It is based on IFS Fractals - the movies are iterations over one or more fractals. Search for Apophysis - download it and run. The math can be found by doing a Google search on IFS Fractals, Chaos, or affine functions. Then do a search for flam3 - that is the program that takes a number of IFSs and converts them to a movie. Also do a search on "Barnsley Fractals". Barnsley wrote a book about them called "Fractals Everywhere". It is real simple math. Much simpiler than Mandlebrots.
