I installed a Western Digital Scorpio Black 750GB 7200RPM laptop drive into my 1005ha netbook and the speed increase is drastic. I can safely say that the i/o bottleneck is removed from the computer in day to day tasks.
I used hddscan to query the hard drive temperature and it only runs a few degrees warmer than the 160GB 5400RPM 1-platter drive that came with the computer. Go with 7200RPM drives or hybrid drive with onboard NAND flash, they don't use much more energy at all.
would this work great for listening to music and watching video in planes? and i know that the battery sucks im asking if the video lags while it plays and does the screen does a great job of showing pic and photos?
@TheRunning4life just so u knoe i have one and when i try to play videos in itunes it lags alot my older pc plays better videos than this and it does show nice pics but not like omg is so cool not like that and afvter a while they get slow :D
I strongly believe that a 9 cell battery doesnt exist yet in the laptop market/especially in netbook. I know that there is either 3 cell battery or a six cell battery for this type
WEll There is a 9-cell netbook battery in the Lenovo Ideapads, as for this asus 1005 yes the max is a 6-cell.... but damn !!! asus should make a 9-cell for it...
Only idiots walk around with a heavy, clumsy and ugly looking 9 cell. Smart people use an extra cell or an extra external power cell if they really need it. They only take them with them if they actually need more than 10 hours, which is seldom, unless they don't have a life like you who obviously stares more than 10 hours at his tiny 10 netbook screen all day...sigh
I would recommend 1005ha since the hp mini only last for 3-4hrs thus its heavier. Most reviews on the net clarify that this machine can go continously for 7-8hrs which is twice as much as the hp mini 110. Plus its thicker. The only thing that sucks about this computer is that it is prone to fingerprints if it is black/hp mini doesnt pick up fingerprints lol. I also believe that the power brick for hp 110 is larger than that of 1005ha
I purchased a few Asus 1005ha netbooks, 3.5 months ago from Best Buy, along with an LG portable DVD-RW. I love it. I take it everywhere; connect it to my LCD TV, and only wish it had an S-Video connection so that I could use it in my training facility. I find the keyboard comfortable to use; although I do not use the arrow keys. My sister owns the Toshiba N205, but prefers to work with the Asus for its speed and sound quality.
I got this netbook, and it has the best wireless network connection ever if compared to previous netbooks.
It is really fun to own one... i also use both windows xp and windows 7... dual boot. It is excellent. Also battery charge is amazing... i keep the charger at home when leaving in the morning for studies at school. I enjoyed every moment of it, owning 1005ha netbook. It mainly depends on your needs, remember it is not graphics pc, and not for gaming. Any thing else is fine.
i need the opinon of a asus 1005ha user. I had the laptop and sent it back. One thing that i thought was that the keyboard felt very cheap. Keys round the outside area of the keyboard sounded normal however keys in the middle area just about all the letters, sounded funny. Like they werent linked into there sockets properly. Can someone tell me if this normal with them/ would really like to know. Thanks
I love this version but i want to put a 256GB SSD in it i guess its going to be a pain, wonder if i can order one with a 256GB SSD in it already and make sure it has an Atom N280.
u should know that the 1008 has a dedicated battery (not removable) i guess you should go for the 1005 but you should consider other brands (hp) hp mini 110 or the new hp mini 311
My brother just got one of these and being he got grounded from it, it is my turn to play with it... so yeah the touch pad can be tricky sometimes, but if you do it right you can make it scroll by sliding your finger down the edge of the touchpad. the keys are slightly smaller, but it is easy to get used to. Overal it is a really good cheap netbook. personally I think it would be better than an hp (at same price comes with stupid linux not ubuntu) or a dell from what I just read :)
Well i just unboxed my Asus in blue, and has a problem in the screen :S (I was soo exited that now i just want it to be ok) The background has a white color with pink dots and where the blue is, theres navy blue dots....
Maybe because of money, batterylife and size? :D They are in different categories, this one is cheap and portable, and M17x is expensive and powerful.
Do you happen to know whether the Asus Eee 1005HA has a built-in UMTS module? In a YouTube report from a Germain fair they said that it was SIM-ready, but nothing in the internet, not even the Asus product page, seems to confirm this.

Hi Brad,
Do you happen to know whether the Asus Eee 1005HA has a built-in UMTS module? In a YouTube report from a Germain fair they said that it was SIM-ready, but nothing in the internet, not even the Asus product page, seems to confirm this.
Thank you for your remarkable vids.

There is a SIM card slot. On the demo unit shown in this video, it's not used for anything. There's no 3G support. But it will be an option on some units in the future. That's all I know about it for now.
