I wouldn't say it's an indisputable fact that the Republicans are to blame for this. The last couple years with the Democrats in control has shown me that they are as prone to corruption and sleezy tactics as the Republicans. People misunderstand the economic crisis so bad. First, it wasn't democrats or republicans it was both and most of it was from Greenspan and his goldilox economic policies of cheap money, low interest rates and inflation. It wasn't a failure of the free market, it was a failure of government and regulators which shouldn't be there in the first place because big corporations control them and they set up a system designed to benefit them.

I wouldn't say it's an indisputable fact that the Republicans are to blame for this. The last couple years with the Democrats in control has shown me that they are as prone to corruption and sleezy tactics as the Republicans. I would have known it sooner, but I'm young and new to serious politics. The fact that Obama wasn't a strong leader led to congressional misbehaviour.
The economic crisis was a private sector issue, influenced by government on both sides of the aisle.

Stop borrowing from one program to fund another; fix the problems in the first place. When we are in a recession, cut the salaries of the representatives and the government employees. Cut the perks. Start at the top and work your way down. Don't attempt to punish the working class with yet another tax. Private sector first.

In fact, you could take EVERY SINGLE DIME the top 1% earn, and it wouldn’t make any noticeable dent in the debt, whatsoever. FYI, the bottom 50% of income earners pay only 2.7 % of the income taxes collected in the US. You MIGHT want to stick to topics you know something about.

It actaully all started in 1989 when mortgages became tradable as securities. I could write a whole paper on the damn thing, but just take my word for it. Believe it or not, it was that DEregulation that set this into action. And that wasn't a dem/repub thing, it was just a government screwup, and they still havnt fixed it. Bush messed up by creating a huge defecit during economic expansion though. That was quite stupid.

First, it wasn't democrats or republicans it was both and most of it was from Greenspan and his goldilox economic policies of cheap money, low interest rates and inflation. the economy collapsed simply because banks were forced under the clinton adm. by the govt to loan to "inner city" people who who couldnt pay back the loans. and when it was time to pay the piper, most couldnt. so now the govt has to pay. these laws were created and put in place by democrats. they were called "sub-prime loans" only democrats supported them. banks originally wouldnt lend because they were "high risk", perfectly natural. not because "they are racist".

Considering that the last two years of Bush's presidency were under Democratic majority in Congress, the Republicans wern't in control. Bush could've passed laws to make this problem less of one but NO. You democrats HAD to block everything Bush could've done like it was going to contain porn in it. But that's not the biggest problem. The big cause was that people who couldn't afford homes got one anyway and didn't pay their loans. Then the companies supplying the loans failed b/c of such.

No but also banks were greedy. They tricked the people that couldn't afford a home into buying one. One example of what I said is my step mother. She never paid her bills and she always relied on my dad to pay for them. Once my dad couldn't take the fact that she treated me and him like shit, we left her. We got mail a month ago that the house was being forclosed due to the fact that my step mom couldn't pay for them 'cause she was too lazy to do so. There are more examples. It's not the govt.

To some extent, yes. Some of the "poor" people did fuck it up for everybody because they couldn't pay for the house they should've got. They could've just rented (like I'm doing now). It's either the poor people who knew they were unable to pay for the house or people like my step mother who were too fucking stupid and/or lazy to pay it.

Look at the economic collapse in Argentina over the past 20 years. They went from a socialist nation to privatizing nearly every industry. Ideally this would be good but the government was underpricing the value of the public property in exchange for millions of dollars in the pockets of politicians from the private businesses that were purchasing public Argentinian industries. Any move by political parties in a government to socialize or privatize anything should be looked at very carefully.

The Fed held interest rates low for too long following the attacks on 9-11. Holding interest rates low for a long time caused people to start investing in real-estate....treating it like a stock. It also gave rise to "no document" policies and other policies that gave people easy credit.
