  • I will be donating a kidney in 2 weeks. On this video the doctor mentioned being tested for diabetes afterwards.... and my dad had diabetes.

  • I hear what Dr. DelPizzo is saying but yet it's difficult to grasp the concept that we can live a full and healthy life with just one kidney. I've been looking into donating a kidney for some time now and this always stops me - the fear of "What if my remaining kidney fails". I would like to hear/see from folks who donated YEARS ago (say 20 or 30 years). That would be much more convincing for folks like me who continue to teeter on the border.

  • i was born with 1 kiddney because my dad had a small kidney

  • this is helpful.

  • people can live with 1 healthy kidney.

  • Thank you for the video.

  • I became a living kidney donor on August 2, 2010. I am doing great and I also know a few other living kidney donors that can attest to what this doctor is saying. Its amazing that most people have two kidneys, but really only need one. I am tryng to help kidney donaton awareness. I also have a video on You Tube.

  • @sperouty I am giving a kidney to my mom on November 11th. I will look at your video. I am 41 and tumble (gymnastics, etc.). Do you think I will still beable to do gymnastics with 1 kidney? I didn't mention this to the psychologists.

  • @sperouty I am going through the testing process to see if I am compatible to be my friend's donor...I too, would like to start living donor awareness and have several videos already featured...please let me know if there is anything more that I can do to further awareness. This is one area where the public is not informed enough on...

  • @detroitlover1 Let us know how you get on...

  • I've donated my kidney to my dad in 1997 and i am doing great!!!

  • i was born with only 1

  • Excellent video!

I had donated a kidney to a stranger. Since my kidney donation, I have been wanting to do more - so I now have a project to help others who are in need of a kidney. I don't get paid for doing this and don't charge a fee.

I am hoping more people will come forward to donate a kidney so more lives can be saved!

    Sincerely,

  • In 2004 several thousand pets across Asia developed kidney problems due to pet food they were being fed.

At that time doctors and scientists blamed it on mold. They did not have the knowledge or technology to discover the true cause which was melamine and cyanuric acid that formed crystals in the kidneys.

It was not until 2007 that scientists finally determined what was causing the kidney failures. They went back and tested kidney tissues from 2004 and found melamine crystals.

  • It shames in regard to the U.S. food manufacturers and our government when I know that information is out there in private testing labs and University testing labs that proves many U.S. foods are testing very high in melamine.

Doctors and scientists need to be studying this and looking for this.

We all know kidney disease does not have symptoms early on so who knows how many of our kidneys are being permanently damaged by the crystals created by melamine in our food.

  • Kidneymitzvah, that was a wonderful thing you AND your brother did. I donated to my bro-in-law. Is anyone familiar with Juan Mann (free hugs campain)? He is going to donate a kidney to a stranger who needs it. Pay it forward....

  • Please join the cause of bringing awareness to the dangers of melamine and cyanuric acid in our food. The governments of the world are creating "allowable" amounts without and long term testing to support that safety.

They are also withholding knowledge of foods we are eating right that now that contain large amounts of melamine.

The government seems to be placing more value on protecting the image of the food industry from recalls, law suits and loss of consumer confidence.

  • I donated my left kidney to my brother 5 weeks ago. It's the most rewarding thing I've ever done in my life besides giving birth to my child. My decision to do this was made as soon as I found out that my brother might someday need a transplant. Luckily for him we were able to do this pre-emptively so that he didn't have to go on Dialysis. I know he feels blessed but I also feel blessed to have the honor to be the one to help him with the Gift of Life (and Love) when he was in need.

  • That is a heroic thing to do. Giving life to someone else is amazing. I wish doctors would talk a closer look at what causes kidney disease.

Anyone with one kidney should be extremely interested in melamine and cyanuric acid.

Our government is aware of private testing that has been done on US food products that are testing very high in melamine and yet that information is not being made public and that disgusts me.

Melamine and cyanuric acid form crystals in the tubules of the kidneys.

  • This is a great clip! Thank you! Many people with kidney failure die while on the waiting list for a kidney transplant when in their own family was a member or members who could have donated one of their kidneys. We honor donors! Check out Sheila Shaw's life after her kidney transplant. She and her sister have been living in FULL TILT ever since!

  • Great video - short & sweet. I donated a kidney - and my brother did as well. We both donated our kidneys to strangers. I am in touch with many others who donated their kidneys. It's an awesome experience - and if I can do it again - I would do it again tomorrow! - Chaya Lipschutz
