I don't know when the eggs where layed though and yesterday night i saw her pecking on the eggs and when i woke up the eggs dissappeared and she left only translucent eggs where she layed them do u have any clue where it could be ..?

  • Hi mate great video i have a Ob peacock and a electric yellow holding eggs in there mouth they bred on the 8/8/2011 how long should i leave it before i strip them many thanks Dave

  • after how long can u srip a female

  • why do you need to strip them?

  • I have been breeding african cichlids for almost 3 years and not once have i ever touched them with bare hands. that ruins their special slime they have and can enhance the chance of them being killed... as for your response to @jaill2hell i would have to say that you shouldn't just strip her when they have hatched it is better to allow them to mature about 16-21 days.... this allow them to be more highly developed... hmm... i like your tanks but not your stripping ways....

  • just a quick question, if you can see the fry moving in the females mouth is it safe to strip her? one of my yellow labs has some fry in her mouth (i can see them move if i look closely when she opens her mouth). i have other cichilds in the tank so i want to get them out so they wont be eaten, but the only problem is i only have a floating hatchery. and is there an easy way catching a fish in a tank that has loads of tight places for it to hide. (i dont want to take everything out)

  • wat was that orang fish it was so color ful were did u get it

  • what temperature is the tank at?

and what did u feed the fry?

  • hi pls need ur help... i just notice today that one of my females has eggs in her moth when shoud i strip her? pls help me my specie is Aulonocara gertrudae

  • @jaill2hell

If you know that it is recent and has not been more than 2 weeks, then wait about 14 days before you strip her... you can usually tell if they have hatched as the throat of the female will become darker and you can see the eyes of the fry through her mouth sometimes... once they have hatched it is safe to strip her, even if you can still see the egg sac on the fry as long as the tails are hatched they should survive, you dont need top feed them if they have a large egg sac either.

  • Can you please tell me what's the effect of high temperature on the fry? I have a brooding female but unfortunatelly i also have some sick fish i have to treat by rising the temperature around 30C (86F). I cannot separate the fry, i have no other tank. Does it affect them? Thanks

  • Ya thanks for the reply she spit them out so i will have to wait i thought see would eat them but that was the first time she had eggs now i know what to do thanks....

  • @AvatarKid4 well, you can also use a straw to suck the eggs up if she spits them out and put them in an egg tumbler. this will duplicate what she does in nature and the eggs will hatch in the tumbler instead of in her mouth. you can look up on line how to make a home-made egg tumbler.

  • I have a question, my cichlid has had eggs that i have seen for about 4-5 days and then i got a nursery net and put her in there, how long will it take for the eggs to hatch into fry and when should i take them out of her mouth after like 1 our 2 days after hatching?

  • I don't use a nursery net because it can stress the female out ans she may swallow the eggs but you can try it and see if it works for you.( we used to take the females out and put them in a different tank and they always swallowed their eggs and then when we put her back in the main tank she would get picked on because she would lose her place in the heirarchy.) anyways, the eggs hatch around day 12-14 depending on species and temp of tank, we usually strip the females on day 14...

  • they will have egg sacks but will feast on their sacks for 4-6 days then once they don't have any sacks we feed them...taking them out of her mouth at 14 days rather than 21 shortens the length of time she goes without eating and can prime up sooner for the next batch of eggs! You can also make a tumbler and take the eggs out right away and put them in the tumbler to hatch. we do this for the females that are likely to swallow from previous spawns... so good luck and let us know how it goes!

  • Need some help here.

I just stripped the fry from one of my Cichlids, and they seem to be in the same stage as shown in the video. I put them into just a small see-through container, and added a bubble wand into the container for oxygen. Should they be fine??

  • yea, they should be fine. just don't let the water get stale and if you can, get a breeder box from petco or someplace and put them in that into your tank. this will keep the temp. good for the fry.

  • Thanks for the fast reply.

I do have the 'container' floating in the tank, hoping it would keep the same temp. as the tank..?

  • OVER STOCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in MOST of the tanks!

  • @hhnguy i think hes a breeder and most of the fish are not living there lives like that. any way thanks for the vid you may have saved millions of fry from getting eatin haha.

  • Do you have enough fish???

  • hi,, i want to know what you feed the fry ? please let me know thanks!!!

    Nice video

  • @TheAfricancichlids1

well, we feed them a few things. usually we start off with frozen cyclops. its kind of expensive... about $10 for a stick or box of cubes. you melt it in a cup of warm water and dump the desired amount in your tank. once they are a little bigger, we feed them NLS (new life spectrum) either crushed or the baby formula. they start eating right away and within a few weeks they will recognize you as their provider and start swarming to be fed. hope this helps... thanks

  • @greenearthlawns

    thanks !!!

  • Well done I just stripped my Red Empress of fry with the egg sack about four days ago. Now they are free swimming and eating good job.
