If there is water, tectonic activity, volcanoes, stacks or plain friction of any sort, your almost there.Time and luck will create more complex molecules which ultimately will end up with the beginning's of that worldy evolutions path.
i suprised that the me-thane doesent break down into e-thane at that temperature. methane and water doesnt give you life anyway, life isnt as simple as "just add water to me-thane"
In those conditions (900 C) methane is in stable respect it's elements ( C + H2). So no cracking reactions here! at least not in the hot side of the planet.
Why do people assume that ALL life needs the same conditions that life on Earth requires? Humans are so small minded. Life can evolve to any environment, so it could be that the planets that Humans think are the most unlikely to have life, could be the very ones that have it in abundance.
No element other than carbon can do what carbon does. Carbon-based life forms have to have certain characteristics, based on what carbon does and does not react with. That's why we expect life to be so similar. Of course, no-one who knows what they're talking about actually guarantees that it will be the same - just that that's what we expect.
True.. and I agree with you. But you cannot discount the fact that it is possible that carbon based lifeforms are the only way to create life.
There are billions x billions of planets out there so we can assume coincidences that are infinitely small because there are infinitely large amounts of "tries" on each planet.
We can also assume that every possible environment exists out there some where.
Yes life as "we know it" there could be life that needs 3000 degrees to live. i know that there is life in the universe, even intelligent, and we are being visited by them.

I thought methane was flamable, surely at the temp of the planet the methane would have burnt off?
