Too much cute! My cats have a Drinkwell fountain to drink from, though they still demand the faucet or a bowl occasionally. I can't imagine what this Baby might do if faced with flowing water. Does she have any interest in the sink?
Probably from when she was a baby drinking mommy's milk, got used to have the protection of the leg over her so that's what she does. Just feels right. Maybe, I dunno.
This reminds me of how my mother always tells me not to drink from a water fountain or straight from the faucet because someone could come up behind me, bop me on the head, and knock my front teeth out. Maybe this cat's mother always told her the same thing.
this actually is a bit cleaver to do, let me explain: cats do have problem seeing the level of the water, so they use theyr feet, but if they use one of the frontal foots its so mutch pressure for the other frontal foot, so she found a way to eliminate the stress
@kubbur87 Yeah, but she really only started this recently. She didn't do this as a younger cat. Only since she moved in w/ 3 strange cats. I really thinks its a protective move.
Besides, with her rear leg int eh air, there is more pressure on her front feet.
@detoth67 It doesn't make sense unless she's lost much of her hearing, very common in older cats. With their excellent hearing and ability to contort their ears even more than their bodies, she'd be able to hear another cat approaching in plenty of time to defend the water, or, much more likely, leave to avoid conflict.
Covering her ears/head makes sense if she's lost a lot of hearing and feels defenseless with her head in the bowl, unable to see, and now unable to hear, anything approaching.
@MarlinBOSA She hasn't lost her hearing. We have another cat that has a bad habit of pushing other cats away from their bowls. She seems to be creating an impenetrable fortress.
what the fuck?!

@onekinkstar : She does not really have any interest in the sink at all... I suppose that's not too surprising given her drinking posture!

@kubbur87 So she's using reflection to guide her to the surface of the water. That makes sense... thanks for the insight!

@unstablejoker I'll try and catch her setting up, but it's kind of hard... as kitties go, she really likes her privacy. She's a sweetie, though!

@findeerror what a cute cat :D how about you set up your cam where she drinks and run the cam for a day. You might catch her setting up. gl
