  • TRANSLATION part 2 b/c i cant fit it all:

    Why, I wonder, are you smiling,Smiling in your slumber deep?Are the angels on you smiling And beguiling you with charm,While you also smile, my blossom,

    In my bosom soft and warm?Have no fear now, leaves are knocking,Gently knocking at our door;Have no fear, waves are beating,Gently beating on the shore.Sleep my darling, none shall harm you Nor alarm you, never cry,

    In my bosom sweetly smiling And beguiling those on high...

  • TRANSLATION part 1 b/c i cant fit it all:

    To my Lullaby surrender,Warm and tender is my breast;Mother's arm s with love caressing Lay their blessing on your rest;Nothing shall tonight alarm you,None shall harm you, have no fear;Lie contented, calmly slumber On your mother's breast, my dear.Here tonight I tightly hold you&enfold you while you sleep

  • Brings tears to my eyes.

  • This is suppose to be a lullaby...

  • Heavenly sent from above!

  • anyone knows when this song was written?

  • @56ALEXX it's a traditional welsh lullaby with an unknown composer, but it probably has roots in the 17th century.

  • @witherwings14 Thanks !!

  • I was taught that the youth are more susceptable to spirits because they are still very pure. Maybe thats why their voices are so Angelic for a short time?

  • @whitesky0009 No it's called prepuberty post annoying little suck up

  • @adhdboy699 figures...asshole by nature.

  • The boy doing the solo at the beginning is probably the best I've heard. Perfectly in tune and a natural vibrato. Effortless and lovely.

  • The Kings College Choir sings always so beautiful.

  • i like this Song even i can't understand. bec. i'm pinoy

  • lol, dude to the left of the guy with glasses looks really confused

  • How can Welsh be softer than all the other languages in the north of earth. So Kindness!!! Better than in the movie...

  • i love song

  • this singer is better than james rainbird. (sorry james) but really what a lovely voice.

  • It gives one hope that in this world. This tiny planet which so many exist on can have the free ability to listen to something as moving as this and say to ourselves, Isn't this worth stopping all the fighting? Isn't this worth just stopping everthing just to listen to even for just a few minutes?

  • BEAUTIFUL!!

  • <-chills down spine- so beautiful---<

  • 2:50 the guy at the back in the middle looks a bit like Stephen Fry

  • so do you

  • you can here the p-51s a little

  • it´s not the voice from the film. the original singer is James Rainbird. He was a singer at King´s, too.

  • I love this song

  • just beautiful... so (i'm assuming it is, but...) is that the boy who's voice they use in Empire of the Sun? or just a child who sounds similar?

  • You sang a beautiful Welsh song brilliantly - thanks guys it is very sweet - diolch yn dda iawn iawn

  • Now I know the face behind the most beautiful voice I've ever heard, with the greatest note ever song. G.

  • wat beautiful voices they've got!

  • So many people relate to this song, which was used in "Empire of the Sun". Though few, if any of us have experienced what the film showed, universal themes of love, family, youth, loss, uncertainty, and reunion, touch us all. This song - about a mother's unconditional love and protection - contrasted with the horrors shown in the movie, making it all the more haunting and poignant.

  • Well said.

  • it must be all boys who havnt started puberty so they can sing like that

  • It is, none of these boys (or any boys in choirs) have started puberty, thats why they're in the choir, because they voices havent broken, you can see how young they are..

  • yeah thats y they sound so beautiful

  • 0:44 look how big that red haired kids head is on the left!!!!!!!!!!!

  • excellent !!

  • the version hes singing in english

    1.Sleep my baby, at my breast,

    'Tis a mothers arms round you.

    Make yourself a snug, warm nest.

    Feel my love forever new.

    Harm will not meet you in sleep,

    Hurt will always pass you by.

    Child beloved, always youll keep,

    In sleep gentle, mothers breast nigh.

  • Though I'm Polish I remember this song from childhood from Spielberg film. It was like a being in different world. I've got on my mind the scene with kamikaze. The sad story...

  • The boy's got a beautiful voice.

  • Suo Gan (Lyrics translate into English)

    Sleep in peace tonight, sleep,

    O sleep gently, what a sight.

    A smile I see in slumber deep,

    What visions make your face bright?

    Are the angels above smiling,

    At you in your peaceful rest?

    Are you beaming back while in

    Peaceful slumber on mother's breast?

  • The lyrics, in case anyone was interested. [If anyone notices any mistakes, please let me know. I don't speak Welsh; I got these lyrics from Wikipedia.]

    Huna blentyn yn fy mynwes

    Clyd a chynnes ydyw hon;

    Breichiau mam sy'n dynn amdanat,

    Cariad mam sy dan fy mron;

    Ni cha' dim amharu'th gyntun,

    Ni wna undyn â thi gam;

    Huna'n dawel, annwyl blentyn,

    Huna'n fwyn ar fron dy fam.

  • Suo Gan (Lyrics translate into English)

    Sleep my baby, at my breast,

    'Tis a mother's arms round you.

    Make yourself a snug, warm nest.

    Feel my love forever new.

    Harm will not meet you in sleep,

    Hurt will always pass you by.

    Child beloved, always you'll keep,

    In sleep gentle, mother's breast nigh.

  • Huna'n dawel, heno, huna,

    Huna'n fwyn, y tlws ei lun;

    Pam yr wyt yn awr yn gwenu,

    Gwenu'n dirion yn dy hun?

    Ai angylion fry sy'n gwenu,

    Arnat ti yn gwenu'n llon,

    Tithau'n gwenu'n ôl dan huno,

    Huno'n dawel ar fy mron?

  • Suo Gan (Lyrics translate into English)

    Do not fear the sound, it's a breeze

    Brushing leaves against the door.

    Do not dread the murmuring seas,

    Lonely waves washing the shore.

    Sleep child mine, there's nothing here,

    While in slumber at my breast,

    Angels smiling, have no fear,

    Holy angels guard your rest.

  • Paid ag ofni, dim ond deilen

    Gura, gura ar y ddôr;

    Paid ag ofni, ton fach unig

    Sua, sua ar lan y môr;

    Huna blentyn, nid oes yma

    Ddim i roddi iti fraw;

    Gwena'n dawel yn fy mynwes

    Ar yr engyl gwynion draw.

    Is there a version of Suo Gan sung by a woman?

  • There should be. Just search "Suo Gân" and you should find something.
