  • Well Minnesota did, as you know and although this video is very old.

  • @blaknoizee Yes it's all a bunch of hullaballoo that doesn't need to happen. If you live there, I feel bad for you.

  • @lisasimpson Nope, I now live in Georgia, since my company I work for decided to relocate its world headquarters from Ohio to GA. UGH! IDK why we dont understand that a tax increase is useful for all, when necessary, or why our President (and all the others involved) cant seem to understand how to manage a country for the people. Our generation is going to get all the BS from these older folks narrow assed minds. I'd rant, but then I'd sound stupid, because I'm very upset about all this.

  • @blaknoizee Oooh I'm from Ohio. Another wacky state, eh? My advice is take a deep breath or five and think about daisies and sunshine and puppies for a bit. We are so powerless to change things, at least in the immediate, so don't fret too much!!

  • @lisasimpson I'ma fret, because it's nonsense! And I personally like Ohio, since I've lived in KY, NJ, GA. But my ultimate locale is to be a NH resident. Live Free or Die baby!

  • Michigan is a dead state.

  • You idiots voted for Granholm you get what you deserve!

  • I didnt vote for her, But your right!! we're doomed... :-\

  • Nop boozeeings NOOOESSSSS :(

  • Vote Democrat. Green energy, new transportation technologies, tech to improve plant emissions. All mean new manufacturing jobs.

  • Wow, what the deuce? I didn't hear anything about this when it happened. Don't know why. Even if it was only for a few hours, the fact that the whole state was shutting down is scary as hell.

And you think Michigan drivers are bad? Come to Wilmington...if you dare...

Seriously, everyone thinks it's frackin' Nascar here.

  • as much as it pains me.. I'm being left with no other choice but to leave the state... Michigan was home, but it seems Heir Granholm, and stunts like this one are only gonna multiply. The once manufacturing capital of the world is gone, and it's a damn shame. There was a time when you could have anything in the world made within 45 minutes of the intersection of I-75 and I-696... I still dont know what the Hell happened... and I'm sorry to have to leave...

  • I may be right behind you. Me and my wife both got laid off, there's no jobs here. We are looking to leave before our savings runs out. Hopefully we can find work in the SW.

  • @RayAir1 If you havent left yet, don't count out NH (in total seriousness) do a bit of research on the state. U will be surprised.

  • recall jennifer granholm vote huckabee

  • alchohal is not important anyway people got to get off that stuff, well i live im michigan im doing fine :)

  • I live in Michigan and I hadn't even noticed this. lol I only read/watch national news and I live in a resort area that thrives regardless of the state economy. Well thank God they got it sorted out!

    Peace

  • dude its bad Mr. grand traverse michigan

  • Those in charge who are responsible for surplus spending and non-conservation of funds during economic hard times should be strung up by their nuts to make examples these political gangsters. We have the same problem in Jersey but no one seems to care.

  • PS love the t-shirt, very cool

  • Lol yea its pretty creative.

  • OMG its economic meltdown, I hope they can salvage it before a total shutdown, starting an economy is like starting a cold reactor. Thousands of people will be effected. it will be like eire during the 80's.

  • No police?? I'll load my guns fill the trunk with beer and be up there soon :)

  • Politicians. It's like having monkeys run our government. Wait, that was an insult to monkeys. Sorry.

  • your facts are worg

  • but but but that's like closing heaven ! how could they ! :)

  • we had a SURPLUS of money before Granholm got in.

  • This is one of the CRAZYIEST things I've ever heard ... EVER!!

  • It's not like were the only state that came close to a shut down. New Jersey had a WEEK LONG shutdown last year! Look it up and look up the history of Michigan, we are THE AUTOMOTIVE capital! If GM, FORD AND CHRYSLER are challenged then so are we.

  • <3 <3 <3 <3 OMG its lisasimpson <3 <3 <3 <3

  • usa

  • michigan? is that in canada?

  • I am from Michigan and no offense taken; Michigan is a socialist state. This whole event was a joke. Most people don't even know what "services" the state is providing. The Governor wanted her income and sales tax increase. The governor chose which programs to suspend during this impasse. Cigarettes and liquor? The state has successfully inserted itself in every transaction in everyday life and it's unacceptable. Plus, Michigan reps in DC are ineffective at returning our Federal Tax dollars.

  • The sales tax has been 6% for at least the past 10 years. They introduced a 6% service tax and a one percent increase in state income tax.

The history? Engler (the previous MI Governor) cut taxes or 30 times totaling $20 BILLION dollars of lost state revenue - compound that with increased competition in the auto industry, and the result is Michigan's economy.

  • thats nuts, I've never heard of a state shutting down. I hope this isn't a precursor to a more widespread problem.

  • That is weird about Michigan shutting down. Raising taxes does not mean it is the end of the world. Alrighy then.

  • rock on michigan....

  • You won't miss it.

    Mike was here.

  • About five or so years ago, the FEDERAL Government shut down, because they couldn't agree either. They did close all the Federal state parks. It lasted a few days.

  • come to canada, becca. 6% government sales tax, the right to free universal healthcare, and we drive not so bad. i have a futon if you

  • I think you got it with the 'having people be ok with raising taxes'.

  • Wow, 6 percent state sales tax. It's just 8.25 here in Texas. Of course we don't have that pesky state income tax though. So it probables equals out, huh? Well, except we're not closing our state. No state police. Well it's probably a good thing you can own a gun to protect yourselves.

  • Y'all must be a blue state.

  • I know that is serious but it's so funny "okay Michigan shut down all engines repeat shut down all engines" WTF? never heard diddley about it on UK news, strange so very strange >:(

  • wow. that's bizarre and scary.

  • geezzzz, i watch alot of news, and i didnt hear of any of this going on,, thx for the info,, and get while you can...next will be the gas stations,, oh wait, nevermind,, they are making a killin...lol

  • Remind me to never move to Michigan. I hope the state gets its act together soon.

  • 2 links over there -----> are down..

Just an FYI --- Hope you can get the hell out of michigan soon. I love it in Mississippi.

    Yea, I said it..

  • Gosh, Beccah, if it weren't for you, I would be clueless. Thank you, I guess. I am sure some of those big Ford execs will have to reach deep into their corporate pockets to undo the mess they helped to create, huh? I'm coming for a visit this weekend. Should be interesting by then.

  • I hate Michigan.

  • You have a dog name fatty...?? That's so cute!

  • cool shirt

  • This is crazy stuff Beccah, I hadn't heard of this, considering I am 2 hours from the border you think I would of, guess I've been out of the loop lately. I'm gonna flick on the Detroit news and get up to date. I hope everything works out, Be well, Tom.

  • That is crazy... I've never heard of a state shutting down.

  • Holy shit. This is actually true! Could this be the first of many states? Is this the start of another great depression? TAKE NOTICE: This is a direct effect of outsourcing. This is a direct effect of Big Money influencing politics.

  • Are you sure this is really happening? The BBC has no mention of this on their site.

Is this some kind of strange April Fools joke that you just couldn't sit on for six months?

  • I've never heard of anything like this. Do residents have to leave their homes? Do county hospitals shut down? Does the state break up and surrounding states adapt the land and residents? Wow. I'll have to read up on this.

Oh, btw. I quit smkoing. 3 days free now. Go J.R. =)

  • I used to live in Brighton Michigan but moved away about 5 years ago. When I lived there before the government shut down for a couple days but nothing really closed. I still went to school and cops still issued tickets.

  • Unfortunately it's much worse this time. Michigan needs to lay off the auto industry and work on bringing tech jobs in. They also need to cut many of their social services. You should be kind of excited though... this is the closest we're going to get to anarchy (not the pipe-bomb throwing kind so don't worry too much).

  • My initial thoughts were that it'd be a good time for an anti-war rally but by the sound of them revoking access to state property, it'd probably just end with a bunch of people pleading with Blackwater to not taze them... bro.

  • lol

It'd be a good experiment for sure. The million-dollar question is, does the Michigan government have enough money to pay blackwater? :D

  • WOW..... and i was thinkning about taking a trip back home..... not happening, lol

  • Home? Are you from Michigan?

  • yessum..... chesaning! :)

  • w..w.. what the F&%! I dont understand how this can be possible. And why isn't the Federal gvmt. stepping in to help? how can they allow sumthing like medicare or police to be unavailable. I am speechless

  • Well, at least the local police are still in force and supposedly doctors will be reimbursed when the shutdown is over. But still!!

  • ahh k, still not good. 1 good thing tho, if u can speed without getting caught then it shouldn't take long to get outta michigan

  • I LOVE YOUR SHIRT!!!

(*and I'm very glad I don't live in Michigan*)

    ♥NIkki

  • Aww, thanks!! It's my FAVORITE YouTube tee!!

  • So so glad I'm not a Michigandan right now. No taxation without representation; what a good job you're all doing with our former colony. How proud you must be making the Founding Fathers.

    *sarcasm off*

  • Are you proud of me for reals? Thanks so much, sweets!

  • Honestly, how does a state government shut down??

  • Well, believe it or not, they have set up an entire procedure just for that. Go to michigan dot gov and see for yourself!!

  • I'm not one of the Founding Fathers so can't comment on that. I think it's screwed that money comes into so much. Hopefully you'll get through this crisis safely.

  • and I should have watched the [ENTIRE VIDEO] before stating that :p

  • I just heard that they were just increasing the tax ._. damn that woman!

  • It doesn't seem like they are doing much to decrease spending, huh.

  • Hey, Mikma. Did you see this crap? What in the world?!?!?

  • This happened in the state I live in a few years ago. Honestly/luckily, on a personal level, the only way it directly affected me was that I could not get lottery tickets (which may have been a good thing). The shutdown will probably be brief. It's more of a pressure tactic.

  • I hope its super-short. I like scratch-off tickets, I wonder if stores are allowed to sell what they have?? lol

It's funny how we always want what we can't have!

  • I like the scratch offs too. And I can tell you that they will NOT sell you anything, even the ones they have in stock. It will be a complete freeze until the state is back up and running.

  • Grr!! I wanna play lotto NOW!! haha

  • dreaming is cool.

  • wow.. weird.

    hi lisasimpson, what's up?

  • Hey Nik! Yea, I didn't think I would need to make this video, but here it is. :(

  • Ohhh becca. I have some room left in my 2,25 room appartment here in austria - we have all that and even more. and I am dead serious! ):

  • Do you like dogs? lol

  • if they don't try to eat my tom-cat: yes (:

  • ack. hope my letter gets there before the rebels attack.

  • Luckily, the post office is federal. *phew*

  • Oh damn.. I already sent it out Pony Express style!

  • I've seen it before at both the state and the federal level. It's how the executive branch puts pressure on the legislative branch...make the people suffer until they fix it, and the government really does save a few bucks because the employees never do get paid for those days they were sent home.

  • I feel so bad for the state workers who are temporarily laid off because of this. I feel even worse for the residents who will be needing services that they can't get.

  • wow, I had no idea about the problems there. Thanks to your video, I am better informed today.

  • You are welcome, Bob!!

Yeah, Michigan is a disaster right now. It sucks.

  • And thanks for the links in the descrption. Good to know that prisoners will be kept in jail! (But I think the doggies and kitties in animal jail should be set free)

  • Know what state needs to shut down?? uh.. none of em... but yeah I just barely stopped myself from likely offending residents in one of two states.. WOW beccah WOW... sounds like that governator aint standing in a hot place for re-election

  • Haha Matt!!

Yeah, I don't know what's going on upstairs but it's gonna cause some MASSIVE chaos if they don't fix it fast!

  • RUN GIRL! RUUUUN! that's messed up...

  • You gonna let me and my pup crash your couch? lol

  • ive never heard of a state shutting down

  • Me neither. It's so strange.

  • so this never happened before? it is strange, but from that list you read at the end, it seems like it's a "regulated" thing, like there was a law that said "in case there's no budget, the state shuts down and this is what you have to do". like they actually thought about it and legislated it.

  • Haha, I got all that info from the state's website!!

  • wow, thats crazy! michigan shuting down, weird!

haha love the shirt, tv made into youtube. .clever

  • Yeah, it's nuts!! So many services aren't available to Michiganders now. It's really shut down.

    I can hardly believe it.

  • Indiana is in about the same boat and is in a tax crisis raising propery taxes and income taxes so far they havnt mentioned sales tax.

  • It's so crazy, I don't know why they weren't working on this issue earlier, why they waited till the last minute to attempt to fix this problem.

  • that is crazy...

I have family in the detroit area...they aren't going to be very happy about the whole 'no alcohol' thing... :P

I am sure it will get worked out before total chaos ensues...

  • Well it looks like they are breaking for the night with not much accomplished. And people aren't supposed to report for work tomorrow. :(

  • nobody??...or just government workers?

  • Oh, just 35,000 state employees.

  • yeah...that is quite a few people...hopefully it will just be like a 3-day weekend...

  • absolutely shocking...

  • I feel like I'm dreaming, sort of.

  • oh right, wasn't there a bunch of 'the west wing' episodes where they don't have a budget so they 'shut down' the government? I thought it was a pretty lame plot device at the time I watched them, but I guess it could happen in real life.. should be fun to watch if you don't live there..

their economy can't be that bad tho.. don't they build all the cars there?

  • I don't watch West Wing, but it's actually playing out in Michigan right now!!

Yes, we build a lot of cars, but the car companies are losing a LOT of money right now. And a lot of other industries are pulling out of Michigan with not a lot of jobs coming back in. Worst unemployment rate in the nation! :(

  • wow, craziness.

  • Dude, you are telling me!

  • I don't even know... How the hell does a state just CLOSE...? I've never heard of anything like this...

  • Me neither. I wonder if I can go 120mph down the highway now, lol

  • oh hell, NY State does that every couple of years...our state gov't can't pass a budget on time to save their souls. Looks like MI is joining the "our state sucks too" club...enjoy the chaos, drive really fast and don't pick your dog's poop! Rock ON!

  • How long does it usually last? People are not supposed to go to work tomorrow!!

  • Can they fucking do that?

  • I guess they can, I guess they can. It's happening right now in front of my eyes. :(

  • This is some kinda of crazy world.

    I can't believe that, AAAAAAAAH!!!.

    so sorry. U_U

  • ^___^

I'm glad to have found yah!

    awesome video LISA SIMPSON!

  • Aww thanks Chrispy!
