Saw Monsters of Rock at Tampa Stadium and Rice Stadium in 88'. Dokkens equipment messed up both shows. Also saw Dokken with Priest in 86', Dokkens amps messed up
M C M Makin Cash Money. was there at the Orange Bowl Miami. Eventually got down to the ground level and hooked up w/ a dozen friends on and off. The fire department was spraying water around, when Dokken came on it started raining...Don and George got into a semi-fight while performing....Heard Van Haggar---But Definately heard Eruption.
I went to see this concert also in 1988 at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin. The absolute best concert I had ever been too, although Queensryche Operation Mindcrime tour was awesome too.
All 5 bands sounded like a CD which just came out in 1988 1989 era...all 5 bands were that good, George Lynch from Dokken shredding Mr. Scary has got to be one of my best teenage memories I tell ya!!!!
Those were some good good ole days, I miss the 80s and 90s!!! Good times when music had cha
@loooooooo65432 they sold more T-shirts than the other bands on that tour and the tour was over by late Aug Justice came out late Sept, then the Damaged Justice Tour started 88-89
Haha, I have this commercial on tape from back in the day- except I started the tape late so my version doesn't come in until 0:07! Was great seeing it again, thanks.
@banj0999 I WS ALIVE BACK THEN!!!!! i saw this show in the old sullivan stadium in foxboro mass, i still remember the date, JUNE 12TH 1988!!!!!!!!!! it was a great show, with a little known openening act called METALLICA!! metallica taking the stage before DOKKEN??????????? IMAGINE THAT!!!!
Summer before my senior year. Saw a guy get beatdown for wearing a neon green Poisen concert shirt. J.F.K. Philly. Great day in life. This contest is great. VH, wine coolers, and caramello bars.
I went for the Scorpions, my favorite group then. Absolutely blown away by Metallica, my first time ever hearing them. I saw this in Orlando and I was 17.
My oldest brother went to this show at what was then known as Sullivan Stadium in Foxboro, MA and he had a kick ass time (I would have went but I was only 12 years old in 1988). As a consolation prize, he bought me a cool shirt that night that had Godzilla with a guitar and the VH logo and the other bands on the back. He told me The Scorpions and Metallica gave each other a run for the money. Van Halen were great and Dokken were not bad. Also, Kingdom Come no showed so Metallica played longer.
Me too!! I thought I had lost my Metallica shirt I bought that day. About 2 years ago I went home for the holidays and slept in my old room i grew up in. low and behold what did I find stuffed in the dresser.... My shirt from the concert!!! man I was little back then, or I just got fat. Ha ha
I saw this at JFK stadium in Philly when I was 15. This was my first concert. I remember that I was so excited that I didn't sleep the night before. To me it was bigger than Woodstock. Metallica blew the place up. Dokken had the unfortunate job of going on after them, but they couldn't compete. Scorps played all of their hits. =VH= was my favorite band at the time and they didn't disappoint. 10 hours in the hot sun with crazy metal heads. Looking back on it, I'm surprised my parents let me go.
Saw this at the Pontiac Silverdome (Michigan) and the Scorpions did indeed ROCK the dome. I daresay they were the shining band overall, though Metallica was extremely pummeling but could have used a little more *umph* from Jason's bass. We actually thought Van Halen a little under-par and Kingdom Come... er, talk about picking Led Zeppelin's corpse JEEEZ !
my dad went that year. he said metallica played like 1 song and left. he went 1 day and didnt come back. i think the only reason he went is to see ac/dc and van halen.
I wish I could have entered this and the Pink Floyd contest that they had where you got to Learn to Fly with Pink Floyd. Around 1994 was when MTV was starting to die.I then stopped watching after 1996 when the original Van Halen and KISS reunited at the Video Music Awards that year. I miss the real music.
I wonder if the bands talked to each other much before each show... Would be interesting to watch a conversation between them. A video with Kirk Hammett talking to Eddie Van Halen would be pretty epic in my opinion.

Akron Rubber bowl. Metallica ruled. This tour was their coming out party. Man, LA Gear and wine coolers. I don't feel too old now :). Ah, back when MTV played videos.
Saw the MOR show at Candlestick in S.F. I got to 3rd row when the lights go out and I hear a whammy bar followed by Summer Nights blazing. I was 3rd row when I see Eddie Van Halen infront of me. Seriously I just went numb,no bullshit, it was amazing to see my idiol right there playing. He had on Blue sweats, black tank top,I could almost smell the Budweiser of the dudes breath,LOL.

The coke cup cloud started right before Dokken hit the stage. My thanx to the roadies with the firehoses or I wouldn't be here today...serious.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRR FUCK! I wish I was alive to see this, back then when MTV was cool, Metal and rock stars were treated like rap and pop stars, and when your parents had COOL hair!
I saw it at the Meadowlands. Best band at that show was the Scorpions IMO (and pretty much everyone I talked to). Metallica was pretty close. Dokken was friggin horrible - which killed me because I was really into Lynch at the time.
Something like this just makes me wonder, Is this just a publicity stunt? Did anyone actually get to go on that bus and do all those things? Did 100 runner ups actually recieve L.A. Gear sneakers? Or is all this just a publicity stunt MTV doesn't provide for and hopes no one finds out about it?
I went on the bus man, i had all the wine coolers candy bars and L.A gear you could possibly want (that is just one pair of sneakers because that brand sucked) I even got to do a groupy after lars, she was fat though... O_O
Hair metal sucks ass...A whole bunch of pussies playing easy rock. Metallica has much better music and more talent put into it.Scorpions do not deserve a spot in the rock of fame. Metallica does.
I was in Giants Stadium in New Jersey - I jumped the big blue wall to get down low and ROCKED out- it was an amazing day. Except for when my friend passed out (Scorpions were playing "Blackout") how ironic!!!

All this talk about Dokken the Scorpions and Metallica? UGGGGG!! Dokken and the scorps are "filler" bands. The kind of bands they play on the radio until a good band puts out an album. Metallica has relevance but only as far as they represented the transation to testosterone music which appeals only to young boys and grown trailer trash. Metallica is largely responsible for the total garbage music we have today.
Scorpions, Filler band?...are you fuckin crazy?...you must be too young to have seen the US festval in california in '83?...well i was there and the Scorpions kicked the shit out of every other band there!...look for the video here on youtube...Idiot!!

I actual felt bad saying that about the scorps because they are nice guys. I like them but they are not going down as a classic band on any-one's list. Metal is a category where they stick rock bands who can't write good songs. So right off the bat the bar is lowered. A good metal band was not good enough to make it in the real world so they invented a category for all of these bad rockers and called it metal. The scorps are a good metal band if that makes you feel better.
was at the Giants Stadium,East Rutherford,NJ show. One hot, long and crazy day and night.Metallica got the crowd going in this 95 degree blistering heat..Security was grabbing people who jumped the wall onto the field...it was nuts but loved every minute of it..
I was at the show in Akron, OH. It was great...and whoever said Dokken was bad...thanks for reminding me...I knew they sucked one of the times I saw them but I couldn't remember which! LOL, BTW, just saw them again at Rocklahoma 2007 and they were AWESOME!
i was at the philly show in 88 also, on the field about 50 feet from the stage.....dokken were preety bad...after there first song my friend shouted to don dokken..."GOOO HOOOME DOON!!!"....he had to have heard it.
other then that it was a great show. ahh the memories :)
I saw the Philly show-It was like everyone was there to see metallica-they opened with Harvester of Sorrow-as and justice for all hadent been released yet-What a great show-Dokken was good too believe it or not!
I was @ the L.A. Colesium for this, I had just turned 16. To this day that was one of the craziest, most electric shows I've ever been to. It was as if the entire crowd was there to see Metallica, none of the other bands got the response they did. I always loved seeing Metallica in L.A. back in the day! Fucking good times & great memories!
I went to the Houston show at Rice Satdium (July/88). I had seen 3 of the other bands, but not Metallica. Metallica opened with "Creeping Death" - Pure Destruction says it all. Good times...
DJKILOWATT I was there as well!!I saw them all that day.First REAL concert I ever went to.The HEAT was incredible as people were being drug out by stretchers from heat exaustion.Dokken's George Lynch was having all kinds of gear problems but they came back with In My Dreams and won the crowd back.Hagar went on and on about the Texas heat,Metallica was CRUSHING,Scorpions were great. Thanks for the cool flashback!
I was at the Los Angeles Memorial Colosseum, that was such an amazing show.
there was the worlds biggest food fight in the stands when Metallica came on stage it was bedlam L.a.p.d couldn't handle the metal lot's of heads were going to jail.
i was at the alpine valley show.metallica made the ground shake, rokken with dikken and the scorpions blew everyone away.but metallica was right there to.alpine valley is the best place to see concerts
Was at the Kansas City Concert at Arrowhead, Managed to get front and center for Kingdom Come, Scorpions, Dokken, And then Metallica... and paid the price because I was afraid to move from my spot till Metallica played, But being 15 feet from James Hatfield for the whole Metallica set was worth it !!!!!
I was at the Pittsburgh show. 16 years old, snuck into 3 rivers stadium. My buddy was selling frozen lemonades on the field and got me in. Ahhh. the memories. It was funny because the Scorpions couldnt speak English except for thier songs. This is when I officially became a Metallica fan.
i was at the show in L.A. when metallica played everyone in the stands tore down the fences and rushed the floor. freakin chaos man it was great.i was already in 13 th row, but it became a festival seating. metallica blew every one away
Is that Larry King Talking?!

Yeah, Metallica Destroyed on montsters of rock, saw it at Akron Rubber Bowl. This is what blew them up to the masses. Man, I miss those days.
abbieandus 4 years ago
yea those days it was fun going to concerts.
moose2cool 4 years ago
Something like this just makes me wonder, Is this just a publicity stunt? Did anyone actually get to go on that bus and do all those things? Did 100 runner ups actually recieve L.A. Gear sneakers? Or is all this just a publicity stunt MTV doesn't provide for and hopes no one finds out about it?
slashmaster2 4 years ago
I went on the bus man, i had all the wine coolers candy bars and L.A gear you could possibly want (that is just one pair of sneakers because that brand sucked) I even got to do a groupy after lars, she was fat though... O_O

Mettalica is overrated. It's just "crash, bang. Crash, bang". They haven't put out anything worth a damn since before '91.
hangntough 4 years ago
I wouldn't talk with a name like hangntough you probably like New Kids on the Block.
TheEd78 4 years ago
Does New Kids on the Block having something to do with hangntough? I wouldn't know, but I guess you would, Mr. Ed.

Hair metal sucks ass...A whole bunch of pussies playing easy rock. Metallica has much better music and more talent put into it.Scorpions do not deserve a spot in the rock of fame. Metallica does.
jazd3zums 4 years ago
Was at the Kansas City show and the Scorpions were the best of them all. Van Halen sucked.

Watthiman 4 years ago

Watthiman 4 years ago
just like assholes....everybodys got them!
derrico2 4 years ago
Ah you missed an important word in that saying.
Watthiman 4 years ago
Scorpions are the best rock band on earth, Metallica was never as good as them, and they will never be.
And at last many band's take a lot of inspiration from their stuff. (Van Halen, Smashing Pumpkins, and at last Metallica, too)
