@angelrter1 I guess. Those guys, while fast, are not known for their ability to navigate the multiple layer rhythms that Mangini does. While Mangini shreds all the guys you mentioned, he probably shreds your hubby too.
I'm thinkin 20th century it was all Buddy Rich. 21st century, let's see...Mike Mangini, Tony Royster. What does everybody else think? Who really is the all around greatest drummer thus far of the 21st century?
This is awesome. But the part at 2:50 is easier then you think. Its called a one handed drum roll. The technique allows you to hit the drum 2 times as fast as you move your hand. Look up "1 handed drum roll"
@SpartanLaserCanon Kodak Zi8. I highly recommend these for concert recording. If you look through my other videos, they're all shot with the same cam and you can see how well it does. Note: these are all taken with the built-in mic. The beauty of the Zi8 is that it allows for an external mic, as well as removable batteries so you can capture an entire concert with an extra battery and ~8GB sd card.
Sorry. But my husband blows him away!!! Very hard to impress me with drum solo's, maybe John Longstreth and George Kollias and Mike Smith. Oh yeah, can't forget Tim Yeung. And Lyle Cooper from The Faceless!

@dahudge14 The track listing is on Wikipedia under "A Dramatic Turn of Events Tour." There are a few variable tracks. I was there, so I'll list them: Instead of Wait for Sleep, they played Silent Man. Instead of Far From Heaven, they played Beneath the Surface. Instead of Caught in a Web, they played Forsaken, Instead of Breaking All Illusions, it was Outcry. And for the encore, it was Under a Glass Moon, not Pull Me Under. I hope that answers your question.
Hey thanks buddy. I didn't know they list that on wikipedia, I'll go look right now. Their new album just came out almost a month ago, I barely got to get familiar with the whole album, so I didn't know every single song they played....
His one-handed drum rolls are nothing short of godly. As a drummer of 25 years, that is extremely difficult to do well. The show was phenomenal and he not only fit Portnoy's shoes, he also had his moments of outplaying him. That's a lot coming from me because Portnoy had been an inspiration for me. They are both talented drummers in their own right, and while Mangini isn't as "showy" as Portnoy, he more than makes up for it with his technical abilities. Well played, and a GREAT show!!!!

@Djstereos2 While the motion may be easy, Mangini's consistency, speed, and ability to maintain the roll while changing hands is most certainly not!
