I like these old Pontiac commercials from the late '80s/early '90s. Pontiac did always try to be a little different from GM's other divisions, refreshingly different.
wrong wrong wrong. Penske backed out and now saturn is most likely being scraped. It wont really be missed but they did have some cool cars. The problem is too many 50 to 60 year olds bought them haha. Pontiac may be sold to a dealer owner who wants to take over the brand and closed factories
I had a 90 SSE, white with sandlewood leather, all the gadgets as if i were driving an airplane. The V6 was great they didn't make the SSEi yet so no supercharged motor but it was fast. Unfortunately the car was in an accident before i bought it, the dealer of course didn't tell me (i don't know if he even knew) i found out 3years later that the frame was cracked and i kept wondering why i always needed motor mounts anyway i sold it to a dealer. Did i tell the dealer?....................
DAMN!!! if only they made them that way today!!! i love how plush those leather seats look/feel! the old saying is true they just don't make them like they used to!!! i love GM and am so sad to see pontiac go! i heard rumors though that they may try to sell off saturn intstead of ousting pontiac but idk if thats true or not
You under estimate smart business men. Pontiac stood for one thing and that was performance. However, GM doesn't space apart their lines enough so everything looks and feels the same. They may phase it out but someone will offer them a lot of money due to the fact that it is an easily salvageable brand. GM would take the offer to because they are desperate
@budw84 Pontiac as a true carmaker died somewhere in the mid to late 1970's. From that time on right up to the miserable end, it was a just marketing division that sold rebadged Chevrolets.
By this time it was too late! Japanese car companies already had equal American car reliability and even surpassed it! The Japanese had the edge for the first time! And American companies didn't do anything solid to compete!
But seriously, air bags were a new technology back then and were not required. I drive one of these and they are solid steel and can hold up well in crashes. I love my Bonnie.
Acura steering wheels have over 10 buttons. But they also have damn small airbags that ain't gonna protect any decent sized person from the steering wheel. Those crash test dummies are pretty scrawny.
@Halo3lov3r I beg to differ because I got into a accident with a model of that year and to replace the steering wheel with the radio/cruise/and airbag was a hot dam 1200 dollars alone pinned to my insurance bill!!!!
This is the best version of the H Body cars..it really shows how Pontiac can take a boring basic GM design and make it look so much better..my grandfather had a 89 SSE..it was a great car
Car may have been ok but the interior was horrific. Acres of cheap plastic. I think GM started trying to copy BMW interiors instead of being original.
This was the ultimate crack mobile back in the day. Drop it to the ground, stretch out the wheels, get some gold rims, get the cheap blow-dry on saran wrap tint. That baby is good to go!
i still have my 1990 SE i love it too much to sell it lol i've had the car since i was 16, the car was a gift for helping someone fix a kitchen floor came with a new transmission, since i've had it only put $450 if not less in it, not bad for a car thats as old as me lol
remember in those days, that was advanced technology, having controls right at your finger tips no reaching involved. This was back when airbags was also a NEW technology.
This type of Bonneville was in fact very nicely put together. The interior is one of the nicest GM made back in the 90`s. Nicely crafted seats and a lot of soft materials for a smooth interior.
My grandpa owned one I love these "big boats" a friend of mine has hit a deer twice with his and it is still going!! That shows in pontiac's durability!!
although for an american car from that era... it wasn't bad... i would't have killed myself if i had to own one like so many cars in general back then... i mightve even enjoyed it
Wish these SSEs wern't to hard to find on the west coast...
