  • Is that Larry King Talking?!

  • Saw this tour 2 nights in a row at Alpine Valley in East Troy Wisconsin back in 88. I'm still recovering.

  • Saw this at the LA Coliseum....left before Van Hagar came on.

  • Saw Monsters of Rock at Tampa Stadium and Rice Stadium in 88'. Dokkens equipment messed up both shows. Also saw Dokken with Priest in 86', Dokkens amps messed up

  • M C M Makin Cash Money. was there at the Orange Bowl Miami. Eventually got down to the ground level and hooked up w/ a dozen friends on and off. The fire department was spraying water around, when Dokken came on it started raining...Don and George got into a semi-fight while performing....Heard Van Haggar---But Definately heard Eruption.

  • I went to see this concert also in 1988 at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin. The absolute best concert I had ever been too, although Queensryche Operation Mindcrime tour was awesome too.

All 5 bands sounded like a CD which just came out in 1988 1989 era...all 5 bands were that good, George Lynch from Dokken shredding Mr. Scary has got to be one of my best teenage memories I tell ya!!!!

Those were some good good ole days, I miss the 80s and 90s!!! Good times when music had cha

  • @banj0999 I WS ALIVE BACK THEN!!!!! i saw this show in the old sullivan stadium in foxboro mass, i still remember the date, JUNE 12TH 1988!!!!!!!!!! it was a great show, with a little known openening act called METALLICA!! metallica taking the stage before DOKKEN??????????? IMAGINE THAT!!!!

  • fuck those years were awsome

  • That would've been an awesome experience.

  • "who cares if you can actually play the damn thing" hahahah

  • Summer before my senior year. Saw a guy get beatdown for wearing a neon green Poisen concert shirt. J.F.K. Philly. Great day in life. This contest is great. VH, wine coolers, and caramello bars.

  • OMG what a lineup, especially in those years!

  • I went to this show for Van Halen. They were great, but Metallica stole the show.

  • I went for the Scorpions, my favorite group then. Absolutely blown away by Metallica, my first time ever hearing them. I saw this in Orlando and I was 17.

  • this was the year...............the 80s and 90s!

lol infact this was when MTV was MTV

not playing hip hop,(C)rap, this was when it played VAN HALEN AND METALLICA!

  • SOOO LEGIT :D

  • wow, wine coolers, caremellos, and LA gears! Sign my ass up!!! LOL!

  • lol

i was 15 too, i went with 3 of my friends and somehow we got split up after metallica and didnt find eachother til after the concert

im suprised too my parents let me go

    it was a blast

  • who cares about the concert!?!..U GET A FREE PAIR OF LA GEAR!!!

  • My oldest brother went to this show at what was then known as Sullivan Stadium in Foxboro, MA and he had a kick ass time (I would have went but I was only 12 years old in 1988). As a consolation prize, he bought me a cool shirt that night that had Godzilla with a guitar and the VH logo and the other bands on the back. He told me The Scorpions and Metallica gave each other a run for the money. Van Halen were great and Dokken were not bad. Also, Kingdom Come no showed so Metallica played longer.

  • So, who won this gig? They're probably dead anyway...nevermind.

  • @maiden666guitar as I recall it was some chick. All she did was get up on stage and do a little dance.

  • that narrator sounded like Stan Lee of Marvel Comics fame. Agree?

  • Me too!! I thought I had lost my Metallica shirt I bought that day. About 2 years ago I went home for the holidays and slept in my old room i grew up in. low and behold what did I find stuffed in the dresser.... My shirt from the concert!!! man I was little back then, or I just got fat. Ha ha

  • I saw this at JFK stadium in Philly when I was 15. This was my first concert. I remember that I was so excited that I didn't sleep the night before. To me it was bigger than Woodstock. Metallica blew the place up. Dokken had the unfortunate job of going on after them, but they couldn't compete. Scorps played all of their hits. =VH= was my favorite band at the time and they didn't disappoint. 10 hours in the hot sun with crazy metal heads. Looking back on it, I'm surprised my parents let me go.

  • damn that was when mtv was MTV lol

  • Saw this at the Pontiac Silverdome (Michigan) and the Scorpions did indeed ROCK the dome. I daresay they were the shining band overall, though Metallica was extremely pummeling but could have used a little more *umph* from Jason's bass. We actually thought Van Halen a little under-par and Kingdom Come... er, talk about picking Led Zeppelin's corpse JEEEZ !

  • when MTV actually played music....and not the hip hop crap.

  • I was at the San Fran. show at Candlestick Park! All bands were pretty good, but then again, I was wasted.

  • Sorry bud, but the Scorpions f***ing rocked at this show! Dokken was good too, but George Lynch had serious sound problems.

  • I hope it isn't too late to enter

  • CRAMELLO BARS

  • my dad went that year. he said metallica played like 1 song and left. he went 1 day and didnt come back. i think the only reason he went is to see ac/dc and van halen.

  • Wait, he went to Monsters of Rock one day and never came back lol? What happened to him?

  • i dont remember why.

  • Well, I was there in D.C., and the festival was only one day, and AC/DC wasn't there.

  • L.A. high tops original for thrasers!

  • hHhhAHAHAHA TO MUCH

  • Wow that really brings back memories of of 1988. When I graduated from high school and went to the monsters of rock show. Thanks for the upload.

  • fuck yes all you can candy bars

  • I wonder who actually won that thing.

  • "all the Caramellos you can eat" lmao...wow...

Would have loved to see Dokken on the MoR tour!!!!

  • yeah i went to this show in buffalo ....i would have loved to won that contest...hell i was 18 and ready to party

  • Old school haha...

  • I remember watching this, they played this ad pretty often.

Sucked that i was 14 and couldn't win.

MTV had a Cabo Wabo contest a couple years later and i would call the # but was still too young.

I love VH more than anything back then!

    JB

    JB

  • This was when MTV actually played music...what the fuck happened!?

  • i agree so much! their policy is probably do go with the most opular shit. that's why they had good music and now it's just cribs and bad music!

  • I wish I could have entered this and the Pink Floyd contest that they had where you got to Learn to Fly with Pink Floyd. Around 1994 was when MTV was starting to die.I then stopped watching after 1996 when the original Van Halen and KISS reunited at the Video Music Awards that year. I miss the real music.

  • Wow the good old days and LA gear sneakers lol

  • Im gonna enter this shit!!!!

  • Scorpions the best!

  • I Went to this concert. Scorpions kicked ass like no one else.

  • I wonder if the bands talked to each other much before each show... Would be interesting to watch a conversation between them. A video with Kirk Hammett talking to Eddie Van Halen would be pretty epic in my opinion.

  • itd be better if eddie van halen shot dave mustaine

  • @cornbandit1542 WHY?

  • Nice!!!! I saw this at the L.A. Coliseum. Great show!!!

  • this was the first concert i ever went to @nassau coleseum this was the launch of and justice for all for metallica i still have my blue tie dyed shirt lol. wow i'm old

  • Now it's sad...it's just Guitar Hero!!!! :(

  • Nothing like the 80's!

  • what's the song that starts at 0:59 ?

  • Black and Blue from OU812

  • yeah i found out cuz it stood a little earlier but thanks anyways

  • i wonder if its not to late to sighn up for that thing...

  • i wonder to :S

  • DAMNIT!!! I WANNA DO THAT!!!!!

  • it was an awesome time back then...so many stories, so little time....it just flies on by.....I worked every tour in florida. EVERY act...Kiss, AC/DC,VanHalen,Aerosmith on and on....was good times and plenty of tang

  • I worked the set up on the Tampa show at the old sombrero....worked like a dog for snake and the crew....met Mike at the crew tent..he was eating steakburgers with the rest of us....also had the honor of dropping edwards "frankenstrat" by bumping into his home made guitar rack that he bolted to the rear of the speaker cabinets aimed towards the crowd......

  • hell what a story lol

  • what song is that in the beginning?

  • "Why Can't This Be Love" by Van Halen on the 51/50 Album.

  • what song is that in the beginning

  • I was at the 88 monsters of rock in the Kingdome it kicked ass!!!!!

  • Metallica And Scorpions... Fuck yeah!

  • Well, here goes a commercial that MTv has not aired in 20 years because of the Viacom victory over Google.

  • @erich2872 wat exactly do u mean by this

  • @erich2872 wat exactly do u mean by this?

  • It's too bad bands these days and concerts these days aren't as good as they were then. Even at their age seeing all these guys in one show again would be cool.

  • I saw this concert in Tampa...A lot of fun!

  • AH [BEEP!] Why the HELL was I born in '93 ?! Goddamn it! Would've killed to see Metallica and Van Halen live back then...

  • I was there, it was gr8!!!!!!!

  • to have seen metallica in the 80's would have made my life complete

  • hehehehehehe...

    wine coolers! how late '80s!

  • Akron Rubber bowl. Metallica ruled. This tour was their coming out party. Man, LA Gear and wine coolers. I don't feel too old now :). Ah, back when MTV played videos.

  • Saw the MOR show at Candlestick in S.F. I got to 3rd row when the lights go out and I hear a whammy bar followed by Summer Nights blazing. I was 3rd row when I see Eddie Van Halen infront of me. Seriously I just went numb,no bullshit, it was amazing to see my idiol right there playing. He had on Blue sweats, black tank top,I could almost smell the Budweiser of the dudes breath,LOL.

  • I saw monsters of rock in 1988 at RFK stadium in Washington DC. One of the most awesome things that happened was during the concert, there were Coke Cups all over the ground. Everyone was drinking coke. All at once, everyone started tossing them in the air. If you looked up, there was a constant cloud of coke cups in the air. Red and White....1000s and 1000s of them. It was so cool. I was only 16 and yes, I had the cool hair from back in the day....

And they said the 60's were cool

  • The same thing happened in Memphis. I won 2 tix from a local radio station and a bus ride to and from, I live in Alabama. I'll never forget that cloud of coke cups. It was feaking HOT. 104 in Memphis that day. Scorps should have headlines. Metallica was awesome. They played in the heat of the day dressed in all black. The coke cup cloud started right before Dokken hit the stage. My thanx to the roadies with the firehoses or I wouldn't be here today...serious.

  • GRRRRRRRRRRRRR FUCK! I wish I was alive to see this, back then when MTV was cool, Metal and rock stars were treated like rap and pop stars, and when your parents had COOL hair!

'80'S MAN! BEST DECADE OF MUSIC EVER!

  • I saw it at the Meadowlands. Best band at that show was the Scorpions IMO (and pretty much everyone I talked to). Metallica was pretty close. Dokken was friggin horrible - which killed me because I was really into Lynch at the time.

  • Funny. That year (1992)I turned 21 and saw Van Halen, Guns n Roses, Metallica in concert. Good times!

  • HAHA...Metallica really sticks out in that lineup. BUT THEY'RE THE BEST ONE THERE!!!

  • Im going write in for this competition! Sounds great! Hope I win!

    Tc

  • I wish i was the lucky bastard that won that.

  • and it's gonna KICK YOUR ASS!

  • what's the song playing at 1:00?

  • The song is Black and Blue from OU812. It also is on Best of Both Worlds 2 Disc Greatest Hits.

  • Black and Blue - Van Hagar

  • SCORPIONS the best!feel the deadly sting!surely the best live band ever!the guys that have seen them know that

  • Metallica rulez!!

  • I was there at Kansas City-Arrowhead stadium. Unforgettable.

  • Me too! 90+ degrees and let us not forget the infamous food fight....

  • how i wish i was born to see this concert.

    what an amazing line-up=D

espeically to see dokken & van halen

  • is that stan lee's voice? haha

  • Wine coolers, candy bars, and L.A. Gear. What else do u need?

  • Who the fuck is Kingdom Come?

  • I hear this was all good except Dokken. They fell apart during this tour..

  • i saw the monsters of rock tour at alpine valley and dokken wasnt bad.even kingdom come wasnt bad but metallica was out of this world.

  • Yeah, Metallica Destroyed on montsters of rock, saw it at Akron Rubber Bowl. This is what blew them up to the masses. Man, I miss those days.

  • yea those days it was fun going to concerts.

  • Something like this just makes me wonder, Is this just a publicity stunt? Did anyone actually get to go on that bus and do all those things? Did 100 runner ups actually recieve L.A. Gear sneakers? Or is all this just a publicity stunt MTV doesn't provide for and hopes no one finds out about it?

  • I went on the bus man, i had all the wine coolers candy bars and L.A gear you could possibly want (that is just one pair of sneakers because that brand sucked) I even got to do a groupy after lars, she was fat though... O_O

  • That wouldve been badass to win

  • saw this in Buffalo- awesome-

  • Mettalica is overrated. It's just "crash, bang. Crash, bang". They haven't put out anything worth a damn since before '91.

  • I wouldn't talk with a name like hangntough you probably like New Kids on the Block.

  • Does New Kids on the Block having something to do with hangntough? I wouldn't know, but I guess you would, Mr. Ed.

  • Hair metal sucks ass...A whole bunch of pussies playing easy rock. Metallica has much better music and more talent put into it.Scorpions do not deserve a spot in the rock of fame. Metallica does.

  • Was at the Kansas City show and the Scorpions were the best of them all. Van Halen sucked.

  • saw this show in pittsburgh was about 105 degrees VH kicked everyones ass that day as expected

  • man they neva do stuff like that anymore

  • I was in Giants Stadium in New Jersey - I jumped the big blue wall to get down low and ROCKED out- it was an amazing day. Except for when my friend passed out (Scorpions were playing "Blackout") how ironic!!!

  • Scorpions, Filler band?...are you fuckin crazy?...you must be too young to have seen the US festval in california in '83?...well i was there and the Scorpions kicked the shit out of every other band there!...look for the video here on youtube...Idiot!!

  • just like assholes....everybodys got them!

  • Ah you missed an important word in that saying.

  • Scorpions are the best rock band on earth, Metallica was never as good as them, and they will never be.

And at last many band's take a lot of inspiration from their stuff. (Van Halen, Smashing Pumpkins, and at last Metallica, too)

  • no.

  • was at the Giants Stadium,East Rutherford,NJ show. One hot, long and crazy day and night.Metallica got the crowd going in this 95 degree blistering heat..Security was grabbing people who jumped the wall onto the field...it was nuts but loved every minute of it..

  • Yeah I was at the Miami show. Scorpions and Metallica ruled. Everyone else was forgettable. So wasted that day!

  • I was at the show in Akron, OH. It was great...and whoever said Dokken was bad...thanks for reminding me...I knew they sucked one of the times I saw them but I couldn't remember which! LOL, BTW, just saw them again at Rocklahoma 2007 and they were AWESOME!

  • i was at the philly show in 88 also, on the field about 50 feet from the stage.....dokken were preety bad...after there first song my friend shouted to don dokken..."GOOO HOOOME DOON!!!"....he had to have heard it.

other then that it was a great show. ahh the memories :)

  • I saw the Philly show-It was like everyone was there to see metallica-they opened with Harvester of Sorrow-as and justice for all hadent been released yet-What a great show-Dokken was good too believe it or not!

  • I was @ the L.A. Colesium for this, I had just turned 16. To this day that was one of the craziest, most electric shows I've ever been to. It was as if the entire crowd was there to see Metallica, none of the other bands got the response they did. I always loved seeing Metallica in L.A. back in the day! Fucking good times & great memories!

  • I was at that show too I was prob 14. Can you say RIOT !!! for Metallica - still the top concert I have ever been to.

  • I went to the Houston show at Rice Satdium (July/88). I had seen 3 of the other bands, but not Metallica. Metallica opened with "Creeping Death" - Pure Destruction says it all. Good times...

  • DJKILOWATT I was there as well!!I saw them all that day.First REAL concert I ever went to.The HEAT was incredible as people were being drug out by stretchers from heat exaustion.Dokken's George Lynch was having all kinds of gear problems but they came back with In My Dreams and won the crowd back.Hagar went on and on about the Texas heat,Metallica was CRUSHING,Scorpions were great. Thanks for the cool flashback!

  • I was at the Los Angeles Memorial Colosseum, that was such an amazing show.

there was the worlds biggest food fight in the stands when Metallica came on stage it was bedlam L.a.p.d couldn't handle the metal lot's of heads were going to jail.

  • i was at the alpine valley show.metallica made the ground shake, rokken with dikken and the scorpions blew everyone away.but metallica was right there to.alpine valley is the best place to see concerts

  • Was at the Kansas City Concert at Arrowhead, Managed to get front and center for Kingdom Come, Scorpions, Dokken, And then Metallica... and paid the price because I was afraid to move from my spot till Metallica played, But being 15 feet from James Hatfield for the whole Metallica set was worth it !!!!!

  • Saw the show in LA VH blew everyone away.

  • I ment the 1st time i saw them.

    JB

  • I was at the Pittsburgh show. 16 years old, snuck into 3 rivers stadium. My buddy was selling frozen lemonades on the field and got me in. Ahhh. the memories. It was funny because the Scorpions couldnt speak English except for thier songs. This is when I officially became a Metallica fan.

  • Los angeles show was amazing - pure destruction. Metallica killed it.

  • Would love to see footage of the Los Angeles MOR

  • I was the same age 13 - that show was fucken incredible. Ended up front row for VH. Fucken awesome

  • i was at the show in L.A. when metallica played everyone in the stands tore down the fences and rushed the floor. freakin chaos man it was great.i was already in 13 th row, but it became a festival seating. metallica blew every one away

  • Metallica killed it. I think it was the 2nd song in when the place blew up. I miss the good ole Real Rock N roll show.

  • Oh God! I'm so glad the boys in Van Halen never tried acting ever again...

  • First VH concert was the ou812 tour right after this.

    JB

  • YOu mean the 1st VH tour with "Sammy" as Lead Singer.

  • I remember this.

I had thoes same glasses too.

    JB

  • aahh.the good ole days

  • Amen

  • Who won this anyway?

  • That was a killer guitar concert. Eddie Van Halen, George Lynch, Kirk Hammet and James.
