  • I am a grown ass man, and this moves me in so many ways.

  • I cry just about every time I hear this song. I've listened to it five times in a row before, and cried every time.

I really really want to preform this, but I don't think I could without bawling.

  • I now understand all the comments about this song making them cry. It hits you

  • this was a great song, however, I had not heard of this play before this. can someone tell me what it is about?

  • @obessedbookwormA2Z It's 2 different stories intertwined with each other. The character who sings this song and her boyfriend move in together, and then sort of break up, and this song is her telling her boyfriend why she ran away from him when he proposed. The other 2 characters don't know each other in the beginning of the show, and then become best friends. That's leaving out a lot of details, but it's all I can fit in this comment. Lol Message me if you want more details.

  • I saw her on Mamma Mia! as Donna and I've been a complete fan every since, and after listening to this song... I was completely swept away. Nothing more to say.

  • brilliant. just downloaded my sheet music! so grateful for amazing musicians-lyricists-poets.

  • Audra McDonald included this in her tour. It was incredible.

  • @elvenlove It was incredible, I was so happy when she sang it, I love this song!!

  • im crying! :"(

  • I lost my passion for musicaltheatre.....

    and then I saw this.

  • Seriously made me cry.

  • This is one of the greatest things I have every seen.

    Absolutely fantastic.

  • I'm interested to know about the one lyric change. In one version, she sees his Froot Loops on the shelf, and in this one, there's a storm cloud of papers from the sky. Either way, it's beautiful. And along the lines of what others have said, Ms. Brescia is kind of painfully wonderful; like, almost too real. Thank you both!

  • @AvalonMorley I'm pretty sure the version where she mentions his Froot Loops on the shelf would be the "concert version", since it makes it more of a stand alone song. Whereas, the storm cloud of papers is mentioning the specific moment in the show that happened right before she sings this song. The same thing is done for the song "Calm". The concert version eliminates any mention of Warren and has more generic lyrics that don't tie it to the plot of the show.

  • @chadb429 Thanks for replying, since I don't know the show (though have listened to many of the songs here). I figured it must be something like that. How does the 'paper storm' come about in the show? And is the show written as a fully-staged piece, or as a kind of semi-staged concert song cycle? Guess I need to research about productions of it (of which I don't think there have been any where I live, in Dallas, TX). Lovely songs, anyway.

  • @AvalonMorley If you watch the video for "Rooftop Duet/Falling", that is the scene that happens right before this one. Basically, when Warren and Deb start throwing the flyers that Warren makes off the roof, they cause both Jason and Claire to see the "storm cloud of papers". Seeing this brings back a lot of memories for Claire and she decides to finally reveal her past to Jason.

  • @chadb429 Thanks again. I really appreciate the replies, and am going to get to know this show and its score better.

  • @AvalonMorley The production I saw was fully staged, but done very simplistically which I personally think is the best way for this show to be presented. Too much attention paid to elaborate sets and lights would be too distracting to the songs and the way they develop the characters, which you get a really great idea of from these videos. It was one of my favorite musicals when I first heard it and my obsession with it grew even stronger after seeing a production of it.

  • What a touching performance of a stunning song. So wonderful. Thank you!

  • Made me cry. she's a wonderful actress! wow.
