  • A sports car is different from a performance car. Sporty means better than average handling and acceleration when compared to economy cars. Performance means having a powerful engine with near track-ready components. Economy cars alone are actually much quicker and more responsive relative to many low and mid-priced cars on the market 15 years ago. Ever drive an old Corolla or Civic? Today's Elantra is like an Audi S4 compared to them in the 90s and earlier.

  • @andrew98us im sorry but 135hp still isnt very sporty. for example, the new tC has what, 180, 190hp? and i dont consider that sporty at all.

  • looked like it struggled to get to 65

  • 197hp at the crank yes. More like 160 at the front wheels with hardly any torque. It's slow.

  • Toyota Corolla.. 0 - 142..

  • This engine is great, it only needs a manual transmission.

  • @Jakeman2164 actually you'd be surprised once you get behind the wheel of a corolla s. i too judged it for its so-so specs, but my corolla s has QUICK pickup and excellent turning due to the stock strut bar. Also the ride is great due to the macpherson suspension.

  • @WOWstevoo i drove the older model and i have to say that i liked it. but it had over 200,000 miles on it and could barely take hills. but i dont think thats a problem with all corollas, just the fact that this corolla was basically overdriven

  • @thweepz yeah i live in an area with A LOT of hills and they've never been a real challenge to overcome

  • @WOWstevoo they arent bad cars. i was in a yaris and the gearbox was sloppy. the corolla i think is a bit better

  • Has 132hp. Reason why I say this is one of my friends has a 2006 cobalt and we raced and I beat him. Maybe he had a base engine or something but I took him.

  • not as bad as an aveo or base cobalt, but remember, corollas are not speed cars, they are reliable gasmizers. I drove a 2010 le, and it was a beast in the snow, and although not the fastest car I have ever driven, It still had some pep. Corollas are still good cars, and are still the best selling car in the world.

  • @bpurdy305 what the fuck are you talking about? I have an '09 Cobalt and it has 155hp/150lbs. This thing has like what- 120hp??

  • which engine sounds louder from 0-60? the 2010 coroola s or the 2012 sentra special edition?

  • @dop13ify DONT THINK ABOUT BUYING THEM.

  • @pistolierer well ma bro has a 2012 sentra special edition and my cuzin has a 2010 corolla s, i mite ge t one of the 2 later on in a few years. which should i get n y?

  • @dop13ify Why don't you just ask which sounds more ricey? Because that's all I took away from that question.

  • my old 04 corolla is faster then that

  • this car is seriously outdated and being slaughtered when compared to other cars in its class anybody that buys one of theses isn't doing there research

  • @victoriadish Their NOT There!

  • I bet it couldn't even fall off a cliff at 140mph.

  • corolla S get the same 1,8 then the regular corolla. Xrs get the 2.5

  • @LewisAlk3 The XRS isnt made anymore.

  • This car should only have an 80mph speedo. Who the hell goes faster than that in this kind of vehicle other than ricers?

  • ahahahahahahhaahaha

  • i got a 05 corolla S and it does 0 to 60 in 8 seconds... what the hell did this do 11

  • @sprinkler5802 haha whats the s for? slow? hehehe i crack myself up

  • @ColtonKuhn1 dont talk about my corolla slow

  • @sprinkler5802 hahaha im glad you have a sense of humor!!! :)

  • @ColtonKuhn1 if i didnt i would go insane

  • the heck? this thing and the hyundai elantra sounds exactly the same o.O

  • New car, and a bulb has already failed -_-

  • @573W1E6R1FF1N not all cars are perfect right after leaving the factory. while its under warranty, bring it to an authorized Toyota service center and complain :) probably you already knew that ...

  • @DKRaFiQ Yeah I understand that, but you don't expect it. I mean if I bought a new car, I would not want to be taking it back to the dealer within a few days

  • i will never drive a toyota

  • @ColtonKuhn1 im guessing that your an american car fanboy?

  • i think my Radio-controlled lp-670 lambo murcleiago sv is faster

  • thats a good paper weight leave it in japan

  • That Corolla Runs like a Tank!

  • I FELT THAT TORQUE BRO

  • 9.3 - 9.4.

  • @Limbsy ??? no!!! i got 10.4

  • i could out run that piece of shit with a pair of nike on

  • lol it took like 9 seconds??? not bad for a car that can run for 300k miles i guess.?

  • my grandmother can walk faster than this...lol!!

  • @gladiatorsworn on a perfect day under perfect conditions and perfect shifting i could prolly pull off a descent mid 6. All the "spec sites" say its 7.6 but i really believe thats pulling from a stop normally (no revving up, clutch dropping or tire spinning what so ever) cuz theres no way. when i drop the clutch from about 3600 and get real nice powerful shift I always hit 60 before the 7 second mark.

  • I love how these days, car companies make small, ugly cars, with tiny, pathetic engines, but throw in a manual transmission and call it sporty, just because it's the "S" or "Si" version. Sorry, but sporty would be something with more than 110HP.

  • @CarbineGuy Well, seeing how gas is close to $4/gallon kinda makes more sense to commute in a smaller car these days, and a 5spd works a lot better than an auto when you're working with a 4 banger. Plus both models you're mentioning have more than 110hp. Helps to research before you post.

  • @brobinson75 The statement about horsepower was a general statement, not directed towards the Corolla itself. My point is these cars are nowhere near sporty at all. You get good mileage, but that's about it.

  • @CarbineGuy The Civic Si has a lot more than the Civic. The 9th generation is both good on fuel economy and is quicker than some cars that roam around the streets. The Si can be quick and have the potential of reaching a 0-60 in 6.4 if the driver is good at shifting and launching. I would say that the Si is pretty sporty considering that it is in the price range of $22,000. And the Si has well over of what you say is "110HP".

  • @Vincent19083 Oh for sure the Civic Si is a lot more respectable, I was sorta speaking in general with some companies these days.

  • @CarbineGuy Oh alright i took it the other way my bad. Yeah, other car companies barely reach the 150hp mark and call it sporty.

  • @CarbineGuy The Honda Civic Si has 197HP...lol.

  • @iKnollex Already said, i was kind of speaking in general, not hating on the Civic Si specifically.

  • @CarbineGuy Yep, sure thing.

  • @CarbineGuy These days cars don't kill you when you crash them, they don't ruin our atmosphere to minimal extent, they easily last twice as long, they're refined and vastly well designed, and they have have FAR more power (Ford 302 in 1981 had 138HP to haul 3 tons (LTD, most powerful engine option), while a new Civic has 140HP to haul less than half that. Everything is awesome about newer cars, but whatever; there were cheap cars "back in the day" too, but they sucked much worse.

  • @wootness3000 *maximal instead of minimal (Damn iPhone.)

  • @wootness3000 Well that's all inevitable, that's technology! I'm just saying, technology has also given us a lot of much more 'sporty' cars out there, that are actually sporty, unlike cars like this and the Corolla S, and even Si.

  • @CarbineGuy They've been doing that for ages, that's not new to the last 25 years.

  • @wootness3000 Calling a really slow car sporty? Back then maybe because all cars were pretty much slow, but technology now allows for much faster cars, so sport shouldn't be a car with a 9 or 10 seconds to 60.

  • @CarbineGuy So you think it's just the engine that makes the car sporty? That's a very American view on it, for sure. The "S" version of the Corolla even has TRD suspension options, making it handle better. I'd call that car "sporty" with a 132HP 1.8L, 15" alloys, lip spoiler (because appearance is why someone buys a sport model anyway), 5-speed, and the TRD suspension. It might not be fast, but it would certainly feel sporty.. and that's what counts in a small car.

  • @wootness3000 i agree with you

  • @CarbineGuy Did you know that in the mid 70's the Stingray Corvette was rated at 165-180HP? They really weren't that fast, and in other countries that have even smaller engines for the same car this particular car is very quick. So Sportiness is relative.

  • @wootness3000 What I'm saying is, today, sporty is something that is a lot faster, because technology has allowed for cars to be faster. (Anything with a sub 6-5 second 0-60 time) So why should a car with a 9 second 0-60 time be called sporty when we have cars that hit 60 twice as fast? Doesn't matter if it's a 4 cylinder turbo GTI, or a 5.0L V8 mustang, they're all far more sporty, and a lot faster.

  • @CarbineGuy You're back to engines. IMO suspension and handling characteristics are what makes a car Sporty, and the engine is what makes it fast. I've driven this Corolla, and while it's only peppy, it handles fantastic. A car can be Sporty and fast.. it's all relative.

  • @CarbineGuy Actually toyota corola has 135 HP

  • @andrew98us It was a very general statement...

  • @CarbineGuy well you said something that is more than 110 Hp you call sporty and toyota corolla is 135 HP, so its sprorty...

  • 0:14 for those who are impatient

  • Oh no... It's a combat karl...

  • @trento728 cool nice car. i just a 2011 kia forte koup 6 speed manual with 156 hp and 144 tq and its 0-60 is 6.9. not bad for only 156hp out of a 2.0 i4. check out my vids i recorded my 0-60. the cars completely stock too

  • @trento728 corolla is a 1.8 i4 tC is a 2.5 i4

  • @gladiatorsworn with some good shifting and cool dry air i'd guess about 6.7-6.9. The spec sheet says 7.6, but I really believe that's without revving the motor before dropping the clutch. There's not much for torque there, and with most of the power being between 4400-8250 rpm, the car is much quicker 0-60 if you drop the clutch between 4000-5000 and feather the gas after take off to hold traction (no limited slip)

  • they shourld really think about putting the new tC's engine in the corolla

  • dude is that the new xrs with the 2.4 or the ce/le/s with the 1.8??? I have a 06 xrs with the 1.8 2zzge and its wayyyyy faster than that...

  • 140 mph, don't think even down a hill could it reach that speed.

  • my granny drives this

  • Let the records show that the Toyota Corolla is not a race car. It's prime objective is to provide excellent fuel economy, which I say it does pretty well, averaging between 20 and 35 miles per gallon, depending on if you're a highway or city commuter.

  • lol, my dad has one of these. thing has no balls and governs out at like 114. its a fun little car though around corners and such. and on the spedometer, 150 in a corolla is a bit odd, but my parents had an 03 volkswagen eurovan which had the VR6 motor i believe and the spedometer said 160 hahaha. needless to say, it was designed to keep up with traffic on the german autobahn from what i was told.

  • it took about 9.7 seconds

  • an embarassment to toyota

  • You wanna see an optimistic speedometer? Look at a 4th gen Jetta. 2.0L, 115hp, and yet it has a 160mph speedo. xDD

  • @bobbertobber Its probably the same speedo as the fastest car of its type.... mine says 160 and does 130 (1.8) but its same speedo as 2.0L turbo which does about 152 i think.

  • @bobbertobber lmfao thats sad

  • @bobbertobber dudee my friend used to have one of thse and he was stupid enough to think that meant it went over 160 just cause the speedo read that high -____-"

  • @bobbertobber yes but the thing cant even hit 120

  • Are we at 60 yet?

  • @Hellvin It's not that complicated, all it takes is some common sense. Don't be saying my english is contradictory.

  • Wow... that um, sucked, my 2000 cavalier is faster and i can barely get past 60 without flooring it! :) lol

  • @bengals737 your english is contradictory. care to explain?

  • @bengals737 thats really sad because cavaliers are horrible.

  • I think my lawn mower is faster

  • @KmartGuitar My Tahoe is slower though. :(

  • wth my old 2000 corolla was 2s faster than this. it was 400lbs lighter though

  • its the next veyron guys stfu

  • never been a fan of the corolla.

  • Toyota Corolla's are Good For Around Town.....they are not that Great for Freeway and Highway Driving.

They are Slow as Hell getting up to 70 Mph.

  • OMG the car is self accelerating.

  • That second gear really sucks. I'd guess you'd use 2 and 3 to hit 60 in a manual and do it faster. Doesn't matter, of course, no one buys a manual Corolla, and if they do, they won't ever race to 60 ... or any speed :P

  • I died of old age waiting for 60 come.

  • I would rather have a 2008 Mercedes clk550 amg. Oh wait! I do!!!! Hahaha

  • @mozarkozark oh wait your also a homo for driving a mercedes...

  • @xWOODYHAYESx and you drive....what?

  • @mozarkozark well if you saw my videos you would see what i drive... and im trading that in for a mazdaspeed 3

  • @xWOODYHAYESx you drive a red lawnmower with a wing on it.... how boring. but i guess the horn on the exhaust makes that 1.8L engine sound as exciting as a person having "wet farts".

  • @mozarkozark actually its not a 1.8l its the 2.0l vtec si. 200hp and its got impressive power for a 2.0 4 cylinder

  • @xWOODYHAYESx VTEC JUST KICKED IN YO!

  • @xWOODYHAYESx get a lotus elise instead of the mazdaspeed 3. it has a four cylinder too but at least it is faster than the honda and the mazda. you'll be turning heads too

  • @mozarkozark yea but more expensive

  • @mozarkozark liar lol

  • im gonna need a calendar for this

  • So what? It's not THAT slow. Yeah of course it's not a damn mustang, but if you really want a slow car check out a Nissan Cube. Stock 0-60 is damn near 14 seconds.

  • @ncs553 its a sub-compact urban car, not a 0-60 in 3 seconds kind of car...i'll dumb it down for most of the retarded people commenting: it not fast car and it not meant to be fast car :P

  • gosh my moms chrysler town and country can do better than this

  • I hate it when someone give me the right of way cause it take for ever to pass them on my corolla.

  • @MrRedskins0021 so true i love passing people in my 98 Tercel even on corners!!!

  • I think the 140mph speedometer is a bit optimistic

  • @desimunda116 hahah just a little i have a 2003 matrix manuel base 1.8 but still faster and stronger than any auto corolla and its speedo is120 and ive never gone over like 105 and it takes for ever after 90 aka 4th gear ;}

  • @desimunda116 i think the 100 mph marker is a bit optimistic

  • @desimunda116 actually is 150

  • @desimunda116 U GOT 2 HOOK UP DA CAR IT PROB GO 155

  • @carguytwinturboSTi what in? kilometres lol

  • @Markyboi1992 no mph drop a 6 speed rebuild engine turbo maby smoke a sti

  • @carguytwinturboSTi A decent STI is about 4.0...

  • @desimunda116 Its no different then all Small jap cars. They all have optimistic speedometers, along with many Chevys

  • @desimunda116 agreed

  • @desimunda116 Actually it's 150mph.

  • @desimunda116 actually 150mph haha

  • @jakebrian12345 haha true that my bad

  • @desimunda116 lol =) hahahahaha

  • @desimunda116 UR WRONG MY 05 XRS COROLLA IS BONE STOCK IT HAS THE CELLICA S MOTOR AND DOES 146MPH NO CHIP 6 SPEED FWD AND WHATS WEID IT HAS 68,000 MILES AND THE BRAKES WONT WEAR ITS CRAZY ALL 4 ARE DISC AND IM THE ONLY OWNER GOT IT BRAND NEW ! SO UR HALF WRONG

  • @TKOEST89 where in this video did he say he was driving an xrs? its just a regular corolla. just like the civic si is a really fun car to drive, but the regular civic is weak..the corolla xrs is fun to drive whereas the regular one is weak, but the xrs from 05 and 06 were beast, the new xrs' are just regular ones with a body kit

  • @desimunda116 AND THE NEW XRS AREN'T STICK MINES 6 SPEED AND I SMOKE CIVICS AS SOON AS I HIT 2nd LOL BUT I LOVE HONDAS TOO

  • @TKOEST89 i know my Si isn't gonna win many drag races but I bought it because it was affordable, fun to drive, and still gets decent mpg

  • @desimunda116 Si are the shit like i said i love hondas to i had 98 civic swaped with ls but that got me 4500$ in tickets not for speeding it was candy red on black rims but i miss it every day so ur lucky to have yours

  • @desimunda116 true

  • Roughly 11 seconds from 0-60. 4Sec in video as start point while 15 second in the video as end point.

And for all you people that hate on a Toyota Corolla for the 0-60 acceleration should leave. This wasn't made to race. It was made as a cheap small family car.

  • id rather walk

  • LOL my dodge caravan would kill that !

  • make sure that gas pedal doesn't stick on you!

  • @lespaul12001 Lol, from what that vid shows, you got nothing to worry about :P

  • @lespaul12001 that was the excuse the elderly drivers used (average age of corolla buyers is retired to dead), because they weren't smart enough to put their slushbox auto into neutral

  • @RT360ci Amazing how many people drive cars every day and don't know what neutral is. I don't get it. When you're piloting thousands of pounds of metal, you owe it to yourself (and everyone else) to actually understand how they work. I feel bad for people and families that were killed, but it's really a failure of the driver's to know an important basic premise of their car.

  • a ford fusion hybrid would smoke this car

  • @victoriadish and my supra yours!

  • Comment removed

  • @victoriadish ya, i have an 09 ford fusion sel V6 and it would destroy this shit Corolla. Got the vids on my profile to back it up

  • @Gerberbaby922 Mine would too.

  • Driving one of these things right now as a rental... Its' blandness is second to none - The feeling is like eating mayonnaise, drinking water, listening to elevator music and living in Dubuque, all at the same time! This car has NO soul. Don't have a problem with imports, but I do have a problem with cars that have NO character. No faults, no points of praise. It's nothing but an appliance.

  • takes about 5 years?

  • @eraserheads78 depend on ? r u serious? the crolla electric steering is known to change lanes all by its self when you really dont want it too, that and the airbag may not work+possibly sticky gas pedfal=NO FKN WAY I BUY THIS CRAP

  • is this faster than my 4 cyl Grand Am? i dont think so... check my vids

  • hahah i love how ppl complain how slow it is, its a fucking toyota, they are made for regular pppl. regular ppl usually own atleast one toyota or foreign car in an american family. lol you dont buy em thinking theyre fucking bomb mate you buy them being perfectly fine konwoing you just want a car. relax

  • 0-150 should be half an hour...

  • @isnotavailable1 false, corolla will never ever make it pass 100 even going downhill :)

  • @isnotavailable1 nah 0-150 would be a month!

  • @isnotavailable1 it would be a lifetime LOL

  • lol the auto on the corolla sucks, because its a 4 speed auto the gear ratios have to be tall as making it suck at acceleration, get the 5sp manual

  • damn thats a long gear

  • Let people drive what they want to drive. It's all in the purpose of what you need the car to do for you. You don't need to see how fast your car comes off the red light around the corner from your house. No one even drives like this is normal life. just a test.

  • @george95458 i drive like this every day in my mazda 6. sure, i get 12 mpg, but it's a hell of a lot more fun than driving how you do.

  • Well cool, I inherited my mom's old '96 Honda Odyssey after she bought a new car, we bought it brand new back in the day and I don't even think I could push it to drive like that. LOL.

  • lol damn that sucks. yeah i'm 17 and my grandpa gave me his 2004 mazda 6 3.0 v6. it actually has performance that could rival a hot hatchback, despite it being a midsized sedan.

  • @coolerdude44

Toyota is so over rated. Drove a 2006 Corolla S a few weeks ago & I couldn't stand it. It may be quick for the 1st 2 seconds but after that, so slow. I almost redlined trying to merge onto a highway of cars going over 75MPH & thats something I'd never have to do with my old 96 Town Car.. And the comfort is terrible. It was like driving a Go-Kart. Don't feel the least bit sorry with what Toyota is going through.

  • @Intechdude300

Realistically, what were you expecting? It's a Corolla.

  • @nine9sixSPS

Not much at all. It was an S Model. I guess the S stands for Slow...

  • @Intechdude300 lol, I guess. Not a fan of them, but I wouldn't fathom them being fast. I think the XRS is the 'sporty' model, though. The "S" model has wider tires than the base-model, and some cosmetic changes.

    Either way, slooow. =)
