why they didn't play this live is beyond me, i love this song, daves lyrics are great, i love how vh lyrics with dave are so laid back and its something we imagine ourselves doing, dave is so much better for this band, it suits there style as well, pure rock and roll at its finest,
@xTheFormlessOnedx Trust me, if you are a "guitar head", this is the band for you! Check out all their stuff and you will be hooked for good. I am glad you found them.

I'm sure someone else has said this, but isn't Eddie one of the greatest rhythm players ever?! His soloing is legendary of course. But listen to how f-ing TIGHT he was, especially on Fair Warning.
As if his lead playing wasn't a hard enough act to follow....
@nitedrive Yeah! His rhytm playing is the shit really! I`ve always loved his rhytms, like the bridge section in "Unchained". How do you come up with something like that?!! Pure genius!!!
I have to agree with MikeONW..Say what you want about David Lee..He pretty much is made fun of today and righteously so..But in this era VH 1 2 and of coarse there 3rd album fair warning. i mean some bands today would kill to make a record a 10th good as these classic gems.
when ever i hear this song i think of the night i went to a strip bar a few yrs out of high school and saw one of the hottest girls from high school naked on the stage.couldnt get her to go out with me in h.s. but that night for $20 did i get a show..this song goes out to you jackie
Thing I always loved about Roth-era Van Halen is they had these long, funky intros that got amped up to full speed like a rocket ship outta Hell........this song is a great example.......by the time David Lee is screaming and hollerin' the song is going 900 MPH and we're going to outer space!
@Hunkola ....Hunkola, you're a frickin' genious, and thank you for the props on my comment dealing with that fuckin' douche-bag Satch fan tryin' to talk amateur shit!! Great commentary....I'm a big fan, and I believe we think alike regarding how f'n great Van Halen, with Diamond Dave, was and is and how there will never, ever be anything like it again....these idiots need to recoginze!!
This probably was rarely, if ever, played live because there are parts that would require 3 guitars. Particularly the solos. To think that Eddie created the Frankenstrat by ripping it apart and, while trying to re-assemble it, forgot how to rewire parts of it!!! Classic!!
Everyone always goes on and on about Eddie's solos. Deservedly so. But HOLY CRAP, his rhythm guitar was so much more evolved, complicated and interesting than any other guitar slinger back in the day. Eddie's from another planet. Incredible.
@shredder1965 I agree. Eddie's rhythm playing (at least during the height of Van Halen) is sometimes overshadowed by his lead/solo ability, but he had the most solid, badass rhythm grooves in hard rock.
VH should have made a video for this song........maybe in a sleazy strip club with Dave fondling all the girls while Eddie shreds onstage.......something that would get banned from MTV in those days!
No disrespect to Dave, the tracks are classic.. but in response to "lakotabob".. yeah! I agree. Many of those early recordings held their own instrumentally..
Based on the circulating recordings we have, it's highly unlikely this was ever played live. Same goes for "Push Comes to Shove" and "One Foot Out the Door."
Look, Snatchbooger, show some fuckin' respect to the band you wet yourself over every night trying to emulate, but can't.......don't offer amatueur commentary and try to pass it off as something socially relevant. I'm trying to help you here, dumb fuck!!! Take the advice......now, I'm sure there's some filing that needs to be done at the warehouse you work at, so get some rest, dingbat.....peace
Satchbooger, when you're in your garage attempting to play yet another Eddie riff that frustrates you beyond belief and you question whether or not you should even waste the human race's time with your sorry existence, does it cross your mind that you couldn't, on your best day, come close to holding EVH's jockstrap or holding the job of Michael Anthony's ball washer or David Lee Roth's after-party fluffer cuz you're a loser beyond belief who failed miserably trying to make it on your own??? LOL
wait are you referrinf to satchbooggy one of the best guitar players and VH coverist on youtube i have known him for a while and hes not a faggot in fact hes one of the best ppl u cud ever meet
Satch or Snatch or whatever your stupid-ass name is, you're a sad wanna-be piece of shit "musician" who never made it, but like a movie critic will sit back and butcher a VH song and then "offer" his moronic quote-unquote "criticism" for the lemmings who follow your nonexistent career......kill yourself now!!!
Yes he is the riff master Check out my version of Push comes to shove I think it came out pretty good.I want to record Dirty Movies but i need the backing track for it.I am not going to play it over the original i hate that lol.
(sammartino68)..Dug it man (push comes to shove). @ 2:35 after the harmonics....when ed slides sharp into the solo right there...I missed not hearing it. Just a personal thing though. Soundiin' good dude. What are you guitars/amps?
I did get to see them..the fair warning tour was the best concert i ever went to...seen them at the L.A...sport areana..or forum...can't rember..still feeling the effects as u can see...I rember eddy standing under his wall of stacks and he ran up and jump kick the stack of speakers and they rock back and forth almost tiping over and he just stood there, right underneth them ripping a lead solo..just killer..will never see something like that ever again...it's so sad.I was in the 12 grade in 1981
I've been to about 40 rock concerts and Van Halen's 1981 Fair Warning show was my first concert and it was the best, hands down. Nothing has never even come close, not even the 1984 tour.
I'm thankful that I did get to see it live on the 1981 World Tour. After the Fair Warning tour, to my knowledge, this song never made it back to their set list, which is a shame. but "Fair Warning" is full of lost Van Halen gems, "Sinner's Swing," and "Hear About it Later," to name a couple more. Rock radio plays tons of deep cuts from AC/DC and Zep, but hardly ever do they go deep with Van Halen. I would love to hear "Dirty Movies" on class rock radio. I think I would have a heart attack.
I tend to agree. Seems many critics have other ideas but "So, this is love" with it's great snare drum sound and its driving energy really defined the best of the early band for me. Dance the Night Away put them on the map and Drop Dead Legs was the best song after this album.
Absolutely. No concert ever compared to the '81 tour. I saw them September 4. 1981 in Jackson, Miss., at the Mississippi Coliseum. Best days ever, no doubt.
very soon this video will be taken down BY THE COPYRIGHT NAZI'S. MANY OF MY VIDEO'S HAVE BEEN TAKEN DOWN BECAUSE OF THE COPYRIGHT ISSUE. I GUESS THE STEREO AUDIO SOUNDS TOO DAMN GOOD AND PEOPLE ARE STEALING IT FROM YOUTUBE. SO BE IT.
ENJOY MY VIDEOS WHILE THEY ARE STILL HERE ON YOUTUBE. I'll be posting all of the banned copyrighted videos at livevideo(dot)com.
And the funny thing is 1984 is my least favorite VH album with Roth! I am not surprised Hagar's version of the band sold more records, not at all since he comericalized VH and thats probably why i only own 5150 after Roth left, its just not nearly as good.
Really? The first 3 alone are great and the last 3 are great. Oh well to each and his own but for me all i would ever need is the first 6 albums with Roth and thats all i would ever need in my VH collection.
Hey hop2171! Thought you might be interested to know that Van Halen with Roth sold 34 million albums in the U.S., while Van Halen with Hagar sold 18 million. I'm not sure about international sales. This is according to Wikipedia, and I think they're pretty accurate on these statistics.
I am glad to hear that since the stuff they did with Roth in my opinion blows away anything they did with Hagar that i gotta admit that shocks the hell out of me. I mena lets face it, this song Dirty Movies didnt get a lot of air play and than you take a tune like "right here right now" was always on. Yeah that really amazes me
best VH album, best song on the album. -nuff said

Absolutely. No concert ever compared to the '81 tour. I saw them September 4. 1981 in Jackson, Miss., at the Mississippi Coliseum. Best days ever, no doubt.

A lot of guitar players are always trying to do something special! Unfortunately Ed did.

Next to VH1 its their best, case closed baby!!

Van Halen, 1984 and 5150 are the best sold albums
Fair Warning made it to 2 times platinum, none of the Van Roth albums sold worse, only Van Halen III with Gary Cherone sold worse

And the funny thing is 1984 is my least favorite VH album with Roth! I am not surprised Hagar's version of the band sold more records, not at all since he comericalized VH and thats probably why i only own 5150 after Roth left, its just not nearly as good.

i have all the albums accept for Woman And Children First and Van Halen III
and my very favourite album has always been the first Van Halen album.. and then Van Halen II, 1984 and then Fair Warning..
nog Hagar albums in my favourites, he is a better singer in my opinion but his songs aint having the extra spice of roth's songs

Woman and Children First is a damn good one too.

I dont know.. i only like 3 songs of it :P
AtomicVHPunk 3 years ago
Really? The first 3 alone are great and the last 3 are great. Oh well to each and his own but for me all i would ever need is the first 6 albums with Roth and thats all i would ever need in my VH collection.
hop2171 3 years ago
hmm.. i don't know:P i have al hagar albums and except for WACF all roth albums.. and i listen to all of them.. but everyone gots his owne opinion

Cool song. I like how it starts with that kind of happy, melodic feel and then kicks into a harder sexy sound at about 1:10.
And of course the subject matter is perfectly appropriate for the music. Hahah
