Hamas has succeeded in cleaning up Gaza. They have shown that they are ready and able to govern. The problems that exist are due to the Israeli blockade. Impose a blockade on the U.S., Europe, Jewish territories, and see how successful their governments will be. You cut people off from their basic needs, and of course they will be frustrated. The problem is not Hamas. The problem is Israeli terrorism and illegal occupation.

I didn't say they have a right to nothing. At the very least they should withdraw to the '67 borders. HAMAS won't accept that because they're extremists but it's the Israeli occupation which is giving more and more support to the extremist point of view. Also the Israelis have never stopped building illegal settlements even during peace talks fundamentally proving they have no honest interest in resolving the conflict.

In addition -The reason why these impoverished and unskilled poeple need to cross the border through checkpoints and go through this ordeal IS BECAUSE OF THE BAD ONES. Not to mention, why are they not able to find or create their OWN jobs? I'm not talking about border checkpoints into Israel. I'm talking about the innumerable checkpoints within the occupied territories who's existance is to protect illegal settlers and their roads. All charitable funds have to go through Israel before they can get to the Palestinians and the Israelis have hundreds of millions of dollars which belongs to the Palestinians which they refuse to hand over. How do you create an economy when you are economically blockaded?

There are ways to launder and smuggle money so that the Israelis don't get it for the reasons you stated. Perhaps if the rockets and suicide attacks stopped the the Israelis would release the money.

You do realise these settlements are often built on Palestinian farmer's land? The settlers divert and steal the water supply and the IDF defends them. The Security Wall purposefully cuts into Palestinian farmland for the same effect. Palestinian fishermen can't even go out and fish without being shot at.

Recruitment would be more a by-product of this bombing campaign than a HAMAS propaganda drive. The biggest thing they can do is for once deal honestly with the illegal settlements. The settlers are the biggest reason the IDF are in the occupied territories manning checkpoints, they're the reason Palestinians daily lives are a nightmare and they're one of the reasons HAMAS is no longer a small fringe group.

So from what I gather you would favor peace if possible? But which settlements on which territories? Building inside the green line of 1947 borders is OK by ANY standard. The Westbank has not been agreed on -but as you have seen with GAZA The Israelis are good for their word when it comes to a withdrawl. But where you and I dissagree, I think is the reason for the checkpoints. I think they are needed and will allways be needed so long as Palestinians pre-emptively are taught a certain ideoligy.

BTY Hamas started this time by launching 50 or so Kassams into a civilian area. Re: Clusterbombs, and large ordinance -it's a tactical decision to use these weapons so when there are boots on the ground Thier casualties will be reduced.Here is an idea:stop suicide attacks and kassams and ALL the killing stops.

Denying the entire population of Gaza vital food and medical supplies as a form of collective punishment. That they finally allow the trucks in but only after they start bombing is a sad irony. Your idea is a good one, that's probably why HAMAS adopted it. It ended with Israel opening fire on Gazan fishermen and killing HAMAS members on Nov5th.

I don't know enough about weapons, I just remeber they have been criticized for using cluster bombs too. Personally I don't completely understand about holding off food and meds -either, while at this point I wish to see Hamas ended for good. I think The tactic of offering food and help did well for Hezbollah, perhaps if in the middle of the fighting Israel could also drop aid packages for the civilians -but then who would get their hands on it first?
