  • PROBLEM WITH GPS:

Hi everyone, i am constantly experiencing a problem with the GPS in this camera.

Every time i am on high elevations (on mountains for example) at 5-6 thousand ft or higher, just when the GPS is about to get a satellite fix and turn green, the camera totally freezes and the only way to reset or turn it off it to take the battery out !!

This is very frustrating - since the main reason i went with this camera was the GPS.

Anyone else has the same problems??

  • btw, in your example above, i like the vado picture quality the best, although it looks like the samsung might be a bit smoother while you are moving the camera.

  • yeah, the vado is pretty good .. i really like it too.

i have many more videos filmed with the vado - and some more comparisons, one with the iPhone 3GS and a couple with the Sony Webbie ..

  • i have also tested the vado against a few of my previous digital cameras (canon powershot) but the vado is better than any SD video recording device that cannot re-focus and use optical zoom while recording..

    - but the CL65 can do both of these !!! : )

  • The Vado has a CMOS sensor while the Samsung has an CCD sensor. CMOS sensors suck for recording movement or panning because of the rolling shutter effect.

  • i own the samsung, so i'm glad you said that. in the video here however, the vado looks quite nice wouldn't you say?

  • IMO the Vado looks like crap. I assume that it was a bright day so lighting was no problem. The Vado suffers heavy from rolling shutter and jellyfish and the colors look total unnatural. The Vado video looks like if it was taken on a evening in autumn where the light becomes a bit yellow-ish, but I think the original scene was more looking like the video from the Samsung. So overall color rendering of the Vado doesn´t look real.

  • So I would rather go with a still camera in the price range of the Vado like Canon Ixus. They also offer HD video(which is far superior IMO) and the ability to take good stills.

  • so far i have been happy with my cl65. however, i have noticed that the focus gets lazy in movie mode when i zoom in on things. anything closer than about 5 feet, it wont focus in zoom mode. from 5 to 10 feet, it can zoom about half way and still keep focused. from 10 feet or more i can zoom in all the way and still keep the focus.

  • yes, zooming and focusing is a complicated thing :)) .. i have also noticed that although it can focus clearly very close to the lens prior to taking a movie, after moving away and refocusing, it is not as crisp.

either way, i have noticed the same with other pocket camcorders with zoom at this price range and size .. and probably that's why many pocket video recorders just stick to fixed lens and digital or no zoom.

  • i owned a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 and i found it to be a very good camera for focusing on close things during movie mode.

i still like the CL65 the most though because the ZS3 cannot pause and then resume recording while still in one single clip. i find that i use the pause/resume recording feature quite often.

  • See my other video (same location) for regular light conditions (w/o the high contrast) where the Vado performs better.
