody has there favourites. That doesn't mean that they are the best.. Both these guitarists are great players.

  • I love u PAT......................

  • Comment removed

  • Wow......... Joey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • joey's right hand is the composer for a jazz band. and come on guys, john scofield has way more soul that pat. i didnt hear 1 ounce of dynamics in pat's first solo and i love how john decided to counter it with a perfect slow-build in obscure scales rippage

  • @elephantpoo4u pat's rush and constant phrasing are his trademark ! and i love it !

  • The chord @8:54 is the Chuck Norris of solo endings :D
