It is strangely difficult (or even impossible) to find any information about tomahawks really having been used during the Vietnam war. If you google it, all you get is info on the "Vietnam Hawks" that are sold since 2001 or so, but I could not find any historical information. I didn't even find a single picture of a soldier in Vietnam holding or carrying a tomahawk. Could it be the whole thing is just a myth? Does anybody here have hard historical facts?
I have 2 in my collection one is from vietnam that my uncle carried and the other was bought from cold steel for personal protection in coyote country.
I have this tomahawk and like it very much.If people got problems with the grip.Put some 'hockeytape'or that leather stuff what's on tennis rackets around it.Many ways to solve it if you find the grip to slick. For me the grip is just fine.I'll pump the sharp tip into anything sans une problem .Don't underestimate this kind of tomahawk(uhm, video speaks for itself).Read about Low Dog .This guy killed two men in battle being only 14.He never went anywhere without his tomahawk..Great stuff
So how is the m48 compared to this for throwing, chopping, camping, hiking, pretty much everything? I would go for trail head cause i has blunt hammer, but it's too heavy.
@serpentinear86 Already exists, its called the Lagana Vietnam Tactical Hawk.......Made by the same company that makes these Hawks for cold steel (The American Tomahawk Company) only the quality on the Lagana is 50 times better
i own the cold steel trench hawk and i love it but it could really use some kind of grip, out in the woods in the weather it tends to get a little slippery. you should consider making a replacement handle with some kind of grip am sure others who own the trench hawk would say the same.
O__O the part with the car door...i dont think you need that...serial killers usually think when a person gets in a car they should give up...showing them this..bad idea maybe?
cs thank you so much for making the Trench Hawk. I owned the Sog fusion and it was made out of shitty stainless steel. I want to take a moment that although the fusion series looks cool it is complete crap! the fusion series can not hold up to camp chores. The fusion hawk while chopping wood (I use mine as a backpacking ax bc it is lightweight chips, dulls and has to be re profiled! The spring steel used in your knives and hawks delivers and I buy them up because your steel performs.
if this hawk had a longer and better grip, with some sort of molle compatable kydex sheath i would buy 4!, 2 for my cousin and brother in law serving in the sand box, and 2 for me!
in the gladiator vs apache episode of the deadliest warrior one of the apache experts was talkig about the tomahawk as a weapon, and mentioned how it's still used today by special forces, he pulled out a vietnam tomahawk replica, now i don't know if it was cold steel but it was a replica. can't wait to try the trench one they just came out with. i have this one, and i love it
The fact that the handle is relatively short, making the tomahawk compact while not too small is the best feature about the Vietnam Hawk, in my opinion.
Nice toy...but I'd take a heavy machete over this any day. I spend time in the bush and don't see this being anywhere near as useful as a Martindale machete, but I may get one and see for myself.
these really are beasts....took mine to Iraq with me and also at home used it to change a tire. Guy who had the car before me had the tire put on by a jackass who over did it and messed up the chrome bolt covers. Had to hack the shit out of them to be able to get that flat tire off and get home.
Hard to find any knife as tough as these relatively cheap 'hawks.
I'm going to have my own handle custom grooved slightly for some extra grip & looks. I went from selling the SOG to selling the Cold Steel now.I like the drop forged steel & simple design better that would be easier to repair the shaft if it ever get's damaged..
@MrBobsrevenge put molten steel in a mold and drop a hammer on it to form to the mold, like a blacksmith beating peace of steel only big machine does it with one slam
I can do that with my screwdriver!

I was just saying, I did the same thing. Added some Bat tape. I like it better.
kevo1264 2 years ago

kaizoebara 2 years ago
Cold steel should consider these recomendations for this Item.
Make the handle 4 inches longer.
Make a model out of synthetic 'bendable' material such as there baseball bats.
Keep the price tag under 70 bucks.
Add combat grip rings.
Incorparate a Quick detatch molle compatable sheath. Make the sheath combat rugged.
Keep the price tag under 70 bucks.
This would fly off the shelves like candy bars.

How is the Blade held on the handle?
Gibbsrulz 3 years ago
The handle is made of American Hickory and the blade is held on in the same manner as our other tomahawks.

They should put a grip on it. I noticed how it slipped out of his hand whilst hitting the drum of water.

You could put some bicycle tubing around the handle for a better grip.
