  • Truthfully, both versions of "Someday" are supreme (the 1969 version and this medley version from 1980). THE DIFFERENCE IS THIS: The 1969 version is from a young Karen Carpenter who's truly making a heartfelt promise to you, but the 1980 version is from a woman who (in all honesty) literally sounds like she's grieving and wanting YOU to promise her.

I'm NOT saying that she matured, I'm saying that you can hear her putting a darker spin to the words.

  • This version is from the 1980 Medley on the CD "The Essentail Collection" If you watch The Bacharach/David Medley from Australia, here on youtube (there are a few versions) it contains some of the songs from the CD. The song before this is "Make It Easy On Yourself" and after this song, it ends with "We've Only Just BegunO

  • Her voice, it just sounds so natural. And her singing and phrasing sounds so sincere and yet her voice doesn't over power the message of the song like so many female diva singers today who belt out these ballads and overpower the rest of the song. We know they can sing, but they don't have to go crazy with their voices. . . Watch Christina Aguilera's Star Spangled Banner in the last superbowl....too much....too much...

  • @Boltfiger you hear that christina? and whitney? and mariah? and aretha? and most of the contestants on "american idol"?

  • Beautiful early Carpenters song .. not sure what first part of video was all about

  • Just perfect: a beautiful song, a beautiful voice, flawless interpretation and arrangement. Karen's voice reaches my guts and my soul. And this is version is really better than the one recorded in 1969, however it doesn't contain the whole lyric because it was recorded for a medley. I wonder if she has recorded the full song in this session. Thank you for uploading this!

  • I miss Karen so much, I wish she was still around she was just PURE MAGIC, THE WORLD MISSES HER VERY MUCH! LOVE YOU KAREN YOU HAVE THE VOICE OF AN ANGEL! :)

  • What a voice Karen had! So sad she's gone, what a terrible loss.

  • This song is like, hauntingly beautiful.

  • It's my first time to hear it...and I'm immediately shocked... soooo much emotion just flow into my heart...

  • heard this song more than 25 years ago and had neer forgotten it...

  • This video means SO much to me, I just LOVE this song, it's simple yet perfect. And Karen, what an AMAZING, once in a Lifetime Voice. I will ALWAYS MISS HER! I'm thankful for the Legacy that She and Richard have left to us. Never have I heard a voice like Karens, SO rich and warm, she FELT what she sang and the listener FELT it too! Thanks again Florcha for sharing this beautiful video with us!! Mark

  • This segment, re-recorded in 1980 is far superior to her attempt in 1969.

  • @steveatl40 yah, i was gonna say....her voice sounds much more refined and beautiful in this version. sweeter too. absolute perfection.

  • Wow Very nice song and sung so sweetly by Karen Thank you for posting

  • You're welcome =)

  • very nice execution.............................

  • Can I find this version on CD?

  • Yes. It's on the Ticket to Ride album

  • As say ffidilwraig: The version completes of this song it's on the Ticket To Ride album

and This version cuts: Album: "From The Top" Disc Four (Medley 1978-1982) Album: "The essential collection 1965-1997"

  • Thank you.

  • You're welcome ;)

  • You can also find it on a 4 C.D. Boxed Set called "From the Top" it spans their entire Career and it's FANTASTIC!!This song is on the last c.d. of the four. It is a MUST HAVE for any Carpenters Fanatic! I hope you can find it and enjoy it. I bought it many years ago and still listen to it to this day. I never get sick of Karen's Majestic Voice and Richard's wonderful production. Never be another voice like Karen's so rich, warm it just touches your soul, at least for me. Thanks for sharing this!

  • I don't like the way Richard keeps changing the songs on all the carpenters collections for the past 20 years. Until he stops redoing them I won't buy any of their albums --except the originals, many of which are currently out of print.

  • Changes are very subtle and beutifully done. Keeps their sound fresh even after so many years. Richard knows his business well.

  • im also looking for it

  • You REALLY got to me I've heard this song before, but the pictures/video you used especially when you slowed down the part where she's alone and she looks thin and not too well and then she looks right into the camera w/those beautiful soulful eyes of hers. That was it the melody/words/images made me sob. I am a 41yr old Man and I grew up w/Carpenters and loving Karen and her immense talent. God, how I wish she'd had a chance to find true love and fulfillment in life n made more music.Thank you

  • Of nothing my friend, I estimate your words and i share them in 100 %

  • Karen s voice was great and her music was great if you didnt like it your the one that needs to have your ears tuned because you have no taste and your tone deaf

  • As John Lennon said on the way out of a popular eatery in LA in the seventies, as he ran into Karen,"I just want to tell you luv, that I think you have a fabulous voice"There are certainly many different taste in music,,but why in the hell would someone post comments on a band or singer just to say that they dont like them .

  • Let me simplify it -- Because you love her voice --- Is your personal taste --- Not that you have great taste and everyone else is wrong. Think about it --- The world does not revolve around you.

  • Just like the Grinch, your heart is several times too small.

  • Nice.

  • It is funny how tastes differ. I do not fel anything from this music. I feel everything from every Beatles Tune but nothing at all here,

  • Maybe I can simplify it for you. You don't feel anything listening to Karen's voice, because you have bad taste in music. Does that help?

  • all of my life..since a young girl.. i cannot say much more. its a rainy day and a monday.

  • I have felt those rainy days and monday since I was a child. Many times I felt like Karen was the only friend I had. This melody haunts my soul, and even now as I listen and cry I can close my eyes and see the face of the one I will love forever but can never be with or touch. Thank you for understanding that. But what happened to the gorgeous Someday vid with scenes from the haunting film Dandelion?

  • u just wanna grab and hug her and never let go. DAMN the media for ever saying she was overweight. perfection is a rare thing, and she was angelic

  • @deutche1978 DEFINATELY!

  • Wonderful backup harmonies from the O.K. Choral Singers, and marvelous orchestration to Karen's beautiful voice.

  • @jazztenor71 they sound like angels I love the choir, is that choir still around?

  • Simply beautiful.

  • This song haunts me, for it reminds me that although the one I love and I must be separated by circumstance and distance, one day our spirits will reunite, even if it is in the great beyond. I will be able to love him forever. Until then, I have his last kiss to remind me of him forever. Karen Carpenter's voice has been so deep within my soul since I was a child. This song gives me comfort when times get hard and my path grows dark. Karen's tragedy should not overshadow the beauty.

  • Beautiful song from a beautiful lady, taken away in the flower of her youth, but her spirit lives on in songs like this.

  • Oh, Karen- if you could only come back to us

from heaven, however we know you're in a much better place now. Quote:" When the song is

gone, the melody lingers on..." - forever.

  • Impresionanchiiiiiii Flor!!!! Belleza en estado puro: sublimes el tema y el video. No se puede pedir más!!!! Gracias x miles. Besos. Yermaaaaan.
