@stllopez314 I agree that in football you can dig in, but you can also do that in hockey to an extent, although not as much. But, in football, you know when your gonna get hit so you brace for it and the collisions aren't as big, plus the biggest difference is that in hockey when you hit youre going way faster than in football so the hits are much harder. And elbow pads in hockey allow you to truck kids too, unlike football.

I will give you this: more concussions are in football because the head is way more involved in physical contact. But to say that the skates take away from inertia of the hit is preposterous. In addition, the player here gets hit twice. Second with the original hit, second is the head contact with the ICE- not grass. Other aspects of both games also factor in final damage. Please, don't be ridiculous.

Instant K.O. Brain damage. Open ice hit should be removed from youth hockey. It is great for fans but terrible for the recipient of such devastation. A fist cannot deliver such instant shock to a body as what you can see on that clip First of all, hitters at this age usually NEVER deliver clean hit; but in any instance, this rule in youth hockey is nothing but criminal behavior by USA Hockey!!!!!!!!!!!

Former athlete, bodybuilder, and took my share of beatings and hard hits or what have you. I am not saying that kids should not be exposed to any hitting, just to no OPEN ICE hitting because I know first hand what those can do to young body. I saw young talents destined to go pro to never fully recover from such hits. I know what I am talking about, son.

I'll be honest and admit that when I tried out for AAA(didn't make it) I was tanked worse than this open ice and everything, and the puck slid into the corner. I got up right away and chased the guy down and ended up scoring. It really isn't that bad. Your vision is a bit blurry, and thats it. No pain.
