@SuckMyProtoss Yes, but not as common as Insulinoma and Adrenal Disease. How old are your ferrets and do you have a ferret knowledgeable vet? Most AREN'T. Do buy the book "Ferrets For Dummies" so you'll know the early signs of these diseases.

@GulfVetSAF Yup - search "mushroom mangler". He used to go into my grocery bags and steal the entire package and I'd find this trail of mushrooms through my townhome, down the stairs and the container in the closet LOL I'll put that vid on the facebook page.
He sounds almost like my Hershey (he's a silver) if the door to the closet is closed and he has his favorite rubber duck in his mouth, he'll run to the door, run a few feet back, and run to the door again, in a loop.... until someone opens the door.
Hi - May I ask where you got that ferret gate/what brand and model that is? We have a ferret and we are having a very hard time finding something like the one you guys have here in Canada. Thanks for your help.
@LadyHardcore I don't have that gate anymore. It was actually pretty crappy and broke in less than a year. It also was too wide. Notice the brown along the left edge? I had to glue molding to it. The gate I have now that works great and didn't have to be modified is the North States Clear Choice Gate XT (extra tall). Was very cheap and I've had it geez I think at least three years now.

Oh dear... My ferret has a bad habit of thinking about if he can jump from the arm of the chair, standing at about 3ft high, over the2-3ft gap and onto the tv stand which is 5ft tall. Safe to say if he ever does make the attempt at jumping it, the results will not be promising. Even so he's always in the poised-to-jump mode when he remembers it's there.

lol...our very first ferret, Ratchet, is a jumper! Poor thing has miscalculated a few times and ended up face-planting into some not so pleasant things, though!

i have 2 cobs.. 1 of em wakes up and is at the door of his enclosure..the other 1 takes a minute to slowly wake up (yawning and stretching like a teenager) the wide awake one likes being handled more and does not bite atall anymore, the other one will bite occasionally and is slightly timid and will jump like mad.( although the timidness has only been for the last couple of months) very different ferrets. but when i get the fresh steak out they are both savages!!
When he was younger my fuzzy could do a good leap from my shoulder onto the bed, about 3 feet easy. They're not great leapers but with something to give them some traction they do better.
What form that ferret has!!!!!!! Mine just went plunk and flat on her face. No jumping skills at all. She could climb the darndest things though. Sometimes, I thought she was half rat, the things she could get into.
@Ferretocious they have a horrible vertical. Great distance though. I had mine on one of my practice pads and they made it at least 4 feet to the couch. the surface of the pad is rubber and has good grip.
I'm sorry he's gone. This video made me laugh. My ferret fails at jumping all the time. One time he had a big win though and landed spread eagle in the middle of my dinner plate!

@Ferretocious I am so sorry. I've lost 3 of my babies, they seem so tough and resilient, but they are really quite fragile. Mine have had cancer, adrenal failure and a heart attack. Just breaks my heart. But I can't resist them, they are so wonderful to have around. You can't be sad around a ferret.

@Ferretocious hey stomach ulcers and cancer is a VERY common ferret killer. both of mine died of bleeding stomach ulcers, it can have something to do with their diet. ferrets rarely show signs of illness until its too late. mine lived to 5 yrs and the other lived a little past 6 might have actually been 7. vet said they rarely see them older than 5. or even at 5 for that matter. ferrets are WAY too good of a pet for such a short life span, also their intelligence is very surprising.
@GMCman82 When did I say they weren't? I've had ferrets for over 13 years and have lost them to Adrenal Disease, Lymphoma, Insulinoma and Cardiomyopathy. And it's NOT the diet. Mine eat the best foods on the market - grain free and 45-50% protein. It's the fact that about 90% of the States all come from Marshalls so they're VERY genetically weak because they're so inbred. And FYI - Puck passed away this past Sep from Lymphoma.
@Ferretocious thought cat food caused mine to have ulcers, thats also what the vet said. only bad thing about ferrets is they get as many diseases as humans and are considered exotic so most vet offices wont mess with them. made me mad that as common a pet these are mose vets wont even look at them. makes me want to become a vet and specialize in exotics because i know how frustrating it can be to find a vet that is, and when i do it is really damn far away.now i keep fish they die i flush lol
@GMCman82 What cat food were you feeding? The better onces on the market - Innova Evo, Petcurean, Blue Buffalo Wilderness - that are grain free and at least 45% protein are better for them than the ferret foods that are on the market. And there ARE ferret vets out there - you just have to have them. Are you saying your ferret never saw a vet because the one you went to wasn't knowledgeable about them? I have a VERY knowledgeable vet. Expensive - but very good. I spent over $3K last year.
@Ferretocious whatever i could find that wasnt cheap. i dont skimp on what i give my pets, i think it already had that problem to begin with, it just all of a sudden took a turn for the worst, showed no signs of being sick, then bam. the vet gave my something to coat the stomach and it gained all of its weight back and as soon as i ran out, its weight dropped again almost immediately and then it was dead. took less than a week. died as soon as the weight drop, it didnt go around like that.
@GMCman82 Yeah ferrets are pretty fragile. I nearly lost my two eldest after Puck, Roxy and Sassy all passed away within a couple weeks of eachother (Puck from Lymphoma suddenly, Roxy after a year and a half of being treating and Insulinoma, and Sassy after six months treatment for Adrenal. Puck and Pan just stopped eating and wanted to sleep all the time. It was getting the two young girls - Bitzy and Mitzy - that gave them the will to go on.
@Ferretocious it seems they can die of being lonely or "heartbroken" if their friends they live with die. kinda llike they go into a depression. they actually have quite a remarkable personality, no two are alike, thats for sure.
@DeutscheHeldensage Puck is a VERY determined ferret. And VERY naughty. You have to clear the coffee table of wine glasses, beer bottles, cups when they're out cuz he makes a bee-line to the table once I open the cage door. Once he knocked a can of rootbeer to the rug - then proceded to push it around till the entire can was EMPTIED. He's one bad, bad boy LOL
I love how the ferrets like, "Alright, gonna do it. Is the camera on? Good. High Youtube Imma jump over the fence! Ok, one, Two, THREE! OOF! Darnnit how high can this fence be! Hmmf! *walks away and curls up* *gets picks up* Again?? NO! Damn I can't get out. I WILL!"
@TheDarkplace Absolutely! I had chicken pox years ago and one of the ferrets was obsessed with the tube of anti-itch cream. I'd put it up top of my computer hutch and he'd sit there on the bed - looking at where it was and then side to side plotting how to get there. Finally figured out it was: climb onto guitar amp, climb from amp to dresser, climb on top jewelry box, climb from there to window sill, walk across window sill, come through curtains on other end - top of computer hutch!
i have 3 ferrets and your ferrets is just sliping out with its back legs if you had somesort of pad that the claws would just grip it could jump much farther, your table its to hard and plasticy for a far jump. when your chair was ther it had something to push off. mine can jump at least double their body length and up a bit. lots of fun to watch.
@Ferretocious thats not quite what i mean i have a gate like yours...well not reely its wooden, but my ferrets cant get over that but its a great trick to see them jumping large gaps on command

Wow, I was expecting it to at least crash into the fence or land on it and not quite clear it, but that was completely pathetic. I didn't imagine there would be such an unfathomably large difference between cats and ferrets.
@NinjaBieber Most I've had is seven. Not sure I'll ever get anymore after these guys are gone. They're just too heartbreaking. My two eldest - Roxy and Sassy - both have cancer and need regular meds. Probably will only have them around for another six months or so :(

If they have enough grip on the surface they are jumping from they will go very far. both mine can clear a 4 foot gap with ease.

@Ferretocious I am so sorry. I've lost 3 of my babies, they seem so tough and resilient, but they are really quite fragile. Mine have had cancer, adrenal failure and a heart attack. Just breaks my heart. But I can't resist them, they are so wonderful to have around. You can't be sad around a ferret.

@Ferretocious hey stomach ulcers and cancer is a VERY common ferret killer. both of mine died of bleeding stomach ulcers, it can have something to do with their diet. ferrets rarely show signs of illness until its too late. mine lived to 5 yrs and the other lived a little past 6 might have actually been 7. vet said they rarely see them older than 5. or even at 5 for that matter. ferrets are WAY too good of a pet for such a short life span, also their intelligence is very surprising.

@GMCman82 When did I say they weren't? I've had ferrets for over 13 years and have lost them to Adrenal Disease, Lymphoma, Insulinoma and Cardiomyopathy. And it's NOT the diet. Mine eat the best foods on the market - grain free and 45-50% protein. It's the fact that about 90% of the States all come from Marshalls so they're VERY genetically weak because they're so inbred. And FYI - Puck passed away this past Sep from Lymphoma.

@Ferretocious thought cat food caused mine to have ulcers, thats also what the vet said. only bad thing about ferrets is they get as many diseases as humans and are considered exotic so most vet offices wont mess with them. made me mad that as common a pet these are mose vets wont even look at them. makes me want to become a vet and specialize in exotics because i know how frustrating it can be to find a vet that is, and when i do it is really damn far away.now i keep fish they die i flush lol

@GMCman82 What cat food were you feeding? The better onces on the market - Innova Evo, Petcurean, Blue Buffalo Wilderness - that are grain free and at least 45% protein are better for them than the ferret foods that are on the market. And there ARE ferret vets out there - you just have to have them. Are you saying your ferret never saw a vet because the one you went to wasn't knowledgeable about them? I have a VERY knowledgeable vet. Expensive - but very good. I spent over $3K last year.

@Ferretocious whatever i could find that wasnt cheap. i dont skimp on what i give my pets, i think it already had that problem to begin with, it just all of a sudden took a turn for the worst, showed no signs of being sick, then bam. the vet gave my something to coat the stomach and it gained all of its weight back and as soon as i ran out, its weight dropped again almost immediately and then it was dead. took less than a week. died as soon as the weight drop, it didnt go around like that.

@GMCman82 Yeah ferrets are pretty fragile. I nearly lost my two eldest after Puck, Roxy and Sassy all passed away within a couple weeks of eachother (Puck from Lymphoma suddenly, Roxy after a year and a half of being treating and Insulinoma, and Sassy after six months treatment for Adrenal. Puck and Pan just stopped eating and wanted to sleep all the time. It was getting the two young girls - Bitzy and Mitzy - that gave them the will to go on.

@Ferretocious it seems they can die of being lonely or "heartbroken" if their friends they live with die. kinda llike they go into a depression. they actually have quite a remarkable personality, no two are alike, thats for sure.

@DeutscheHeldensage Puck is a VERY determined ferret. And VERY naughty. You have to clear the coffee table of wine glasses, beer bottles, cups when they're out cuz he makes a bee-line to the table once I open the cage door. Once he knocked a can of rootbeer to the rug - then proceded to push it around till the entire can was EMPTIED. He's one bad, bad boy LOL

@TheDarkplace Absolutely! I had chicken pox years ago and one of the ferrets was obsessed with the tube of anti-itch cream. I'd put it up top of my computer hutch and he'd sit there on the bed - looking at where it was and then side to side plotting how to get there. Finally figured out it was: climb onto guitar amp, climb from amp to dresser, climb on top jewelry box, climb from there to window sill, walk across window sill, come through curtains on other end - top of computer hutch!

i have 3 ferrets and your ferrets is just sliping out with its back legs if you had somesort of pad that the claws would just grip it could jump much farther, your table its to hard and plasticy for a far jump. when your chair was ther it had something to push off. mine can jump at least double their body length and up a bit. lots of fun to watch.

@NinjaBieber Most I've had is seven. Not sure I'll ever get anymore after these guys are gone. They're just too heartbreaking. My two eldest - Roxy and Sassy - both have cancer and need regular meds. Probably will only have them around for another six months or so :(
