Besides this, candidates in the US depend largely on there own donations and lobbying, which largely come from business and wealthy individuals - this includes Democrats. In Europe, most social-democratic parties (which candidates do depend on) are not even majority funded by unions and most unions have been forced to accept the neoliberal settlement anyway to prevent further reprisals.
