  • Hi Tim, I will be making a permanent move to NH with my American wife later this year and I am a bit of a DIY fanatic. I have been getting your Newsletter for some time now and the information they contain is invaluable.

Your videos are always informative and well presented. It's good to see what is available on the US market as the building techniques here in the UK are completely different .

Great product and video, keep up the good work, your opinions and hands-on expertise really do count!

  • @DEFT61 Well, welcome a little early! Let me know when you get here. You'll have to attend one of my meet ups here in NH.

  • Can you walk on it?

  • This looks like a great idea but I wonder if it may restrict moisture movement through walls. Will this trap moist air in the walls if a vapor barrier is also used inside? I've seen some horrifying videos of mold and water damage in homes built with OSB/styrofoam panels. They all had some defect or leak that allowed water or condensation to accumulate with no route for drainage or evaporation. Assuming that no home is perfect (a reasonable assumption), could this be a potential disaster?

  • Great info...did not know that this option existed!!

  • As always a very informative video. Love your videos and columns.

  • Always interested in the latest products for builders.

  • Not enough information to determine if I would want to use the product on my house. Presently planning a new waterfront home and always interested in hardy/durable products that will stand up to the harsh environment.

  • @Mrjlcarter3 Good point. If, during your search, you discover an OSB product that has a BETTER coating than this one for hurricane-driven rains, by all means PLEASE COME BACK here and comment. I want to know what it is.

  • Great videos. Does this make the roof too slick to walk on? I thought I saw some dings in the finish. Can it handle the normal wear and tear of roofer buckets and mason bricks and cement pails?

  • @McCarthyMtn It's absolutely more slippery than plain OSB. Just read the mfr safety warnings and instructions on what to do.

  • I have always liked your videos and your great job that you do for all of us by showing us all these tricks and not only. I pray for you to have a long good healthy life. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.

  • Like to see new products always need new tricks for us old dogs !! very enlightening jon

  • Great to be able to keep up with all the new products!

  • Good info, go you still need to use felt before installing a composition shingle? Also, does the wall panels have a drainage plain?

  • @schillercharles Felt can be a code issue, it can be a warranty requirement for shingles, and it is a BEST PRACTICES material. You make your decision based on all those factors. The wall panels in this video had no drainage channels.

  • What about the nail holes that go into it when putting on the shigels on this new sheathing ? Is anything done diff. for that? Fig. i'd ask being the tape for the seams.

  • @RobbinMoede Nothing needs to be done for the nail holes. Remember, the coating is a LAST DEFENSE. You should never have to rely on it except in a dire emergency.

  • I would think this makes the roof extra slick

  • @jlm993 Indeed it does.

  • love the hat!

  • I did receive one youtube notice today, but I generally look for articles of interest on facebook before I check your videos. You do a fantastic job!

  • @bjslater2 Thanks for your kind words!

  • That's a neat building system. I bet it would pay for itself in savings just from creating a tighter envelope.

  • We used to call OSB Out Side Board...amazed at how many grunts would believe us

Here in the south where it gets really hot, we sometimes would use OSB sheathing on the roof that was foil backed in which it laid foil side down. You could tell a giant difference working inside one with and next door a house without the foil backed OSB sheathing.

  • Are furring strips needed for siding or shingles?
