I sincerely HATE this car. The speedo is on the passenger side of the car. I decided to slam the door as hard as possible to get that hollow tin can sound..pulled a back muscle!
I have a Vitz 1.0 Litre (Japanese import Yaris), not the 1.5 Ltr that you Americans get, and it's terrible. It's my first car and all that crap, but I hate it. I'll never buy a toyota when I get a car of my own. built cheaply, handles like a dog, and for fuck's sake don't get the automatic. it guzzles gas and hangs on gears. The car wasn't my choice. but I'm stuck with it.
The competition has surpassed Toyota and even if the 3rd generation Yaris comes out Toyota will struggle to gain back all the customers that were pissed off with poor quality, service and recalls.
HONDA is sucks with my yaris I've beaten many honda cars like jazz/fit, city type z, city, CRV they are completely sucks, beside honda cars like VW beetle, suzuki swift, even a BMW... toyota yaris is briliant car and my yaris is in normal condition no modification since 2008 until now 2011... eat that honda driver....
I'm getting 39.5 MPG overall average and up to 43 MPG highway.. I am using mobile 1 oil and keep the tires inflated to specs on the door jamb.. Easy to park and roomy for a small car. Mine is an auto but sometimes I wish it were a 5 speed. It is a great gas saver!
I don't get it why in the US the same models that are in Europe always have a bigger option package in Europe. In the US, you only have a 1.5 litre motor while here in Europe we have a 1.0, 1.33, 1.5, 1.8 and a 1.4 diesel.
I agree with Ttran778,the guy in the video is mistaken.I bought my yaris in 2007 never have noticed it slow up hills or the air blows cold even up hill also, the car is awesome!
I bought one about a year ago, it has been a great car for student guy like me but I am getting bored of it. I think is stupid to compare the yaris with a versa, fit or aveo....... why?
because it's the same freaking car .those cars are made for people that don't want to spend too much money or can't afford an expensive car...so those are great cars for their price, they are economic, affordable and credit builders if you are financing a car for first time.
I just bought a yaris.... I always wanted a Toyota cuz my family lives by them that they are dependable good cars that last you a life time. The only one I could afford out of the toyota family was the Yaris even though I really wanted a Corolla, and I was wondering did I get a good car that will last me a long time as well as did I make a good investment?
I LOVE my 2008 Yaris. The engine is MORE than powerful enough. Don't know what this guy is talking about. It's NOT under powered. No problem getting up to highway speed with 4 people inside and the air-conditioning going full blast!!
Exactly- Americans are fat (so they need an engine with 50% greater displacement to move them along) and Lazy (so they need a 4 speed automatic as apposed to a 5 speed manual) and stupid hence the need for the analogue dash in place of the digital one)
As far as climbing hills, I live in a very hilly area, so I have to climb all the time. It takes the hills with 5 pips inside easily. I drove it in snow, mud, rain, u name it... I also have no problem getting on and off highways safely, as well as keeping up with speeds. So, I'd say if u dont care what everybody (and most people are retarded anyway) think of you, you want a small comfy car, get a Yaris. Oh yeah, and crappy drivers will always find a way to complain about their cars. Cheers.
I have this same car and im 5'11 people regularly give me strange looks and even laugh at me when im driving it. Is it because its a girly color or am I too tall for it or something. I know its practical but I cant be getting laughed at all the time.
Yaris is not a bad car...but it is really overpriced for what it is....for that money you can a buy something way better. In addition, the interior design is very boring and the materials are very cheap. A lack of taste, I'd say.
Well, everything depends on your available market.....For example in my available market, I will buy a Suzuki Swift or SX4, or a Hyundai Elantra or i30, maybe an i20. If I put a little bit more money, a Honda Fit. There are many options for a better car for the same or less price, maybe for a few hundreds more, but with options that really worth paying for them.
You're right. I was looking this up and saw the Nissan Sentra, which costs 15k (the same as the Fit), and it comes MUCH better equipped and with more horsepower output. I also think it looks better.
if you want the most reliable vehicle for your money over the long run, don't bother with the lancer. It's a great car, but it has some cheapness to the interior and has never had a reputation for being super reliable. Just keep that in mind. much love :)
i agree 100%. i got a yaris as a loaner car. its not bad at all, but def not worth 14k or whatever brand new. i bought my 05 6 cylinder mazda 6 for 12,500 and its got everything except nav. in the yaris' class id buy a honda fit instead. beats it in every category. my only gripe against the yaris is that the highway power is really bad, but thats to be expected from a 1.5 liter. its surprisingly quick around town and a breeze to park
@steavedaver - im stuck on which car i want as a first car, but this looks good dosent it? im 15, so im figuring out what i like. But if i get this, it would definately be the 3 door. it just looks better.
yes ii have a friend that has one but he has the 4 door and its about the size of 4 smart cars put togeather... so if you were planning on going to high school in this, then your insurance wouldnt be that high and it would be able to get up and go when it needs to.
toyota is making most of all there cars and trucks in canada so i would go with them if i were you.
I just bought one and have passed five transport trucks going 150km/h on the 2-lane highway (about 93mph), and felt about as safe as my 2.2L Cavalier doing so...
Even with the 1.5L engine, it seems to have about the same acceleration as the 2.2L Cavalier, probably due to the weight difference. It makes a lot of noise while doing so, but can do it!
I want this car sooooo bad!!!! I've been obsessed with it for a year!!! The Yaris is soooo much better than the Honda Fit, definately no comparison!!!!
Design is a matter of taste. Yaris is probably designed for the european market. As a european myself, I like it a lot. The Honda fit is probably more for the US market, you see it a lot less out here than the toyota. Other example: toyota yaris sedan isn't even sold out here, as sedans are less popular among small cars.
I drove the 1.3L yaris on one of the canary islands, it managed the small mountain roads easily with airco on. I can imagine it has problems going uphill on the highway though.
I hate the guy who does this review. First off I love my Yaris to death. If I didn't want to be seen in it why the hell would I buy it? And second the Fit isn't nearly as fun to drive around as a Yaris. its taller and heavier, making it ALMOST as nimble as a Yaris. Plus it can keep up with a Fit AND still get about 38 average on the pump.
yeah, i know! we have a 2-door liftback and it doesn't like hills (or merging onto highways). that's why i don't pass dutch buggies on hills or pull out in front of anyone...
This guy is a complete idiot. Sure the Yaris only has 106bhp, but it only weighs 2400lbs! Here in Austin you can go out to Lime Creek Road, I've SEEN a Yaris keep up with an 07 Mustang GT. Plus it STILL gets better mileage than a Nissan Versa or Honda Fit. I love my Yaris. End of story.
if the USA could get the turbo version, without question,i would own one. i'm thinking of a gti, mini cooper or 4runner (taking winter driving into consideration...)
@Ttran778 go suck it, a ford mustand GT can use this shit heap to wipe its ass, your living in dream land, 106 horse against over 550 103 lb/ft of torque against over 400, you people.... where do you pull this shit from
my old 1996 volvo t5 is faster.... dude this car is slow as fuck, top speed of 119 MPH ?!!? 0-60 in 8.3 seconds what is the POINT in me coming out to race you? when my car has 489 bhp and a 0-60 time of 4.4 seconds? you are just so far up your own ass about your little 1.5 hatch back you dont see what everyone else see's... another little slow ass FWD car for new drivers
@Ttran778 True. This guy seems to be a little off the mark with his review. I have a 1.5 YRS, which has a nice interior. I love the centre readout display, and i love the extra compartments you get by having this. Mine has the audio controls on the leather steering wheel, leather gear knob, the interior is very nice. And it goes really well. Not slow at all. AC on or off.
@Ttran778 my fit is averaging 29.4 now. thats only because we get alot of snow in pittsburgh, so i gotta give it more gas. normally its getting 31 average.
@MrRichierich1990 I'm averaging about 36 in texas at the moment, during the colder months (in TX?!) I got somewhere around 34. When it heats up, AC on, I measured right up to 38.

All these so cal green car are so ugly and under power and looks like a go cart...Toyota were never very good with designing cars that looks timeless....
It reminds me of the old Ford Aspire I used to have...I loved that car and I think I got like 38 miles to the gallon. I bought it brand new for 8000.00. That car was so durable it lasted for years before I traded it in for a Geo Prizm
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I love my Golf GTI...I think all these new "green" cars like Yaris copied the Golf orignal design which still looks timeless till this day....great on gas...with 180 horse power
I like the Yaris 2-door despite the reviewer's comments. It is NOT embarrassing to be seen in. My issues with the Yaris is that it could use a tad more power and a bit more content for the money given what Toyota is asking for it. Still, sub-compact cars are the rage with outrageous gasoline prices and I'm glad to see more of them on the road. It's about damn time; America's love affair with massive pick-up trucks & SUV's that weren't always needed was just plain ignorant.
i love being seen in it :) it's funny to see ppl in their suburbans, yukon denalis and pickup trucks just turn their heads and stare in amazement. I say, go ahead. stare. :) it's always fun parking beside one of those mammoth gas hogs and snapping a picture of it. what's even cooler is being the only yaris hatch in town ;)
Forgetable echo?...used Echo are selling now at 7-8K around 80,000 miles....ridiculous!!...Toyota are great cars. I was just never fond of the look of their cars...they need to fire all their Indstrial Designers!!
Toyotas are excellent cars i should know ive never had a spot of trouble with it in nine years! You carnt say this about many many cars that cost four times as much!

If you painted that ugly little fucker white, it'd look like an egg! I don't care how fuel-efficient they are; unless I was driving a Yaris in a demolition derby, I wouldn't be seen in one.
I've owned this car for little over a year, I LOVE IT!!
I too looked at the "Fit" before buying this one - but the YARIS is very open and roomy, sits higher, not a slow car, large windows, great gas milage, over-all easy handling too; it has everything, everywhere - I need.
FYI...I have a 5-speed, 2 DR. I'm 45 yrs old.
I'm REALLY GLAD I bought it - I made a wise choice!
I sincerely HATE this car. The speedo is on the passenger side of the car. I decided to slam the door as hard as possible to get that hollow tin can sound..pulled a back muscle!

@Rare92Mustang Indeed , I own one, it's a great car, it's is light and reliable and good for a first car, but keeping up with a mustang no way -_-

@Ttran778 my fit is averaging 29.4 now. thats only because we get alot of snow in pittsburgh, so i gotta give it more gas. normally its getting 31 average.
MrRichierich1990 11 months ago
@MrRichierich1990 I'm averaging about 36 in texas at the moment, during the colder months (in TX?!) I got somewhere around 34. When it heats up, AC on, I measured right up to 38.

I just bought one and I'm so happy I got it.
I'm never regret that I bought it instead of any other strong car. It worth all the pennies I give up for it.
It may not be strong and powerful but the "fun" make up for it.
TOYOTA FOREVER!

They stare and snicker because of it's size. Stare right back and snicker because of the money you saved at the pump! :-)

my dad has the yaris in 5-speed. so much fun to drive and it practically MAKES gas. this guy is a dick.

Ya, this review was useless and the reviewer sucked royally. Yaris is what it is; small, cute, reliable, efficient drive around town car.

There are so many better cars in this category than this.

I have the Echo, which is basically the same thing. The 5-speed is fun to drive, 3rd gear is where the meat is at!
