The main enemies of the British were the Marathas. Mahadji Scindia had been named the General of the Mughal army and the Peshwa was declared as the vice regent of the empire. If the British had not come, India would have been ruled by the Marathas..

@bilal647 That is true sir. The British were not sure if he was dead or not. I have read this in one of the books which i found in the "Idaara- e-adabiyat" in Hyderabad. I forgot the exact title of the book, but the book is still there and could be still found there.
