  • You should check out Ubuntu Zorin if You are a windows user & are curious about Linux. it's excellent !

  • Gentoo really fast nice free distro ))) reall freadom in source based distro but it's price - hard toinstall for beginers. (sorry for my Engish)

  • I find it funny how some Linux users go round slaming other operating systems then make Linux interface an exact copy!

  • @djgravitate I'm not limited to one OS. I use Windows for bussiness, it's perfect. I also have a Macbook air for personal use. and finally gentoo linux, installed on my remote server. All platforms are good. It's just a matter of preference :)

  • How nice is linux, I can have jiggly windows.

  • seriously clean up your desktop! messy messy! nice vid. nice song. yeah it's czech.

  • @22ness0hayden maybe I'm just doing it wrong. I followed the gentoo handbook and installed it very smoothly (with LVM as well). I don't really know how to choose useflags and which ones i need. I would think to look inside the use.defaults or w/e it's called and write down all the ones i think i will use.

  • Type PRIZE before youtube and hit enter

  • SPINNIN CUBES

  • Hello, I see you are using Kiba-Dock, and not Cairo, how come, and how do I set up the dock? IS there a wiki for it? Hit me up when you can, holla

  • @djAmored Check out Docky. It just blows my mind.

  • What language is this song in? Slovakian or something? Im fluent in Polish and i can understand most of these words, lol.

  • @Krystianekx3

    It's in Czech bro

  • @Krystianekx3 sounds like Polish! lot of words are very similar! oh well

  • Can you please tell me if which is this background song?

  • @subticnewjour

    To all:

The song is called "PSH - Moje řeč" (It's Czech song ;)

  • whats the song?

  • looks just like mac

  • @orik32 gentoo does not look like a MAC he made it that way. GENTOO as default comes as a terminal/command line ONLY and you build everything from scratch. IT took me 3 days to build my gentoo system. but in teh END its the MOST stable thing you can ask for .

  • Gentoo is more flexible than ubuntu. (thumbs up if its true).

But at least ubuntu is better than Window$!!!

  • i had to get rid of ubuntu too it was too slow, my music was skipping and everything. do you think this one will be ok on a 3ghz computer.

  • @ganjaking187 On a 3ghz machine Ubuntu should be more than ok :O Gentoo will run for sure if you have the patience to setup everything.

  • Has anyone know about Seyonan? The newest distro it came last week

  • @vnck25 didn't u mean Sabayon? Tbh if u want use sth like Gentoo.. just use Gentoo. Distros based on Gentoo for now on r not worth using imo

  • wow so you can make your frames wiggle... grats... script kiddie

  • @jakestaz Its certainly more than most people can do that's for sure.

I use gentoo for gaming, web browsing, drawing, printing note sheets, and for writing things down.

But I don't need all those special effects to drown the performance of my PC. I just need something that can do work and at a very fast speed.

  • @jakestaz Installing Gentoo is quite complicated.

  • Install Gentoo faggot

  • Linux Mint Helena is the best Linux Distro!

  • No, Linux Mint is training wheels on top of training wheels.

  • The best distro of linux is biglinux!

  • @myvideoscom: My first linux distro was best too. Just leave some time for your taste to define.

  • @myvideoscom

    No,ubuntu is the best.

  • its basically a brazillian version of kubuntu.

  • you left gentoo for ubuntu??

    damn...

  • @dmanoos

yeah,i left gentoo, cuz it was too many compilations,on my server i got debian, which is similiar to ubuntu.

  • @nixon623 Gentoo is good but it just takes so long.

  • @nixon623 i agree, these DIY distros sometimes are just not worth it.

  • @nixon623 little bit backwards. Ubuntu is similar to debian. :)

  • @nixon623 Gentoo is awesome but compiling from source for everything is a waste of time. Especially the initial installs. I tend to stick to Arch, Debian, Ubuntu.

  • @FearedBliss This is true. But I have found if I emerge everything I need, I very rarely need to compile anything... usually just updates. Also there are some BINs available, for firefox, openoffice, and such like. A dedicated binary install for Gentoo would be interesting though.

  • Comment removed

  • @nixon623 Debian isn't similar to Ubuntu, Ubuntu is similar to Debian ;)

Debian is a lot better than Ubuntu

    But gentoo rocks !

  • @dmanooos i've never seen it before either.. big shame lol

  • What's your graphic card? With my fucking ati hd4670 there is no way to use activate desktop effects.

  • ati doesnt have very good drivers for linuxioioiooioioio im sorry :(

  • @wildwolfnsf i have a hd4670 and can have whatever desktop effects i want with no problem....

  • would this work on any other distro? like ubuntu for instance?

  • yes,on ubuntu its even easier to setup

  • I'm an ubuntu user. but one of my older computers is facing problems with it. i belive its the graphic card. do you think gentoo would be better on that computer?

  • Download latest ubuntu release or download manualy driver for graphic card and install

  • The ubuntu new realese, karmic koala, is even more slower than the previous, for old computers.

The best distro in terms of perfonce is Gentoo...

    why did you leave it?

  • ubuntu has slow windows managing and slow videos of youtube. I already tried ubuntu and it was the worst experience i had in terms of performance and out of the box.

The only thing ubuntu has is the bigest comunity of linux, so good support/compatiblity and the fact that it's easy to manage.

But in terms of graphical cards drivers for old computer it is the worst distro you can find. Try PclinuxOS or puppy if your pc is really really old (like 128 of ram and 166 mhz of cpu).

  • @metalninja2David What are the specs for that PC?

Gentoo has very surprisingly low requirements.

I have successfully run gentoo on a P3 1GHZ CPU with 256MB of ram and a 32MB Video Card and was still able to do amazing things with it but that machine wasn't able to run ubuntu or xubuntu at a reasonable enough speed.

  • @nixon623 agreed

  • cool desktop

  • Ahoj, ptám se autora. Jedu asi už 5 let na Ubuntu a chtěl bych vyzkoušet Gentoo. Je o hodně jiný? Mohl bys ho třeba trochu srovnat? Moc dík za odpověď. :-)

  • whats better gentoo or ubuntu?

  • Try both and see the diference, the best system for you is one that fit your needs.

    personaly i prefer more Gentoo

  • ubuntu sucks, u guys should try gentoo or fedora

  • i'd like to try on some linux distributions i just need help u guys.

what is the best and most fun linux distribution? :P

  • i don't think there is the best one. everyone suits with a different distribution. the most popular and accessable is ubuntu, for now. but you can enjoy working with other distros. But if you are at the beginning with gnu/linux you can easily try ubuntu.

  • i had ubuntu some time ago. wasn't bad. i'm working on Fedora in school tho

  • @cankarales

Ubuntu is a very popular and is an easier distribution to use. To get help with that head over to the Ubuntu Forums.

  • slackware

  • what's the difference between ubuntu and gentoo?

  • You've been banned at Google, haven't you?

  • I think the primary difference is that with Gentoo you compile software locally from source, while in Ubuntu (and other Debian derivatives) you'll be downloading ready binaries (packages) most of the time.

In other words, Gentoo might require more knowledge - but also gives more control over what functionality you want compiled... note I haven't been using Gentoo much, so I might be wrong. :p

On the other hand, Debian's package system is extremely easy to use and requires minimal user input...

  • It really sucks how Microsoft has made people so dumb...

  • That's Linux :)

  • err... what? i am lost coz i was just clicking on vids and i found this. but it is cool.

  • funciona en una macbook negra con parallels? gracias

  • yes it does.just google for gentoo wiki and find guide for macbooks

  • why do i care if i have a pretty wobbly window if i can't even run shit?

  • i use linux only for servers, but it can be used good as desktop too,its a matter of taste

  • I run Linux to avoid running "shit".

  • navigating that drop down menu looks really ugly, but once a windows opened it was pretty nice.

  • it's kind of annoying when people post videos about their distros like this. i'm running linux mint and i can make it look and do everything that you're doing right here. i dunno how anyone can accurately show differences between distros.....

    ali g is that shit

  • Yes,all distros can do same thing as i do,im showing ppl how it looks, for those who dont know, and about difrences, linux gentoo is distro that you compile from scratch, every program you download must be compiled first,so you basically compile gentoo to fit ur hardware requirements, and gentoo have imho best package manager called "portage" , it isn't for beginners

    btw: Ali G movie rock!

  • pepiczkowy rap ;-)

  • lol czech rap... Pretty good...

  • fires up limewire F**K you RIAA

  • Well, I just inject myself in the leg with data basically.. #:^/

  • Im glad u like it :)

  • Omg windows got nothing on that lol neather does vista

  • Is that song Bosanski?

    FK

  • Nope,its czech rap

the song is called "Moje rec" by PSH :)

  • So how would i go about starting out with gentoo linux? What would i need to know about programming and whatnot? And what about wifi drivers?

  • go to their site man... read the manuals, its pretty "easy" to understand. the site is gentoo d-o-t org

  • Mnogo ti je dobra muzika jek mozes da mi kazes ae xD

  • where can i get the song for this vid i dont understand what in hell he is saying but sounds sick

  • I dont't remember right now,im now using program gtk-record-my-desktop,try it,its maybe better

  • This is CZECH rap .. zzzz

  • German rap ? wtf? as if english rap wasnt bad enough..

  • This is my first video ... recorded with xvidcap

  • nice ive compiz how do i get it to do that i have the cube thing down but how do i do what your doing?

  • you have to install compiz-plugins,and turn it on,water effect,snow,wobbly windows...etc

  • Which settings did you use in xvidcap? Mine is set to 100% quality and 15fps, but the dialog box that shows when I stop recording always says that the achieved frame rate is *always* much lower (between 3 and 4 fps), so any videos I make turn out choppy (and play and end quickly), unlike yours. I'm confused because my computer should be able to easily handle recording a <640x480 screen capture (AMD64 Athlon x2 3800+ CPU, 3GB DDR RAM, Ubuntu Hardy Heron x64).
