yeah, check out all the hot chicks you get to work with. This isn't "A day in the life of.." It is just hydraulic engineers do hydraulics, environmental engineers treat poop, mapping engineers look at maps...very insightful
im currently studying engineering atm..will major in civil..starting salary in australia is around 78000 but can be way more depending on how good you have gone (high distinctions/thesis mark)..generally after 2 years in the profession you will be on 120k a year as a site engineer..promotions to project engineer, construction engineer and higher yield more
@elitebro14 who cares about environment , keep on building , and cut down trees , and your bank acc becomes bigger year by year , THIS IS CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY !!
HELLO. im a 3rd year civil eng student.last year they ask me to continue for civil eng or go for sturucural eng..to be honest i didn't understand what is the differences between them..i choose civil eng..now i study soil mechanic, highway and transportation.maths.water and environment..is that mean that i study every thing about civil eng.???if yes..what kind of work i can find in the future??the next few months i will get ordinary degree and after 2 years i will get honer degree,,,,
I've been in the construction industry for 15 years now. One thing you should really develop, which will help you in your career, is your communication skills whether its written, drawn or spoken. Also having the ability to think outside the box as there are numerous solutions to a problem though sometimes the contractor / client are blinded by cost, usually opt for the cheapest isn't always the best solution and you'll have to back up your reasons why solution x is better than y.
Its a great career which in Britain has sadly lost some of its prestige and respect perhaps its not seen a glamourous and our professional institutions haven't been great at promoting the profession until recently. It was only by chance I found out what skills Civil / Structural Engineering involved which appealed to me!
@crazy7lover I'm getting reading for my first calculus class this coming fall semester. How do you like the coursework so far? I have not gotten to take an Actual Civil engineering course yet; How is it? How is the work?
@Joesire the classes arent that hard, you just have to pay attention. like the video said, theres a wide variety of things you can do such as designing sky scrappers and making sure that the skeleton can withstand the force generated by wind, earthquakes and its own weight. Just to give you an idea, contrary to what ppl think, when designing lets say a 20 story building. You dont start from bottom to the top, you go the other way around. Top to bottom making sure that the 20th floor can support
@Joesire the weight of the roof + snow + water from rain. the 19th floor can support all that plus the weight of the 20th floor and so on. You can also do construction site inspection, making sure that everything is done by the books because some contractors tend to get lazy. i can go on but its youtube and i'll probably get shit for it lol so yeah if your into maths, physics and you like challenges then you'll probably like civil engineering
my lecturer said "a civil engineer deals with whether the building will stay up, and how to make sure it stays up. an architect worries about whether the carpet matches the furniture"
@blitzmyster, thats not true, my dad is an architect, he was the lead designer for target field (twins), Busch stadium (cardinals), Pet-co park (padres) and many others, he has to take a test to become a certified architect, the test goes over engineer crap like this, i don't think he matches furniture, he actually designs the stadium and its structure. an interior designer matches the the furniture and all that.
what are you up to? you seem to be more like a journalist asking questions all the time.are you really a student or an architect ro what ?Nest time you may have pay for answering questions.
If you're curious, you might have a look at my channel. I'm just a guy trying to figure out what I want to do, which I am finding, is not such an easy question to answer.
It seems to me, if I were a journalist, first, I would find a better venue than YouTube, and second, I would probably be giving serious thought to a career change about now.
Does this mean that you prefer not to answer my questions?
I'm going into civil engineering. It makes me sad how many engineering students rag on architects and designers. With out them the world would be incredibly ugly and boring. With out engineers we wouldn't be able to build anything period. Good design + efficient and functional buildings are what make me happy.
architects design the shape of the buidings but civil engineer to design structural elements of the building say a tubular tall structure in chicago. In general architects and engineers work together to understand how dreams of architects are realsed by engineers with steel and concrete make the structure stand tall on foundations designed with soil engineering and the building is constructed by civil engineers with wide experience in dealing with architects, clients and contractors.
In reality architects want to make elaborate and grand designs. Engineers try to reduce this into a cube. Classic excuse: "Don't blame me, blame the standard!"
The Architect designs the building, the civil/structural engineer designs the structural design of the building(What materials will be used, where the support columns will be etc), the two work very close together.
Excellent video to promote civil engineering.I was introduced to civil engineering when i was 5 years old by my late father, who was a pwd contractor and inspite of the fact that i was brillant in maths and some saidi should do maths and become a maths professor, for me challenge of civil engineeing and seeig your ideas and designs and construction of it being used for generation to come more appealing that try to find a formular for so called psedo random behavior of prime numbers.
same here. im rank one in my school for maths. but i dont want 2 focus just on maths my whole life. im also strong in physics, so engineer is most likely for me. that was what my late father was.
boring

yea but that depends. if u are a civil structural engineer then u do. my dad is a Ph.D in civil enginner and he does that every day of the week

That's what a structural engineer does, which is civil and isn't as hard ad they make it sound.
