  • you dirty fucker

  • Of course, this wasn't the end of John Lydon in infamous interviews, he had some classic moments with his other band, Public Image Limited

  • THE PERFECT CONFRONTATION!

At the time (remember LIVE TV) this was a big deal.

Bill Grundy was GREAT, not at all a fool - he had a brilliant, ironic style, and could deal with politicians and the like simply because he was smarter than them.

On this occasion, thankfully, he (sort of) lost it. The result - an unforgettably revealing insight into the actuality of that time.

Thatcher arrived in '79 and the Pistols went to Heaven (jk).

  • I used to think these guys were cool, now I just see a bunch of young crackheads trying way too hard to use cuss words and say nonsensical rambling shit as often as possible for no other reason than to appear strange, not because they really were strange

  • Steve Jones's shirt has titties on it.

  • The moment when the Pistols realised the Establishment was far dirtier than them - their impeccably-respectable host turns out to be a sleazy, lecherous, alcoholic.

  • what silly foul mouthed kids they look like now looking back on it.. i saw it live on tv when i was 11.. just thought they looked nasty...i got one like that now in his bedroom!..a moody teenager..awful!lol!

  • I fackin' saw this fackin' programm when it was on the fackin' telly didn't I....lacky fackin' me ey?

  • OMG its like lookin back in time and seeing what a total knobed s they were ,fuckin childish pricks set up by mclaren what tits

  • @TheLatchford How would you have handled your first TV interview if you were being wound up by the interviewer, You F**cking rotter?

  • great interview

  • YOU DIRTY OLD MAN

  • And there He was, Paul Cook, not giving a single fuck.

  • i like the fastidious disgust with which john lydon pronounces the word "drunk" when describing grundy. a bit unfair, considering the pistols were, by their own admission speeding off their heads. still, grundy was being a cunt.

  • Had he been sober it would have registered in his brain " we've fuckin' spent it ain't we ". It clearly didn't click with Grundy at that point?

  • It's a myth that this was a seminal 'punk' moment. As someone who grew up in seventies Britain, Steve Jones bravado is more akin to a seventies hooligan, a boot boy, a 24 carat yobbo than a punk. Look at the punks in the background, all sheepish, coy or quiet. Rotten muttering nervously under his breath. No! The earthquake that followed was created not by some ponced up art students and poseurs but by the uncouth yob in their midst.

  • @NuttersForFraggle Certainly not: I was being 'ironic' and 'postmodern'.

  • 2:30 wtf is that o_O

  • @avadude3 Malcolm McLaren behind a mask - from the introduction of the mockumentary The Great Rock'n Roll Swindle

  • It's high time that the surviving 'cast members' were reassembled to recreate this important piece of media history. The placement of key characters within an accurate studio reconstruction of the 1976 setting should be refilmed, with stimulating discussion of the events afterwards. Bill Grundy is unavailable, but a Tory MP or Brian Sewell could be brought in to take his place. The views from Lydon, Sioux, Jones, Matlock, Severin and the others in 2011 on this subject would make riveting TV.

  • you just can`t over-emphasise how this one interview changed the face of music in Britain for ever. I was 17 at the time; I came home from my tedious job, had my boring meal and plonked myself down in front of the tv for another night of rubbish tv. No-one EVER swore on tv, and as I watched the whole thing unravel in front of my eyes I was deeply impressed. These were just a bunch of drunk kids playing up to a rubbish presenter (who never worked again). I loved it.

  • This interview clarifies their idiocy. They were affected and just needed to grow up.

  • @MrZygoticmynci Pissed kids, shitting themselves cos it's their first time on TV being wound up by a dickhead looking to make them look like yobs.

Worked a treat all round....except for poor Grundy.

His career went down faster than Nancy in a crack house.

  • btw, matlock is really cute in this video :3

  • You don't mess with Siouxsie, motherfucker

  • The group might not have been making alot of money , the record companies were.

  • Ah yes 1976 long before the pretenders and mimics came to light

  • Who's that guy in the back with the Nazi symbol? Was that common at the time? You could praise nazi but couldn't say shit? Strange times!

  • @chicobrou it was ironic

  • Bill Grundy was clearly playing up to them

  • Rotten should have gotten his boney ass out and done a steaming great turd right in Grundy's face------it would have been hilarious! [if not for Grundy].

  • @rabsmiff:We can see now, what kinda bastards parts of the media were+are+when having to watch the "show" of the Murdoch father+son broadcast on our German TV evening news, i wish British parliamentary investigation committees had more rights to punish such assholes like the Murdochs, who are just a greedy new-rich illiterate family with the "behaviour"of the scum where they come from.

I am "sorry for your loss" of News Of The World" in Britain and hope this will be a warning to other tabloids.

  • "The nice clean Rolling Stones?"

When were they nice and clean back then? lol

  • Bill Grundy you fucking rotter, the Rolling Stones were never nice or clean.

  • Comment removed

  • @Useless2112 He's trying to be ironic but Grundy fails because he says " by comparison" and that's an incorrect statement. You should read up on some of Richards' antics, makes the Pistols look like clean cut lads.

  • Johnny Rotten is the man here! :D and Steve Jones is badass with his comment ;)

  • GLEN is cude!!! :D

  • Nice clean rolling stones WTF, obviously Grundy never met Keith Richards

  • @AirWarCrimewave He's being ironic.

  • Interesting to note....Bill Grundy never worked again....The Sex Pistols however still have one of the greatest and most influntial albums in history to their name!

  • Bill Grundy provoked them,he was patronising, arrogant and SHOULD have known better.

He got what he asked for.

  • what a fuckin' rotter ! xD

  • @IThinkMyNamesTooLong Robert Quine

  • What a bunch of pseudo arty-cool-I don't give a fuck but I look like a rude punk rocker-guys... The pistols were a fuckin' joke; a bad British version of Richard Hell & The Voidoids.

  • @johnniehell YOUR A PROPER PRICK

  • @fringecakeboy Exactly. You are so fuckin' wise!

  • @johnniehell man , do you have a brain ?...can you imagine what this interview meant at the time ?..what a fuckin' rotter !

  • @jino666able Yeah, It meant that something honest & original became stupid, fashionable & commercial because of those "rude punk kids". I love the bloody pistols, but they were just like The Monkees or the Troggs compared with Richard Hell, Johnny Thunders & the Heartbreakers, Wayne County, The Dictators or even Vic Godard & the Subway Sect... PiL was much better. Cheers cunt!

  • @johnniehell THE SEX PISTOLS never meant to make PUNK fashionable ,it just got out of control like most original things do. They were a perfect flip off to society and critics, I don't say it wasn't on purpose, but to compare them with THE MONKEES (corporate fake pop band) is just stupid :/

  • This band made one album, 30 minutes long. Influential perhaps, but they didn't last. How can you last if your emphasis is the art of being offensive. Dialog: "What if other people like Mozart and Beethoven" answer, "Well that's their tough shit." Meaning....what if other people like talent? Answer: (fill in the blank)

  • /watch?v=vKVEJHpFvrc&feature=channel_video_title

  • glen is so cute here

  • THEY ARE HEROES NOT THE NICE CLEAN ROLLING STONES(?)

  • haha pretty funny

  • @dddolllyyy John Lydon, Steve Jones, Glen Matlock and Paul Cook (front row.) Steve Severin (bassist Siouxsie and The Banshees, Simon Barker, Simone Thomas and Siouxsie Sioux (back row.) Bill Grundy, pissed in his chair.

  • @peaeater1 and malcom sitting in the back shitting himself

  • @GAREMPOTS Rubbing his hands with glee, more like.

  • He was terrified? Are you kidding me. Grundy could have taken five of these heroin addicts. I would have actually enjoyed seeing it.

  • the nice and clean rolling stones? so many things wrong with that statement, dont even know where to start, this guy was a fucking idiot

  • @LedZeppelin827 Grundy was joking.

  • @LedZeppelin827 I think he was referring to the fact that the rolling stones originally wore suits, compared to the swastikas this group is blatantly garbed in.

  • @LedZeppelin827 he meant clean by comparason to the sex pistols

  • "They're wonderful people...yes...they really turn us on." hahahaha

  • whats with the nazi?

  • @mrHaller93 it's shocking. nothing political. they wanted to shock those old english WWII veterans.

  • @mrHaller93 its to try to get outrage

  • the end of grundy's career

  • what a fackin' rotta

  • sid snot and the rest of them facing up to grundy like anyone cared decontruction future susie sue no sensce of Amerivan Indians, they'd had several of 'em up against the walll somewn=here , once............apparently. They fired him after this

  • grundy was trolling the shit out of the sex pistols. this is great.

  • Funny thing is Bill Grundy did more for the Sex Pistols' popularity than anyone else

  • swastika in the background on t shirt arm lol

  • Check you all slagging of the fucking sex pistols without the sex pistols half the bands you see nowadays wouldnt have been formed. Ever heard of the clash? Yeah then you might not know no sex pistols no clash. ,And anyway Bill Grundy want very respectful eh.

  • Nice, clean rolling stones? WHAT? lol

  • Comment removed

  • @TheLagunaSunrise He was being sarcastic lol!

  • the pistols were acting their age, unlike bill.

  • 17 "Fackin rotters" have no fackin sense of humour.

  • it doesn't matter if you sell butter or what you sell, that is not selling out as a musician, making compromises musically for commercial benefit is!

  • just love it!!! so hilarious!!! you f.... bastard!!! lol

  • if sid viciuous was still alive he would be doing dancing with the stars of some shit like that. this only shows how fake the "punks" were.

  • These guys are a right bunch of wankers!

  • "hes like your dad init this geeza" lol

  • So do you think the old guy actually shagged the girl or what?

  • Respond to this video...

the interviewer seemed pissed off at the pistols to begin with. no wonder the band picked up on bills mood and gave him salt for salt. lucky he didnt get flattened by the blokes.bloody dirty old man.com

  • When the sex pistols sold out it crushed my soul.

  • How 'bout that shirt Steve Jones had on?

It had a pair of titties on it.

  • When Grundy says 'oh shit' - hilarious. Head in hand, probably knew that was the end of his career right there, poor bloke. They're being childish, sure, but he's stirring them so fair play.

  • You fuckin rotter...lol

  • 4 of the biggest bellends ive ever seen!!

  • Punk was created to tell the country that they were living in a shitehole and that popular music was bullshit.

  • lydons gone up his own arse 400 for a fucking book. fuck off.

  • Jones owns

  • Fucking love his face when he says "shit" hahahaha, makes me laugh everytime

  • i remember this on tv grundy asked for it loved the Pistols and Souxsie and the Banshies old memories

  • its a shame glen matlock left shortly after this, they just became a joke after the 1st and only proper album.

  • omg i love this when john swears and then they pretty much start goin all out

  • Sex Pistols are the real deal in punk, they knew what they stood for and they was rebellion as well, they believed in anarchy:)

btw that bill grundy is a fucking cunt, he is such an looser!! poor johnny rotten!!

  • @Darkangelrock92 You're an arse.

  • what awanker that interview guy was lol

  • so the sex pistol are nazi right so why are they hanging out with a black girl

  • @coach9087 the sex pistols are anything but nazi, they make fun of nazis with the swastikas

  • @DrivemetoNEWYORK

thank for clearing that up for me

    but it still not cool

  • @coach9087 there not, they just put a swazstica (cant spell it) on there arms because thier rather rebellious. in nazi germany, they would be sporting the british flag. or the star of David... but then again, there not jewish, nor being particually prosecuted :P

  • @coach9087 Bad Brains lead singer HR was known to be rocking a swastika t-shirt in a bunch of their shows. Google them and you will realise how far that symbol had come from its nazi roots when being used in punk rock.

  • The greatest punk band ever. Britain really does have the greatest bands.

  • i wonder wat vicous would of said

  • Damn i would a fuck Siouxsie , back then something nice like!!!!!

  • *sid wasn't in the band yet

  • Aid wasn't in the band yet. Rotten is not a sell out if you actually looked into to it he only did imade the butter ad to get money for the pil tour and he said that himself.

  • good times

  • He wasnt that bad bless him - just a product of a different generation -

  • wheres bill grundy now la la la

  • @mohhie Dead.

  • @MGVaughan1986 yea yea i know, i was just singing song by the Television Personalities la la la la

  • OMG! The guy in the red pants, is that Sid Vicious? Before he got addicted?:O

  • @MCRXoXoIeroWay no, this guy is glen matlock

  • @MCRXoXoIeroWay

    Glen Matlock

  • Am I the only one who thinks Steve is being kinda chivalrous?

  • Steve Jones is a funny fucker!

  • i know this video gave them a lot of problems, but this is punk rock and i adore it

  • Jonny Rotten can now be seen doing adverts for butter!Fuckin sell out!

  • only reason he did it is so he culd go on tour with pill so people like me tht actualy are intrested in the music can go see him coz he thinks live music is great

  • siousxie was hot!!!!!

  • lol at the black punk girl

  • @UncleHobbysHobbys Why lol? Does she HAVE to be Beyonce or something?

  • @jrmetmoi

nah I just thought it was pretty weird cause other girl had a nazi arm band.

  • clean rolling stones?

  • @skint0n0minted he said they're clean by comparison

  • nice clean rolling stones...thats like saying the nice accepting nazis lol

  • Rotten comes off like a pretentious tosser here - too scared to even say 'shit' audibly on live TV.

Jones completely steals the show - not an attractive personality, but at least he has enough integrity to just be himself

  • Who's the one sitting down that's second from the right?

  • @ffmcracdcftw glen matlock

  • fuckin right doggy that's good cake!

  • i love how grundy called the stones nice and clean while they probably took drugs we've never even found yet

  • @shockzrock

I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic.

  • @shockzrock Pssst - he's being ironic about the stones.

  • @shockzrock hahahahaha i love that comment

  • @shockzrock he said they're clean by comparison

  • @shockzrock yeah! wen were the stones ever nice & clean?

  • look like a fucking bunch of 12 year old delinquents talking back to their daddy...

  • @trooperJac It shouldn't be forgotten what it in inspired. Great stuff like Crass, came out of this declaration. If Rotten did not fully understand or grasp what Reid, Westwood and Maclaren were feeding him, then at least it got others to sit up. I agree, Rotten is tedious but for 5 minutes he had something. I love that 76 interview he did where he declares that he does not need a mansion in the south of France. As it turned out, he was thinking more about a mansion in LA!

  • @trooperJac You dirty bastard!

  • @trooperJac

The sex pistols huge sell out was disappointing, yeah, but you have to realize how revolutionary they were. Besides, their music was great.

  • @trooperJac

You've missed the point along with eleven other people. It seems like nothing to us now but this was the youth speaking out against social conformity in Britain. These boys re-purposed rock as an ideological weapon & they changed youth culture, especially in the music world so who gives a moo if he's selling butter!?

The ironic thing is, If it wasn't for them, you'd have still found something like this shocking!

  • @coopsacola Yeah I guess so - it looks tame by today's standards. It's easy to forget that things change.

I remember watching This is England, there's a scene where the young kids mother walks into the throng of the gang to tell them off and I'm thinking 'jeez she's gonna get killed here'. So what happened next surprised me but then I remembered youths were different back then.

Was it a change for the better though? Seems like most people are cunts nowadays!

  • @trooperJac

Well in the case of music I would definitely say so. There was so much cool stuff came from this band - the Manchester music movement for instance. Watch the film 24hour Party people, you'll see what I mean. I understand what your saying about the 'cunts' though but I don't think you can hold the sex pistols responsible, more to do with 'happy hardcore' I think!

  • @coopsacola

    Very well said

  • @coopsacola also, john lyndon spent all of the money into reforming PiL, another fantastic band

  • @coopsacola I felt that your comments were eloquent and quite true, but I'm especially impressed with your for coining the phrase, "Who gives a moo?" I'll have to use that one...

  • @trooperJac

They weren't hippies or Communists- they didn't "sell out" because they didn't have an ideology that was against making money for themselves. They had a product, they wanted to sell it through shock value. Only 1 person ever had said "fuck" on British TV before that point- Kenneth Tynan in 1965. The Sex Pistols said it three times in 3 minutes. They did what they wanted to do, which was for the times, very shocking.

Can you imagine this on American TV at a 6-7pm show in 1976?

  • grundy. more like grungy. he looked he was one fucking ignorant bastard who needed kicked in the face.

  • This is the best fucking moment in British TV, second to none. Bill Grundy deserved to have his sorry ass kicked by Steve for trying to hit onto Siouxsie. Fuck EMI Records for kicking them off the label after this interview, their loss - Virgin were laughing all the way to the bank but ironically they are now owned by EMI. Ahhh, to be in the music world..... :)

  • FUCk that brown girl is sooo ugly WTF were they thinking

  • @youarerude123 hmmm, wonder who she is?

  • Hail The Sex Pistols the real punks!!!

Not the fucking Ramones or Clash

  • @ThePENON i AGREE THAT tHE cLASH ISN'T REALLY PUNK, BUT tHE rAMONES INVENTED PUNK, tHE pISTOLS PERFECTED IT.

  • @classicrockhead1969 Dear, The Ramones where influenced by The Stooges & New York Dolls who where the precursors of Punk... Sex Pistols ruled, Ramones where more commercial!!

Fukk Ramones their music where funny and Punk is not supposed to be funny, is No Fun, antisocial, anarchist, angry, chaotic, anti establisment, decadent, no future...

  • @ThePENON not supposed to be funny? what are you joking? for one, sex pistols lyrics are often funny

  • @louiecostello yEAAAH!! I iagree, you 're right, you 're right, but anyway the Sex Pistols were "The Best"

  • @ThePENON nah man, you're confusing the sex pistols with the clash there

  • @louiecostello The Clash naaaaah Fukkin commercial Clash!!

  • @ThePENON nah nah, thats the sex pistols youre thinking of. although much of punk was a facade, totally fake. and that goes for the clash and the pistols, once you ignore the punk stuff you find the clash are a brilliant rock and roll band, and the sex pistols were.. well, nada.

  • @louiecostello Sorry but I don't want to talk more with traitors!! The Sex Pistols were unique and unparalleled, The Clash were ambiguous shit!!

  • @ThePENON traitors? hey man that hurts! ambiguous? so what. they dont owe anyone anything, they dont have to have a mission statement. and if anything could be classed as ambiguous it would be the shock tactics of the sex pistols. motives behind wearing a swastika anyone?

  • @louiecostello Hi there. Says on Siouxsie's wikipedia that she worn one once to shock the bourgeoisie.

  • @classicrockhead1969 Punk was actually started in 1963 by The Kingsmen with "Louie Louie", the first rock song to get banned by radio. The Sex Pistols simply made it cool and okay for pop kids to like in the UK in the 70's.

  • @fatpizzaman that music in the 60s was called punk, but it bears little relation to the punk from london in the 70s

  • This is a real punk band. Unlike green day and blink 182. Damn I hate those bands,

  • @cyborghana you're right. They are really a cariacature of what punk really was. Green Day have now turned into a daytime AOR band for those who like Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac and the Doobie Brothers.

  • Ha . Ha end of your career Mr Grundy !!!!!!!!

  • Steve Jones plays the up the "bad-boy" thing so perfectly in this. I love him.

  • Heh, nowadays on most talk shows, it's rarer to see no one utter the word fuck.
