@toejam390 wtf dude my dad was in the Navy and my sister is going to be in there to I don't see you trying to protect the country with your life shut your fucking mouth if your not out there risking your life for america
I became a Shellback in Oct 16th 1982, Long 119E aboard the USS Belleau Wood LHA-3, I was he NCOIC of the LAAD Det with the 31st MAU. Even our ships Captain was a Wog. They stopped the whole armada including the Ogden. and then after a steel beach party it was on to Freemantle/Perth Australia, where there were hundreds on teenage beauties waiting on the docks for us.......Ohhhhrahhhhhh!
I can explain it... Wog Day was a waste of time, completely stupid. Opt out while you can. The "ceremony" was just downright retarded and stupid. The biggest waste of my time.
Can't stop laughing remembering my initiation, 20 Nov 1982, USS Enterprise, I had just turned 19. I have my certificate proudly displayed in my living room along with my Blue Nose from 1991. 27 years of total service with Naval Aviation... Great memories!!! Priceless tradition. FLY NAVY!!
Hazing hell lol, I went through it in 1999. I also wouldn't trade that moment for anything. I proudly display my plaque, and talk about it in an instant. USS Frederick - Marine deployed! Semper Fi!
I can't believe this video existed. I was on the Westpack and on this ship. I was in the Motor T platoon. 18 years old and like my Dad and brother, both squids, became a shellback. Thank you for the memories.
I read that the Navy no longer does this...it did get rough at times. I never forget my friend Danny went up topside and beat our Chief Petty Officer. I think his butt was bleeding...I'm not making this up. We also beat the Marines too, but those guys are really tough and could take it.
I am a PROUD SHELLBACK!! All Non hacker feather merchants and tree huggers Stand Back and and make way for a Proud DEEP WATER SAILOR! The one's that whine about about Grand Traditions like this Sleep Safe at night because Men & Women of the Armed Forces are keeping them safe...

Looks pretty tame compared to when I went across in 1982. Thick, black axle grease the took several showers to get out. Nasty breakfast that was green, red and yellow, have no idea what it was. This just looked to easy!

My brother was in the navy, so I understand the "On the surface" reasoning...But I won't hold your ignorance of what I know or don't know against you.
What I will hold against you and whoever the other person was who gave my comment a 'Thumbs Down".....Do you Really think people give a rats ass about voting crap ?...Are you part of the group-think that believes that if enough people vote a comment 'Up' or 'Down' other people will agree with you?
@USMC4evr An article on Wikipedia says that some guys died in those ceremonies. Some were sexually abused (sodomized with beer bottles). Some needed medical assistance, etc. I find all this rather childish and I suspect it was invented by some guys with low education. Maybe I'm wrong, I'll try to learn more about this.

I'm doomed... I keep hearing that everyone has to go though this if in the Navy and crossing over. Well I've also heard that they quit. I'm not sure. I just joined and then everyone tells me about this. I'm like CRAP. But yeah... awesome video. Doesn't look like you got it to bad. I've seen worse!
Its not as bad as it use to be. When I crosssed in 00 on Obannon they still whipped our ass even thought it had been banned by then. When we crossed again on Obrien in 03 and enterprise in 06 it was tuned down and turned into a PT event. You will be wet and you will be tired. And trust me people still find a way to get a piece of that ass!!!
oh joy. lol... I'll make it. I can't let a bunch of boys beat me in all that. hehehe... it'll be interesting to see how that turns out. So they still do it! Well guess I don't have luck on my side. lol... thanks for the reply!

I don't need it explained to me; thank you.
I'm educated and experienced enough to decipher the reasoning behind this ritual
My "question" was merely a sarcastic one; not meant to really be answered
swordsman3000 2 years ago
I am a physician...well educated...plenty of self-esteem...shellback and proud to be (USN HM2, 89-98).
These traditions link us to the generations of sailors that came before and those that are to follow.
Fact, you DO need it explained to you!
