  • set to fail solo... almost

  • WHEW... I LIKE THE DESIGN OF UR GUITAR...COOL...!!!

  • Clip yo damn nails!

  • strange guy :/

  • Wow, this dude is so rock n roll.

  • Play with me!

  • THOSE ARE ALL LICK 1!!!

  • @fenderboy01189 That's the point. It's the same lick in three different positions using the minor pentatonic scale.

  • Listen up dweebs.. Jimi Hendrix is the one who said he could learn something from another musician no matter how good or bad he played.. Perhaps all you EVH wannabe's should take the same approach. You may learn something. Although I do have to say he is one of the uncoolest dudes I have ever seen play the guitar.. :-)

  • @liquidmadau i feel you, i hate evh

  • hes a robot--new from G& L guitars model 996--omg lol

  • he makes playing the guitar look so uncool

  • hey i didnt that dude from fast lane daily played guitar? lmfao thrash is coming back hahah

  • I need more pentatonic licks!

  • Does anyone else use the pentatonics for metal????

  • @CAPcadetsouthworth

    ummm...kirk hammett?

  • @thentox I'm sorry but read up on music theory

  • He is the first guy who made ANY sense of Pentatonic scales for me. Now that I get it (after 6 YEARS!?) I'm feelin' pretty lame. Yup.

  • freeguitarvidz(dot)tk - change the(dot) to a real DOT or period - visit this site and download guitar video tutorials - Found it on the web just sharing it to you. - VOTE UP to let everyone know

  • Classic 1st 4th and 5th, though it's more of a bluesy sound (what else do you expect from a minor pentatonic scale moving in the 1, 4, 5 lolz), throwing in some phaser and heavier distortion, one could actually make a pretty good metal riff and/or solo from this riff. I think I might just have to give that a try, thanks.

  • You guys need to grow-up or get a job!

  • why isnt he playing diatonically? this isnt jazz...

  • Only one fucking lick :p

  • @SLee1337 so because i picture this guy playing with a different guitar and playing different music i dont play guitar or "respect it", wow this is definitely NOT a retarded comment...

did i ever say he was bad?

did i ever say he didnt know what he was doing?

no, i said he looked funny, so heres an idea: before you comment on someone elses comment saying its retarded, actually fucking read it first dipshit. heres another idea: stick your guitar that you suck at up your ass and fuck off.

  • lol this guitar totally doesnt fit him, i picture an acoustic with his mom in the background on drums on a church stage, blinkblinkblinkblink

  • that a long thumb nail...

  • i like the part when he blinks

  • nice little lesson

  • a total of 94 blinks, 28 of which were in the first 27 seconds

  • if the chord progression is G C D isnt it in the key of g minor and therefore dont u use the g minor scale for each lick but in different position? why r u effectively changing keys every chord change .? its not jazz

  • @Reznor13524 He's obviously playing vertically, moving with the chord changes. You're thinking of horizontal playing where you stay pretty much in the same area. Both methods are widely used in blues.

  • @JamesPhoenix88 not at all, hes changing key every chord change

  • @Reznor13524 Sorry let me rephrase, vertical movement is when you change key with the chords, horizontal movement (what you're thinking of) is when you stick with the root scale no matter what chords are being played

  • @JamesPhoenix88 k thanks i v never heard it described it like that. itsnt horizontal diatonic playing and vertical is jazz?

  • @dropeify It is a pentatonic scale. A pentatonic scale is when only 5 notes are in the octave. You can have a pentatonic scale in any key

  • i think you should say not the name of the pentatonic, becausa that pentatonic you used, is that A pentatonic, but you used it in different notes of the E string, so...

  • How did he do that way up high on the fret board..His frets are really wide on the 12th fret..Is this frankinberry jam..Those licks are so goober grape..Grape ape grape ape..Black sabbath is like full of grape ape licks except with claws cause his cutt off fingers..!aH

  • vogl is said like vogel in dutch wich means bird lol

  • @dodo4hire

in german "vogel" means bird ,too ;)

  • @Marci2110 no that is vögel or something i beleive. but at least germans and dutch people are neighbours of course our languages are quite the same! X_X

  • @dodo4hire

No! "vögel" means birds! "vogel" is one bird! i must know it :D i'm german :D

  • @Marci2110 well then my german sucks... wich my grades already showed me. since we gotta learn german cuz most of you can speak english... lazy bastards.

nah just joking. but u seriously need to learn english... i dont want my children growing up learning german and french and stuff in school. rather have em to properly teach the rest X_X

  • PEN TA TONIC SCALE!!!!! he pronounces that T VERY CLEAR!!!!

  • In what key is the backing track pls?

  • @BayerPowerslide G minor I believe.

  • Cool licks, certainly could be messed around with, too. Simple can be cool with the right backing.

  • Page lick # 1 MUCH?

  • he sounds like mr rodgers

  • great lesson, thanks!

  • Cool. Thanks!

  • Thanks for the vid, cool lick that is very diverse

  • just goes to show how much a backing track and drums can really make something so simple sound like it belongs lol, on its own not a very impressive solo, but in the band it has a home

  • Simple vid. It didnt seem like much, but when the big picture came together...it was great.

  • I really appreciate this video. Huge help to a beginner! Thank you! (Just ignore the comments from the wankers.)

  • DAPPER DAN!

  • LOLOLOL

  • lol, "im a dapper dan man; well isn't this a geographical oddity, two weeks from everywhere!"

  • what brand of hair gel do you use?

  • ONCE MORE!!

  • would help more by telling with frets n strings

  • dude you need to recognize i wich part of the guitar he is, by size of frets, and by sound.

  • Actually, if you know the pentatonic scale patternes, you could find the notes by matching the sound. He said he was in the first position of the scale, so you should be able to go from there...

  • so u can play that scale at any note and call it the root note scale?

  • Yes, its called a root note just for a point of reference, of course the scale is dictated by where you are on the neck put the you can start from whatever note of the scale you like.

  • that first lick sounds like a pink floyd lick

  • instead of repeating the same lick in different postitions and show the lick note for note : D

  • woah.. he cut his hair

  • something i can add into my solos! awesome :)

This is my first time seeing a Morman Rockstar lol.

  • Randy Bachman/BTO is a mormon ... yknow taking care of business

and then i'm not proud of it but Brandon Flowers from the killers is also mormon ... he's not so cool

but he played with the boss in concert which makes him way cool

also "The Jets" are lds and nobody knows them anymore but they were popular ... and uhh just cause this guy wears a button down shirt doesn't mean he's mormon

i mean i wear a button down on sunday but i wear a t shirt when playing guitar

  • he`s that good he aint finishing on the right note in the scale....finish on the root fool ...

  • who cares. It sounds good so why do that.

  • lol he looks all nice and his guitar is all hardcore.hilarious. it also looks like he had a recent pedicure.

  • Did you notice he keeps blinking.

  • @lonelym13 your pointing that out now makes it impossible for me to watch this video

  • @lonelym13 Last time I checked, blinking was pretty normal...

  • @lonelym13 morse code for S.O.S

  • @lonelym13 doesn't that mean he's not a reptilian alien?

  • @lonelym13 Doesn't everybody ?

  • @ariexmae Not every second.

  • thank yoiu

  • uh... english isnt my mother tounge, and i just cant figure this one out so... what is to "brush up" could you make a video about it please?

  • 'Brush up' is a phrase....

If you 'brush up' on something, you practice something you knew how to do but want to improve.

For instance, you have an English exam on Monday, the subject is Shakespeare. You already are familiar with it, but don't know it well enough yet. When you then revise for that exam, you are 'brushing up' on your Shakespeare knowledge. Hope this helps.

  • brush up is to refine, or improve

  • I'm just learning and I though he did a good job explaining it. It might be a little too easy for advanced players, but for a newby this is pretty cool to help get finger memory and feel like you are playing a lead, even if a small one.

  • good for beginners I guess, easy to learn and good sounding slow

  • If it's in Gm, what not play all 5 positions of the Gm pent scales. He seems to be playing pos 2 in C & D most of the time.

  • wait so for each different chord you have to use that pentatonic scale. for example if you use a d chord you have to start that pentatonic scale on the d note of the 6th string.

  • did he say hard rock? at 2:30

  • at the end the " once more" made a little sing and play part there...lol

  • haha your right , what a rock star

  • he´s actually half rocker..half jerk... xD

  • It's just one lick......................

  • i know...one lick= LAME

  • can anyone say me what is sloppy?

  • sloppy is the crap sound you get when you pick before you actually press the string correctly. the sound is not clear and makes you look bad. it happens a lot when playing fast

  • a ok thanks i didnt knew cuz english is not my native language

  • Peter ,You are a Gem ,20 yrs guitar , i wish i had learned this long ago

  • LOOOOL you are doing this to fast!

  • very basic, but you can play anything in between those chords to add your own personal style, great tutor, its the same melody but played higher and lower.

  • what does he play after the first bend? i cant understand him

  • omg

  • is he playing with his thumbnail?

  • great job. this is great.

  • Thats the most ridiculous *lesson* i've ever seen, its not difficult to think 'oh, i'll play the same thing, in position one of the scale of each chord'

  • Don't ever teach anyone you don't have a clue as to what it takes. This guy did a nice job of teaching one simple concept. Then later this would be added to another simple concept and then another and they would become more complex over time. That is what good teachers do.

  • nobody said this was an advanced lesson...this is a pretty standard blues progression, and its good practice to move your licks up and down the neck to gain comfort

  • i respect this guy personally.

    him and bert casey.

  • he could use his damn fingernails as a pick

  • these are very helpful, thanks for posting them

  • dude, it's the same lick, only moved from Gm to Cm and Dm along with the chords...

  • honestly this video confuses me... its kind of obvious that the pentatonic is moveable...

  • any and every scale is movable, but there's a whole lot of different scales but you'll never use all them or even half of all of them, just focus on developing technique, that is key to guitar success. Knowing what the scales are called, not very important, but knowing where they are and how to play them (modes) will make the all the difference

  • i hate how he emphasises the T in pentatonic.....ugh its like fingernails on a chalk board for me haha

  • he's got a deathgrip on that pick

  • It looks like he has a black magic woman in three different keys!

  • man that guy rock!!!! awesome lesson!!!!

  • he looks like Barney from Half life²

  • My God...you're right.

  • I hate the guy, but the lesson is great.

Seriously, grow a dirty beard or something.

  • haha at least a dirty beard, aatt lleeaasstt

  • fuckin eh, maybe needs to get rif od the comb over too

  • This guy is trying to teach people play guitar, and you're complaining about how he looks..? Grow up.

  • don't judge a book by its cover, i see?

  • Exactly:)

  • damn, put a wig and a stache on that guy... the name of the vhs he's promoting is something like "hard-rock: lets jam!" hahah nice lesson tho!

  • It's about pentatonic scales

minor and major pentatonic (5) you use only five tones ... this is for nickshizzle

    these are not diatonic scales

three licks in Gm Cm Dm ... listen to each sound (it's different) allthough the fingering (lick 1,2,3) stays the same

    thanx for sharing online

  • Peter I must be slow as i can't see exactly what strings you are playing and I would practice that a lot if you will tell me the strings thanks Gil

  • These are the best lessons ever!

  • good lessons

  • dont waste your time watching this. its stupid and all the same licks!!!

  • its a minor because it is not a major. majors have eight notes.(c major-c,d,e,f,g,a,b,c.one octave.)it is G because the first note is G.i hope this helps you LeJo82

  • hello Peter thanks for the instruction and i am taking lesson and understand about the scales and am trying to learn Pentation licks now . Could you tell me exactly where the slide is located which strings and frets?? Thanks Gil

  • omg has he got a carrot up his ass or what

  • he sounds so excited all the time.

  • creepy thin man from charlies angels hahahah

  • Question: The Gm pentatonic scale starts on the 3rd fret on E-string wich is a G not a Gminor. So why is it in minor then ? To me it looks like the first pentatonic scale played in G. Does that make any sense ?

  • iasthinkin the samething

  • Gm starts on g but has the key signature of its relative major which is asharp. in another way of explaining the notes played in the pentatonic are R - b3 - 4 - 5 - b7 where R is the root which is G the next note is bflat etc.

  • Thx for trying but you totally lost me. Minor, major sharp and flat all in one sentence. So confusing... I read your explanation like 10 times but I just don't get it. Maybe if someone could explain it in dutch... But thx again mate.

  • i could use an explataion to :)

  • he is kind of creepy though

  • they're all the same lick!!

  • that's the point

  • is this the same guy with the mullet in the other vid?

  • He's very creepy!

  • Sounds bluesy.

  • almost all blues songs are in a minor key, so any minor licks are probably ganna sound bluesy:)

  • Bloody cut your nails!

  • pastor vogl

  • haha he should get an award for least lkely person to play guitar but does im buckled at his hair lmfao

  • i bet he plays in a brutal death metal band.

  • lmao

  • rofl

  • hahaha :D:D

  • thanks for going slow with this lesson.

    I'm an OLD rocker!

  • Very handy. Thanks!

  • how CAN I TELL IF I SUCK AT GUITAR

  • if you still played blink 182 when you had beeb playin 4 a year

  • He He. Been playing 1 year. Passed that phase. I don't suck!

  • If you'd rather play guitar hero then real guitar

  • i second that motion

  • Is this guy high ? :D However very good instructions

  • no, ldpape. he isn't high. he should be tho.

  • Oh no, he lost his beautiful mullet...
