In this race, the swiss driver Clay Regazzoni sets the Formula1 record lap to an amacing 7:06.4 with an average speed of 192.8 kph. One Lap was 22,835km. Nobody could beat this record in a F1 car.
@thehistorywatcher the truth is its even sicker now a days in the name of safety, one move allowed, blah blah blah...those days drivers had Balls of steel and that's they were so special that's why they are called legends. Modern day F1 any one can race if you have the money.
@pummyy You have it backwards. Back then, anyone can race if they had the money. They could just buy a car and engine and 90% of the job is done. Now, you have to have money AND talent to go far. Also, it takes balls to drive ANYTHING on the limit. Why pretend like today's drivers are pussies and that anyone can do what they do? That's foolish. A number of drivers in F1 today started racing when F1 was more dangerous than now, but that didn't stop them from continuing their careers.
Hard to believe they made awesome races like this one back in the days.. The safety issue was almost null, lol. Great stuff. I bet the racing days back on that race must have been great ( I mean also at the spectatctors level).
Maybe when bernie ecclestone is succesfully assisinated along with the healt abnd saftey nut jobs, we could get this track back. NOt in my lifetime i reckon
@dalmaximus you're against safety on todays cars? Maybe... but if we had rules like the ones we have these days back in 1994, guys like Ayrton Senna were still around :(
the order as of 5:55 (lap 7) : Lauda (leading), Depailler (not for long) Regazzoni, Reutemann, Hunt, Scheckter, Jarier. btw, this is the last time we see Scheckter as he crashed on the next lap.
Gracias! desde uruguay, hermosos recuerdos, Regazzoni, Lauda, Depailler, Scheckter...Reutemann, Pace, Stommelen, Hunt!!. Que pilotos!!!

Depailler was giving Lauda a big fight there, such a shame he ran into problems.

Glad it's safer now. Back in the 60s and 70s two or three F1 drivers died each year. It was sickening.

@pummyy I'm not all about modern racing either, but, having balls of steel has nothing to do with racing in my opinion

Fuck the cars of the 70's sounded amazing. Best engine notes of any era in F1, just shading the turbo era of the 80's.
