I do tech crew for our school and we have 20 of these SM58's, they are absolutely brilliant, great if dropped, they are pretty much indestructable. Although, it requires you to pretty much be kissing the mic to hear them very well and you can get a LOT of feedback pretty easily. Great sound quality, would definately reccomend them.
what mic is best for someone who wants to record singing covers on a computer and upload them to the computer, and maybe include some guitar somewhere down the line.
Hello, I was thinking of purchasing this mic. I have a mini studio at home in my bedroom with my desktop computer. I have an area fenced off with blankets and other padding. I don't have a mixer or an EQ, I have used audacity but am considering upgrading and investing in Pro Tools. What would be a good Mic for me at 100 dollars or under?
what are some other mics along this price range (give or take. i mean cheaper would be awesome but i mean a couple more bucks well spent wont be a big deal..)
that could be good for live performances?
im a vocalist and a beatboxer and use loads of effects pedals and goodies, so what would suffice? doesn't behringer make some decent ones too?
Hi there, my mum just bought a 5.1ch Digital Speech Control Amplifier (AMP-510USB), and i just realised that there is where i can plug a mic into, so am wondering wether if i bought a shure sm58 it would work. Can anyone help?
Hey can you use this mic for computer as will, like it ain't USB right? I think "XLR" they call It by the way can you even connect this Shure SM 58 microphone onto a computer because I need to connect this mic onto Cool edit pro for recording, Any help? Thanks!
I have a Pod x3 Live Effects pedal...You said it would be hard to record to computer but the Pod has all that EQ stuff and what not. Will it work before I buy I'm just ery curious as I don't wanna blow 60$! Thanks
I know i am bringing the wrong microphone, I wonder, regarding the SM57, i noticed the SM58 has a metal protection around it, but that it underneath it looks like an SM57. I just wonder, is it worth spending money for this protection for an SM57?
I also wonder if you know if older dels of the SM57 look/Sound different compared to the newer ones? :)
I have an SM58 and am recording through an XLR M-Audio USB interface into Logic on my Mac. Is there any way I can get a better quality of sound? How about processing? Aside from EQ, what can I do to make my dynamic mic sound a bit closer to a condenser? Thank you :)
The SM58 is fine going direct to a computer as far a signal level goes. Boost the damned volume on your computer. Is it the best way to go? No but it will work if you are on a low budget and just making demos.
for recording rock vocals, i think rediculiosly high end condensers sound almost too good. you listen to it, and you're like "nobody's voice sounds that smooth." Just grab a 58 and you're set. 58s and 57s have been used on so many more huge name records than ppl realize. U2, RHCP, Michael Jackson. All cheap Shure dynamic mic users.

nice review. Could you plz make a review about shure pg58. It is a mic that is just a little lower quality than a sm58 but it cost a lot less then sm58.
58 is the mic for Live playing. If you're VERY picky there are better sounding Dynamic mics out there But the 58 is a good compromise between price, build, Even sound, and other things that make a Live mic (built in pop guard and Cardioid pickup pattern) Better sounding Mics might not be as resilient or handle plosives or Feedback. as well.
eNikoltsios Genuine Shure SM58's are around £95 - Those £30 steals are fakes, made to look like the real deal. be suspect of anyone selling brand new one's less than around £70. IF you buy from Shure's approved list and buy in bulk you can pay about £50 a mic.
P or SH sounds will not damage dynamic microphones as said in the video. Even if there was no ball grill and you were talking directly into the diaphragm, there would be no damage. These things are indestructible. Well, Shure mics anyway.
Exactly right. The mic is designed to take sound vibrations, and convert them into a signal. The strength of that signal can damage the mixer if the gain is too high but not the mic itself. Otherwise you would have to store the mic away from loud noise (a band playing for example...) which is nonsense! The damage that can result from not having the filter would be from moisture entering the microphone from your singing, which shortens the life rather than immediately damaging the mic.
No, get a condenser mic instead. This type of mic uses a big fat coil to pick up sound, which is very hard wearing, but you miss out the treble detail. Condensers use a thin film. If you're not recording though, and just using it live, no-one will notice the difference, but them you probably don't need your own mic anyway.
Cool, thanks I was wondering this, I plan on buying one today for my covers, I kinda want to record with it too, is it gonna be ok for that? Even tho the guy said probably not? lol.
hey guys ive got an sm58 and i was recording something simple with garageband the other day but i noticed that wen the voice didnt seem to blend in with the beat (it was a rap song)

The SHURE SM58... this video talks about it, and how it is a "standard"... no need to ask again if you watched the video r_r
btw... I have it and i've used it Live and Record with it, those 109 dollars are worth for the incredible quality ;D
So its the perfect choice, and thats my recommendation :)
