You are talking about "GonzaDeath's" shovelhead, it is not one of mine, but it is a fine looking machine. The whirring sound you refer to is the primary belt drive.
No, but watch when buying parts for the engine to be sure you get correct fit, there is an 80ci and a 74 ci, the oil passages differ in different year models, and there are generator alternator models. All are good, just take care when sourcing parts.
Is there any way to identify which engine you have? I have a 1977 Electraglide FLH, quite similar to this one. the previous owner knew almost none of the specifics, though he had it serviced regularly.
If the engine is original on the bike, you will have an alternator instead of a generator, a cone shape ignition/cam cover (at your right foot when sitting on the bike), and displacement is 74 ci (1200cc) also should already have hardened valve guides and seats to use unleaded gas. Early Shovels had 2 different oil pathways. Can you email me a photo?
no pics yet, but im working on it. good to hear about the seats and guides. I have a couple cars from 55-56 and im glad i dont have to worry about the bike. Thanks for the information!
Why would you prefer an unreliable and worn out bike? This motorcycle can (and is) ridden anywhere and wins every show it has entered. What's not to like?
Ihad a 76 flh years ago and miss it dearly . Got an 84 superglide now . Shovels and 4 speeds forever . Remember a good bike marks her spot .
